They say there is a Black grandmother in the closet in every Mexican family. Some places like Veracruz and Michoacán had many Afro-Mexicans who married into indigenous communities and blended our beautiful cultures.
Most of us Mexicans have up to a certain degree of African blood. Some share a few African features depending on the location, but others only share their DNA like people from Jalisco, Michoacan, Guanajuato. The Spanish stopped importing slaves since the 1640's and those slaves mostly earned and paid their freedom or married a freed women and their children were borned into freedom, that's how the majority became free, by the time of independence, very few slaves were left and whatever was left most were mulattos, that's why we don't see full Afros in Mexico, unless there recent arrivals. Many slaves in American/British colonies saw New Spain and Mexico as the promised land.

@@alfonsom8286 no. I was referring to the last comment the creator of the video made at about 20:20. that the US should give citizenship to those descendants of slaves that left US to go to Mx.
So , all the Mexicans born in USA , are also Mexican citizens?
@@mommasotoyes, even the spanish and Portuguese government started a program in which you could apply for citizenship if you had jewish ancestors expelled from the peninsula in the 1500s
And curiosly enough they settled in the neighboring state of Nuevo Leon
Thank you for this very valuable lesson. A lesson non of us were taught in USA schools. I just learned about this and I'm in my 60's! God bless Mexico and it's people!
What, Harriet underground railroad, some stayed in Mexico and became black Mexicans, and others kept migrating south. Belize Jamaica.
Thank you for showing us this my man! 😀👍🏾
I live in Tijuana and let's say something like 5 yrs México has become populated with black people we are not a racist country welcome my black brothers and sisters.
Loved your video man. My mom is from Juchitan Guerrero and i myslef lived there for a few years. I identify it as my home.
Wow, I visited Huehuetán which is close to Juchitan. I did a video on the museum there.
I made good friends in costa chica
@HirsiTV yes they're rival towns. They once fought over land which juchitan won claimed as juchitan. Can't wait to watch that video as well.
I’m Afro Mexican 🤙🏾
Wonderful Segment ❤
Viva la raza! I'm a descendant of Creole people who moved to Mexico to start again after the black codes were introduced in Louisiana. Eventually they came back to the States and I will always have a love for Mexico and it's people.
Despite being mexican myself, I find these sort of videos made by foreigners to be so helpful in finding out more about the people in my country and learning just how diverse we are. I'm from Veracruz and we have lots of black people here, with myself being a descendant, so seeing black people has been the norm for me all my life. However, I've always thought multi-generational afro mexican families could only be found here in the south, never would I have imagined there'd be afro mexicans up there in the north. John Horse's history sounds very interesting as well, and I hope they'd teach us more about this side of history that's been ignored, just like we are taught about Gaspar Yanga in my state.
My father was a dark skinned Sicilian immigrant came to America Alabama 1960 endured segregation they thought he was blk and Mexican guess due to my fathers purple lips he said they made a big deal of he said a lot of Estupido in the 1960’s in the south segregation became a sky soldier combat medic survived 4 years Vietnam god bless 🤟🏽
Mexico fought against colonizers and we lost many wars against Spain, France, and the USA. So we have a great sense of patriotism, we are Mexicans before ALL, even over our parents ancestry. Our parents ancestry is what makes being Mexican great, Mexico is diverse and proud of it.
They say there is a Black grandmother in the closet in every Mexican family. Some places like Veracruz and Michoacán had many Afro-Mexicans who married into indigenous communities and blended our beautiful cultures.
I wouldn’t be surprised, Juan saw that beautiful black skin and had to get him a piece. 😂
Always cool video, thanks bro.
Thank you so much
Well I’m from Guatemala but my grandfather was from Guerrero when I did my DNA I have African blood
Yes, most of us Mexicans have certain amounts of African DNA, most importations of African slaves ended around early-mid 1600's. Today we share there DNA but phenotypically only a few traits.

SO MUCH UNTOLD HISTORY
Not untold here... We all know about this community and others
Thank you so much for this video🤙🏽🤙🏽
See how they never mentioned discrimination or racism. They face the same challenges as everyone else, economic and other common things as everybody.
Same thing in Honduras black people sing about getting free in Honduras n their culture, so much up today they speak their own languague.
I doubt that very seriously
@@CharlesHorne-vr7uv In Mexico classism is much more prevalent than racism. Mexicans respect money, power, strength. The weak and poor gets discriminated.
@@jgonzalez1992 That is very true, interracial mixing has been legal since the Spanish Empire in 1514. That's why most of our families have very mixed skinned tones and features... Classism is something that has been in all societies in the world, even here in Mexico before the arrival of the Spanish, there was classism between the indigenous noble class and the commoners. Something that the Indigenous peoples and Spaniards could relate.

Thank you so much for the comment. I was surprised myself that a community like this lives in Mexico. Another surprising group is the kickapoo. Google them
In Mexico we're all Mexican. We're all mixed so it doesn't matter if you're white, brown or black.
I have visited all 31 Mexican states. From hamlets to Mexico City. Mexico does have a white, mestizo, indigenous and black divide.
When I was visiting people call me negro o Moreno. I didn’t take offense to it. Because I know it’s normal.
@@HirsiTV that's just a nickname, for example I am fat and my friends call me gordo, that's how it is in Mexico, people takes something characteristic from your looks and use it as nickname but never with the intention of offending or dividing anyone, is more like a sign of "we are friends".
Very interesting. Thank you for sharing.

I tried to contact them about this years ago. Maybe now
Gracias hermano, muy buen video.

Thanks for bringing this. There is not a lot of coverage here in Mexico about the comunities and all the citizens tha conform the country. Nowadays they are starting to do it on the schools and in homes which is good, yet, there ir more to do.
