    Grandma has such a good memory.. I can barely tell you I did yesterday at 50 years old😋...but she's absolutely right with the drop of whiskey on the gums of a teething baby..my grandmother did it to my grown kids when they were babies and it calmed them down from crying & soothed their gums.

    • @guccideltaco
      @guccideltaco 6 років тому +5

      I remember as a small kid, I had a bad toothache, and my grandpa poured a spoonful of whiskey & put sugar in it and gave it to me. Of course, I do like a Jack & Coke every now and again to this day. ;-)

      Mz. Phatbaldkat there was a medicine when my kids were babies called Paragoric. It calmed the babies down,perhaps I believe contained a touch of alcohol or a sedative. I don't think they make it anymore but it was a miracle drug if you had a colicky baby! I'm talking many,many years ago!

    • @alicedevens2896
      @alicedevens2896 6 років тому

      My.mama did too..whiskey is great for teething..does anyone remember paragoric ? Spelling not sure, my grandma used that..wow. then there was turpin hydrate with codeine for bad coughs..gosh all them old drugs....aspirins better, just look at gramma..

    My great grandma was a very strong Italian woman. She would cook everyday. I used to watch her make sausage and she used to make the spinach loafs with homemade French bread which was so delicious. I remember them making spaghetti and meatballs for a restaurant. They would deliver the sauce through the back door LOL she is to own her own restaurant when she was young. Boy do I miss those Italian women. Strongest women I know😘

    When Gramma tells about the old days, I just love it.
    All these years later, she remembers how her mother-in-law treated her. We remember people who are good to us, but also the ones who aren't.
    I'm watching from Texas, and I'd love some more stories.
    May God continue to bless your family. Gramma has a good memory for details, doesn't she?

    My great grandma was born in 1902 and she had a diary, when alcohol became illegal she would rent her car to the bootleggers so they could transport the alcohol. They would send her information of where to pick her car up and they would pay her. I remember her killing chickens in the backyard one time when I was 7. I was shocked and turned around and went back in the house. That's what they did back then just like Grandma❤

    My grandma was born in October 1914 so she was a few months younger than grandma, but she also had the greatest stories. Her favorite was her parents wouldn’t let her cut her hair or wear short skirts. So the night before she got married she spend all night cutting her dresses short and had her hair bobbed. Her parents were furious! Unfortunately my grandma passed away in 2005 at 91. I love listening to grandma and Ginga.

    It always makes me so happy to see how sharp her mind is. Even though it's not my family, I love listening to the stories. I think that is a family tradition that we have lost today. Where all the young sit around listening to the stories from the older generation. If you were to ask a millennial today what their family Roots were or where they came from, the farthest back they could go is probably their home address when they were kids. Really sad. Keep these stories coming, they enrich us. I love you guys so much!
