Part of me really hopes we learn more about the mud in part 2, but part of me also loves how unknown it is. Though I am curious if its (indirectly) connected to the golden opportunists.

I think they might be connected, for example, Tony Dove (the soldier you find right after Rando joins you) can turn into either a Mudman or a Golden Opportunist based on what you do during the fight

@@PequenoVividor It's a bit of a matter of the adoptation of a certain mindset I think. The mudmen seem to have embraced their own wrongdoings and adopted a state of nihilism, believing their mistakes can never be rectified and they will always be terrible at their core. The golden opportunists lack dialogue but seem to be more sexual and bloodthirsty in their nature. Each one we meet has gone fully nude and is covered in blood (usually their arms). While with the mudmen there seems to be some "choice" to it, I wonder if the golden opportunists embrace a depraved part deep inside them, or are influenced to become like this by some unseen entitity (lots of paralels with the different depictions of the infinity franchise.)

@@bread8036 During my first playthrough i didn't pay much attention to the mudmen since the things they said disgusted me greatly so i tried to run pass thru em as quickly as possible, now, after my second playthrough, i see that the mud almost seems to be like some sort of "divine" punishment, since one of the judges (Akira) starts getting buried in mud once he breaks down, or the Rando soldier that gives you free cigars also appears covered in mud once the night sets in; We can see some puddles of it across the different areas of the game, and the most interesting thing is that it's always of this sickening green color regardless of the terrain. Those puddles may either mean there's people who have fully sinked below... or they managed to "get out" of it... perhaps that's how the Golden Opportunists are created? Like, they have fully embraced the kind of scum they are, they don't care about seeking redemption, so they get out from the mud as completely soulles beings, no more remorse or care for self preservation anymore, they just want blood or getting a taste of that pristine meat.. it would explain how they melt away when killed, they simply sink back into the earth, no trace of the body, a proper grave for someone that can't even be cosidered a shadow of who they were before... eyes are the window to the soul, and theirs are completely white
Conected to the mud or not, the Golden Opportunists seem to be victims of some sort of abnormal force as well, a few of them seemed like decent people, like Katz who only wanted to be in peace along his pets, he somehow turns into a G.O and is even capable of eating his own beloved cats just to be able to kill you, or Tony Dove who just wanted to leave the island along his brother and didn't even believed the girl existed, Gasper Joe (one of the guys in the undersea bubble) also turns into a G.O if you tell his leader that the statue they worship isn't special at all.
I find interesting how seemingly normal guys are suddenly converted into G.O, yet a massive freak like Bolo who prides himself in being a pervert is somehow still himself (An absolutely disgusting being, but still rational and is able to comunicate, not in a "zombie" like status as the G.Os), i mean, the dude literaly calls himself a "Golden Opportunist"
Sorry for the longass comment, i love Undone so much

@@bread8036 What bugs me out the most about the G.Os is how some of them seemed like somewhat decent people before suddenly turning into... those, yet a depraved b@stard like Bolo is still "normal", he's still a pervert but he still has his personality, honestly that's what makes me believe the whole "Golden Oportunists" thing is caused by some sort of entity or extranormal force... Hell even Mr Fantastic would be a perfect candidate to turn into one yet he doesn't...
About the mud... something interesting about it is how we can see many puddles of it around everywhere in the game, it has this greenish color that doesn't even fit the palette of the ground you find it on, not to mention how this mud seems to suddenly emerge whenever it finds someone that caught its interest (Papa Chuff, the randoboy that gives you free cigars suddenly turns into a mudman at night, and one of the judges, Akira, starts getting surrounded by it once he breaks down during the battle), it's almost like some sort of "divine" punishment/intervention: if you're a sinner and don't jump into the mud willingly, then it will come for you instead...
Another thing is how we can see various puddles of mud in places where it doesn't belong, it always has this greenish-rotten color regardless of what the ground looks like, i wonder if those empty puddles contain people that have already sank below... or they're there like that because whoever was inside managed to break free... we see how some of the Mudmen seem to take pride on the bad things they did, or how they try to minimize it by convincing themselves that they were in the right... who knows... thinking about the connection between the mud and the G.Os, perhaps once they have fully sank into it, the mud takes with it whatever was left of their humanity, and lets out the empty carcass into the wild, it no longer feels any remorse (maybe it never did) and does whatever it pleases, some say that the eyes are windows to the soul, and the G.Os have no pupils, they don't even get to keep their names after they turn, implying that even joy mutants are still more human than them haha, also it would explain why they all appear out of nowhere and already covered in blood (perhaps rather self harm or damage received during the process, all the G.Os are pitifully weak and prefer getting touchy than properly fighting)... also, once they are killed they simply melt into the ground, like if the mud was calling them to come back, they join the scum of earth, is what they are...
Sorry for the rambling about my cringy theory but i love this game so much, and sorry for the late reply but youtube decided it would be really funny to delete my comment instantly as i posted it

@@PequenoVividor Chuff turning into a mudman isn’t that sudden, he’s already covered in mud when you first see him.
Another instance of the mud seemingly coming for people is the Seeing One, the red masked person Rando can talk to at the beginning of the Crossroads. Mud like that is very out of place somewhere dry like the Crossroads.
