Western media should not look at China with "caring eyes". The Chinese people are living well now, and Western media should pay more attention to your own social issues!

China hasn't learned from the Soviet Union. There are a lot of reasons for its collapse, but ultimately it was the unassuming Baltic states that made it inevitable. Nobody would have assumed that tiny Lithuania would bring about the end of the USSR. Lithuania's bold push for independence inspired people all across the Baltics and the greater USSR to abandon socialism.
Why did the Baltic states rise up more defiantly than the other SSR's? The Baltics had their own identity and they were forcibly absorbed against the wishes of the populous. Long after the Soviets and the world assumed that had been forgotten, it became clear that it hadn't. China's attempt to absorb Hong Kong by force could yield the same outcome. Wouldn't it be ironic if, after all their studying of the collapse of the USSR, they were ultimately felled by the same circumstances.
