Thanks for watching! Details and companies for booking a rental car on Maui, plus other Maui transport options: are in the description! thehawaiivacationguide.com/rental-car/
been to Maui 4 times and never considered anything other then airport rentals cause I assumed they would all be basically the same, will definitely look at other options on my next visit, thank you and keep up the great work/videos
We never gave it a thought about using the local car rental folks. Great idea. When we rent at the airport we usually just walk to the rental facility because it’s a short walk instead of waiting on the sometimes crowded tram.
A cautionary tale though - we are on Maui right now. We chose to rent from a local company several months out. The day before landing on Maui, got an email saying they had an unexpectedly high number of their cars suddenly needing repair and would not have a car for us. Turo had only 3 cars left at that point for our dates, other local companies were out of inventory, even some national search platforms were showing nothing available. We ended up using Priceline and getting "mystery cars" in order to save some money, but instead of a $600 minivan for the week, we had two $800 sedans. Had we rented from the big companies to begin with, it would have saved us at least $800.
I haven’t been to the big island or Oahu but I feel that I like Maui is the best. Not as rural as Kauai and plenty of amenities to make life convenient.I haven’t been back since the fire
When local-owned companies say they have older vehicles in their fleet, please believe them. We first booked with a smaller, local company on Maui not understanding how much wear and tear an older rental vehicle would have. We didn't even make it to our vrbo in Maalaea before deciding to return the car and rent a newer vehicle from a national chain. Given how much driving around the island we planned to do, unfortunately, the option provided by the local company just was not going to work. The extra expense was worth the additional comfort we had while traveling the island, whether it was driving the Road to Hana, going up to the Nakalele Blowhole, or cruising down to Big Beach in South Maui.
We have had poor experiences with local rental car companies too in the past. Hence, we recommend who we recommend. Thanks for sharing your experience!
WE ARE RENTING EBIKES! I DON'T DRIVE AND NEITHER DOES MY DAUGHTER. 880 FOR 2 BIKES FOR 10 DAYS. WE GOT SOME ADD ONS WHICH ADDED TO THE PRICE. STILL CHEAPER THAN A CAR!

I've been to Maui twice and rented from Kihei Rent A Car both times. I plan to rent from them again on my third trip to Maui in October 2025.
They have great cars for a local option. Thanks for sharing your experience!!
Greatest video. On what to rent. Very educational.
