This guy is the real deal and does impecable work. A true artesanal master craftsman! His equipment is old school and of the best quality. I am envious!!!!
I have been bending leather for about six years and been working hard to make my stitching as perfect as I can get it. This belt is very understated but resembles an artisan working very hard to provide his customer with the best. Well done.
It's easy to tell from watching from his sure, even, measured movements as well from his well-worn tools and hands that this is handcraft practiced over a lifetime. I would have no difficulty believing that everything that he has made is still in use. Thanks.
excellent 1st. class work, I've started making belts about 6 months ago and still learning the tricks of the process, of course you made it look easy but I assure people it's more to it than it seems, thanx for the video
The belt looks great , how ever a little thick for a say dress belt? This is not a criticism of your blet but in general of belts hand made is this just me or are suit belts a little thinner? How would make something a littgle more subtle if wearing expeansive suit?
Hi Harry, just awaiting my veg tan red leather belt blank but I cant find a saddlers oval punch. I think its 3mm for the buckle tongue. I assume its the same size as the round punch, and the same size as the buckle tongue. I intend to lightly dye the edge and burnish, hope this works as I don't want to buy a whole bottle of Edgecote!
Where did you get that strap cutter? I like that. I bought a whole new set of Osborne strap end punches thinking it would make things easier & faster. I have just gone back to cutting the straps like you are. These punches were not made straight & never cut straight. Wasted money in my book. Sometimes the old way is best. Great job on your videos.
Great work! Thanks for the video! Could you please crarify - why do you need to stich the whole belt, if the belt is only one layer? Or maybe I missed something.
It's an antique plough gauge (plow gauge in american) from the french toolmakers Vergez Blanchard, one of my most prized possesions. They still make them.
Truly a treat, thanks for the video. I'm curious I have a leather belt that's stiched like yours with two pieces of leather, how would one go about shortening it without causing the stitching to come undone?
Hi, very well done. I have a question for you. I am trying to stitch a belt that I made, but I don’t know how to fiddle with the thread. My belt is 1,20 m long, that’s 2,40 around and since the leather is rather thick I have cut 9,60 m of thread. Then I don’t know how to manage such a length on the pony !!! I get knots all over ! How do you manage that in order to saddle stitch one only thread all around your belt ?
Hi there. Good question but 9.6 meters of thread is way too long to try and use. I never try to do an entire belt with one piece of thread, it's too unmanageable. I usually use a piece about the length of my two outstretched arms which is about 2 m. As I run out of thread I simply splice it. Here's a good video showing how to splice. ua-cam.com/video/Q2lDExF5NbE/v-deo.html Also if you're going to do a lot of stitching I recommend you buy the book "The Art of Hand Sewing Leather" by Al Stohlman.
Lovely work. I noticed that the stitching often is passing through only one thickness of leather. Is the stitching largely decorative at that point, or does it stabilize the edge to prevent stretching over the long term?
The closeups of you, showing how you manipulate the needles is helpful. I'm a book learned leather crafter, you miss some stuff learning that way. I too like your belt cutter, well thought out putting the handle behind the blade, rather than behind the fence.
Any one of you that think what he just did is easy!! It's not. I hand stich my gun belts and holsters. I can't afford a stitching machine (2,000--3,000 $) Your hands and arms get tired real fast. When you have a 50 inch belt stitching it requires 100 inch's of sewing. This is a great video... Thanks'. Crossdrawjohn. Arizona.
Hi- thanks for the video. I am not english and would liketo get the names of the tools used in the process. If you can provide the price of kits including glue I would be grateful. well done
Hi there, I'm a big fan of your amazing work, so please don't take this the wrong way, but it looks to me like you haven't actually lined this belt, it just looks like the stitching all the way along was purely for aesthetics...Am I right ? With an unlined belt I personally don't see the point in stitching all the way along....Thanks for your vids. Best wishes.
This Vedeo is great, will be very little for the Vietnamese. I would like to download this vedeo for Vietnamese people in the country. I will put the link and source notes from your page. Thank you
The problem with your video is I know you didn't have enough thread to complete the belt. What happens when you run out of thread. How do you end and start again?
Back stitching a few stitches is certainly good if you want to maximize strength, however in a straight run like the length of a normal belt the two back stitches stick out (visually) like a sore thumb, and with a belt like this, the strength is not such an important consideration. That's why I suggested the above video where the gentleman shows how to do a hidden splice. There are other ways to do a hidden splice which I may show on some future videos. Thanks for your comment.

This clip made me want to head back into the workshop! Thanks for posting this up mate.
As a belt maker it is fantastic to see a craftsman making a belt not a piece of leather with a buckle stuck on one end thank you
excellent 1st. class work, I've started making belts about 6 months ago and still learning the tricks of the process, of course you made it look easy but I assure people it's more to it than it seems, thanx for the video
I read the heading and was waiting for the belt to be stitched on a machine, truly is hand stitched!
Agar, I never get tired of watching your videos. Great craftsmanship. Looking forward to more videos.

Great work! Thanks for the video! Could you please crarify - why do you need to stich the whole belt, if the belt is only one layer? Or maybe I missed something.
Well done. Love the wall of tool holsters at 1:29, too.
Nice work. I like good blts and especially when a good, unusual buckle is used.
Beautiful work. What size oval punch do you use?
How many hours of stitching?
As always beautiful work. I am wondering how far in from the edge your stitching line is.... It seems exactly right!
Excllent work. What is the name of this fantasic belt cutter, who is the maker?
It's an antique plough gauge (plow gauge in american) from the french toolmakers Vergez Blanchard, one of my most prized possesions. They still make them.

Excellent Craftsmanship! Cheers!
What size needle do you use?
What size oval punch do you use for the billet holes?
Simply one word : Mind blowing artist at work
It doesn't look like you stitched that entire belt with one thread. Can you please explain to me your method?
Hi, very well done. I have a question for you. I am trying to stitch a belt that I made, but I don’t know how to fiddle with the thread. What is the thread that you used?
From where we can buy this belt on line..?
Lovely work. I noticed that the stitching often is passing through only one thickness of leather. Is the stitching largely decorative at that point, or does it stabilize the edge to prevent stretching over the long term?
It might help with stretching a bit but mostly I used it because I liked the decorative effect.
Thanks so much for explaining about why you used this style of stitching! It's a hard subject to search for online.
Brilliant. How much for that belt !
Hard! How long did it take you to sew?
Very very goog ı like it 👍👍👍👍👍👍

The problem with your video is I know you didn't have enough thread to complete the belt. What happens when you run out of thread. How do you end and start again?
+Larry Eyster There's a good video on stitching and splicing thread by another leatherworker at
ua-cam.com/video/Q2lDExF5NbE/v-deo.html
In short? You back stitch two stitched and start again. That is how Al Stolman did it in his books.
Back stitching a few stitches is certainly good if you want to maximize strength, however in a straight run like the length of a normal belt the two back stitches stick out (visually) like a sore thumb, and with a belt like this, the strength is not such an important consideration.
