Danny Elfman has always been underrated as a lyricist and as a recording artist. He still has so much to share with us and I'm grateful he has.
I was in Century City and we were doing this Midnight Student Film Festival, back in early 70's, and this strange group, The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo was playing when we got there. I peeked in and watched the show in amazement. Saw this red headed kid and asked him if he was the leader of the group (around 12 people, men and women) and he said his name was Danny Elfman. I asked him if he also wrote and arranged the music, and again, he said yes. I then told him he was going to go very far as it was some of the most original stuff I had heard in a very long time. Mind you, this was the 70's, and new and creative music was coming out every day, but Danny's music was on another level. Happy to see he never stopped pushing the edge of the envelope.
RIP Greatest Horn section in rock n' roll.

I admittedly miss the horn section, but this is a terrific update to one of the best Boingo songs! Love the energy, new lyrics, and this music video is DOPEEEEEE
I was saying the same thing. It made me go back and have a listen to the '95 Farewell version & album version both again. But this version more than makes up for it with the new lines in the latter half of the song. Can't wait for more Danny :eyes:
He could have at least added a guitar version of the horn section?

@@ryanlargent9320 That's exactly what i was thinking. Adding them just in the second section even would've been a menacing but punctuated next-levelling of cacophony/frenzy... He must've had some reason he thought it was just 'too much'? (But I could've happily accepted the up-notch with joy) :)
Me too. I wondered what I would have thought of this version had I not known the original so well. I would still love it, but the horns on the original send it into the stratosphere. I kept on waiting for a hint of that melody from another instrument.

Danny’s notes mention that they started by recording new arrangements of Oingo Boingo songs for the Coachella show and wound up recording two albums of material - sounds like this is the tip of the iceberg
While my Boingo infatuation was satisfied by this, the original is far superior. The horn section makes the whole song. But this gave me nostalgic chills for sure 🤘🏼

How to even begin, this existing after all these years is phenomenal!! I remember listening to this song when I lived in Mumbai as a teenager not getting any sleep cos of the mosquitoes. I think I had a nightmare something like this a few times..

Great song for the album closer, Elfman's past is still in him but he's at the height of his powers and putting an abrasive spin on things. Really hope this album isn't a one off but even if it is these tracks are something special.
PLEASE release the new rendition of 'Running On A Treadmill' as a bonus track for the album. It's a beautiful rework.

I loved the 2020 version of Running on a Treadmill, but it was so mellow compared to all these new songs. Perhaps they felt it wouldn't fit the album? But I agree, an official bonus track would be ideal.

Someone PLEASE tell me he's writing the guitar riffs too. Almost all of his new songs go from crunchy chaotic primal licks straight to tasteful angel jazz. The contrast makes them so perfect

Nothing To Fear is perhaps my favorite all-around Boingo album, so I love to see Danny reworking songs from there. (Islands, Grey Matter, Why’d We Come, and Reptiles & Samurai would be awesome to revisit) I also hope that he decides to further explore this side of himself-probably his darkest material to date.
Danny redoing his Oingo Boingo song is a great idea, I will always love the original so much, and it's nice to see a music video for this new verison of the song!
I loved Oingo Boingo’s version of this song, and Elfman being the genius he is modified it and it became this lovely monstrosity that I can’t stop listening to!

All of these videos have been so timely. He released "Sorry" around the time of the Capitol riot. "Love in the Time of Covid" around Valentine's day. "Kick Me" around the time of Prince Phillip's death. "True" was released around the time of... were there statues being torn down or something during the month of April? And "Insects" the month of the Brood X cicadas.

When I first heard this song as a kid, I thought that was crazy enough and nothing could make it better. This just proves that with some added intense beats and a truly WTF level video, amazingly weird things can be improved to become something truly and awesomely insane.

I've got the original on vinyl. This updated version fits the craziness of this decade, but I miss the crisp clarity of the original, especially the horn section.
