Been doing this way before the float and fly was a thing as a fly fisher.. Just throwing balance leeches/minnows under bobbers Nymphing with an indicator on rivers is one of the best tactics for late summer smallies munching nocturnal stones... nothing new but a great tactic

I'm ready to fish with you! Well, maybe after it stops raining. And that Float-n-Fly works great in Idaho for smallies

What weight / length rod do you like best for for float-n-fly?

Looks like a clouser minnow. Easy to tie.

It’s just a basic minnow pattern I tie. No instructions or anything for it anywhere. But you can really get creative with the f&f. Almost anything is going to work if it’s the right weight and is fished right. I use 1/32oz jig head flies. You can even just tie a wholly bugger on a jig hook. Basic dark leeches are a go to.
