Couldn't agree more! For me, Anki is the best way to study and more importantly, retain everything I learn. Thanks @sz-rva

Shay Sharon, sir, I wanted to ask you how to make an Anki Card on a typical U-World question, the questions are lengthy, and the explanations comprehensive; my question is, would there be no point if I just start Screen shooting the question and the explanation in my Anki Deck. It would be really nice if you could make a video about it. Sir, You can use Chat GPT to make an AI-generated question with a comprehensive explanation and use that to show us how to make high-quality / yield cards.

That's an excellent idea! It's definitely on my UA-cam video to-do list.
In the meantime, let me give you an overview of how I prepared Anki cards from UWorld:
I copy-pasted the relevant information from the UWorld explanation into my own Anki Cards. I usually included around 30-60% of the text and used several clozes per each card.
I provide more details in this USMLE Q&A video I prepared: ua-cam.com/video/JeROC-2ePCk/v-deo.html
      Good luck!

Thank you .Can you tell a bit more how you take information from Uworld to Anki as Uworld is a vast resource.Do you make Anki card for every education objectives, image and table ? How many Anki card you create for step1& 2ck? As Uworld ban screenshot ,we need more tips from you in a. more detail manner how much information we will took from Uworld to Anki,do you take any extra note of Uworld besides Anki,do you use Uworld notebook feature?

      Hi!
I prepared a separate flashcard for each fact I didn't know. It was usually around 1-3 flashcards for each question I got wrong.
I prepared around 1800 cards for step 1, and around 2000 for step 2.
I took all the information that I wanted to study into Anki. That was my only tool for studying.
I tried UWorld's notebook and flashcard features but didn't like them and found them time-consuming and unreliable.
      Good luck!
      Shay

I use an I phone and Mac book so anki isn’t free . Can I use uworld flash cards. To make my own ?

I think you can use the Mac app on your MacBook for free. As for the iPhone - I see it as an investment. I continued to use Anki since the USMLE and it saved my HUNDREDS of studying hours AFTER the USMLE.
I also tried uWorld flashcards but ended up moving everything over to Anki 2 weeks before my step 1.
Something went wrong with their algorithm - and I lost all of my statistics!
I don't like their algorithm (it's nothing near Anki's), and once your subscription with uWorld expires, you lose all your flashcards.
Anki saves an offline copy on All of your devices.
I still have my flashcards I prepared with Anki.
To sum up - Anki for iOS requires a one time fee. I think it's worth it.

    Hello Dr. Sharon
Thanks for this great video (and the rest as well lol, big fan!)
same as you, failed my step 1 exam, and I have tried to implement your guidance in making my own Anki cards
the problem is, I am not sure if I am putting too much information into single card, and weather I need to do cards about every topic I am unfamiliar with in the UW questions' explanation. for my first block I came out with 150-200 cards...so I probably doing it wrong, am I?
additionally, should I prepare cards even on questions I answered correctly (no guessing) but there are a few points that I think is good/important to remember . should I create cards from them, or trust my brain to remember it?
thank you very much in advance, and sorry for the length🙏
any other suggestions would be much appreciated !!

      Hi!
I'm glad you find my videos helpful!
I prefer longer Anki cards with several closzes instead of several Anki cards with one cloze each. It means I end up with fewer cards per block, but it also means each card takes longer to study.
I think that it all comes down to the time you have and your personal preference. If you can get to all the cards you prepared and study them well, the quantity doesn't matter.
I recommend preparing cards for ALL facts you're not sure about. It doesn't matter if they were part of the question or the explanation of a question you got right.
These facts will appear in a question down the road, so you might as well know them now.
I would stick with it for a while and see how it goes. I expect the number of cards you prepare for each block to decrease over time.
Feel free to ask more questions.
      Good luck!!

@@ShaySharon Sir, Thank you for the answer; I felt the same: the quantity doesn't matter as long as we can complete the reviews for the day. I am just concerned that making the Anki card could lead to a lot of wasted time, and I might end up creating unnecessary Anki cards, which would be a disaster. I have tried Anki before, sir, and that became a huge problem for me personally; maybe I had only 500-600 cards per subject during medical school, but it turned out they were not high-yield at all.

How many anki cards per block do you have ?

    • @ShaySharon
      @ShaySharon  Місяць тому +1

In the first blocks - about 100 per block. It quickly reduced to 60-70 per block after about 10 blocks.
In the last blocks - about 20 cards per block

Can I use Flash card feature on Uworld?

    • @ShaySharon
      @ShaySharon  8 місяців тому +1

      Hi Javaughn!
I tried UWorld's flash cards feature and ended up moving everything over to Anki.
      Reasons:
      1. Anki is clearly built better on the fundamentals of spaced repetitions and is doing a better job at it than UWorld. I remembered everything much better with Anki and retained it for longer
      2. The Anki app is much better and you have an offline copy of your cards
      3. UWorld flash cards crashed several times when I used it. One time it even caused me to lose the entire data of my progress (after having such data on 1200 cards!).
So I highly recommend Anki over UWorld's flash cards
