    Ah. My morning meteorology education continues pleasantly. Coffee and Mark's explanations are the high points of the morning.

    I just spoke with my cousin in Michigan. She said their weather forecast is for 20 minutes of sunshine today - and she’s grateful for that!! 😮
    We are so fortunate to always expect sunshine despite cold temperatures.
    Thanks for your clear explanations. Always a great way to start my day!

    Good morning, Mark and fellow weather watchers. As of 10:07 am it's ☀️ and 54° at the Orchard Cottage Weather Center in Oakdale, CA. Dew Point 41°. Humidity 63%. Winds out of the SW at 1 mph. Gusts of 2 mph. Barometer 30.03. Morning low 32°. Thanks for the 5 Station Index for Southern Sierra. So far we have received at Orchard Cottage 0.30" of rain. Our January average is 3.62" it's our wettest average month. Maybe looking at starting some yard irrigation in February. Bill

    LA never should have been allowed to get so stinking big in the first place. That area was settled and grew to it's huge size mainly for 2 reasons. 1. It is an area that is know for low rainfall, and lots of sunny days, and 2. Mullholland brought water into the LA basin from the wetter climate of northern California. Fires like they have been having unfortunatly are a part of the eco system. Long periods of dry weather are also the norm for the entire state. Those super wet winters we had a couple years ago were not the norm. Most people don't understand that. So thank you for pointing this out in your talks.

      The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power under William Mulholland actually took the water from the Owens River in Inyo County. My late father-in-law's family were amongst the farmers that had to leave the area once the water grab took place in the 1920s. Bill

    Mark I know you say we don’t have much to worry about right now, but every day it stays dry here in the winter chips away at our room for error once our wildfire season starts here in NorCal in the summer.

    Good morning Mark. Thank you for your always informative weather briefings. Here is in the SoCal mountains of San Bernardino, we are again in a PSPS SCE power outage.🤬 And no winds here to speak of.... Anyway the question I have for you today, is there a similar rainfall total graph for the southern Californian region. Similar to the 5 and 7 station graphic you posted the past couple of days? Looking forwards to hearing from you... Thanks.

    What exactly *is* the 5400 line? Like what physically is that representing? Is that pressure at a certain altitude? Which altitude? What are the units - mb?

    • @markfinanweather
      @markfinanweather  13 днів тому +1

      5400 meters... the distance between the 1000mb level and the 500mb level. The less distance between these levels indicates colder air. Cold air is more dense than warm air
