  • There’s nothing boring about this red cabbage recipe, it's packed with flavour! Naturally sweetened with apples and slowly cooked with fennel seeds, smoky bacon, rosemary and balsamic vinegar. This dish is the perfect accompaniment to roast meats. Add a dash of clementine juice for extra festive flavour.

Dec 23rd 2023, 1:50 JUST this minute finished this recipe and it is MARVELOUS! Treat yourselves, it doesnt take long. P.S. I used tinned prunes and dried Rosemary; couldnt get any fresh, but just as good, plus you get to drink the Prune Juice after!

It was such a hit that ive done this about six times since! BTW, This cabbage is so full of Anti Oxidants that it actually lowers my blood pressure, and on days that I had it, (being type-2 Diabetic) next morning my blood sugar was well-within acceptable limits.

A great twist on red cabbage. We do not do a lot of different versions in Denmark. I mostly see one or two. The classic (vinegar) and the "modern" raw with oranges :) This one will be my next little "wow" factor

Could I substitute the cabbage with bacon? Could I add more bacon? Could I add bacon instead of prunes? Could you just give me bacon? I like bacon. Please bacon. Bacon bacon bacon.

Has anyone tried to make this at home? If so how was it? I can't even imagine the flavor explosion coming from this!

KpopNoodle Just made it today. The tang of the Apple really compliments the savory flavor of the bacon and cabbage. I also thought the vinegar smell would stay with the dish but Jamie was right. It blended in perfectly. Seriously good. I'm going to use just a little less butter next time. Good luck. :-)

Cut the fennel seeds and the rosemary and you have one of the most common german side dishes :P. Tastes even better the next day.
