this is what PROG is all about, i remember buying this LP in the 70s, and being blown away... still has that effect 50 years later, thank you Yes and thank you L33
The gates of Delirium stood as my favorite for many years, but Awaken has skooted into the lead. I makes me cry. I've listened to this stuff since the 70's, I'm gonna be 60 this year
My wife bought my ticket to Jon Anderson & The Band Geeks today for the show on July 27th in Peachtree City, Ga. I can’t wait even though I’m going by myself, I’ve seen Jon live at least 20 times with YES, with Trevor & Rick, with The School of Rock Kids, & a bunch of times solo, each & every time it’s been amazing. GOD BLESS Everyone!!!
free❤❤❤❤❤❤WOW, I have never heard this raw track of this before. How frkn interesting. Jon voice is so incredible without the over tracks and harmonies. LOVE IT. great to hear how it evolved into the pristine final rendition. I was one of those TRIPPIN & looking up through the ceiling wondering how is this possible! And I just love your remarks about this song and YES. They were something beyond incredible that should be remembered forever. After 50 years this still brings me to tears!😢😅
Jon's version of And You And I with Jean Luc Ponty is a very different arrangement and very much worth hearing. Under Anderson Ponty Band, there is a live video.
For melodic brilliance, hard to fault and showcasing the individual genius of each member of the band, and one the three tracks on arguably best progresses rock album
Great reaction Lee. I remember back in 73 "And you and I" being in our highschool lunchroom jukebox lol I saw Yes five times. They would open their shows during the Close to the edge tour with "Siberian Kahtrue" Lights down then boom! Steve Howe unleashes that powerful guitar riff to start the show. Fond memories indeed ❤️ Great choice!
thank you randy, i appreciate that my friend. I hope you enjoyed hearing this alternate version of a classic. That sounds like an amazing time and I am quite jealous lol
The first time I listened to the original Close To The Edge album (on vinyl, of course), was also the first time that I ever dropped acid alone, as opposed to in a party situation. It was, as they say, quite a trip.
Very cool to hear the different instrumentation and phrasing on this version! And You And I is probably my favourite Yes song of them all, if I had to choose! As esoteric as Jon's lyrics usually are, this song somehow makes perfect sense to me 😂.
Yes is one of the few bands that sounds better live than in their original recordings. I highly highly recommend checking out And You and I from their 2003 live recording from Montreaux. Fantastic!
This one is a first. Lovely song. For me, overshadowed by the other 2 songs. And when I hear this, I remember that all 3 are needed to give the whole thing the harmony and balance. What an achievement. ❤ I was watching Jon earlier interviewed about the new tour. He’s 80. ❤
I love this song, but, then again, I say that about most Yes songs. One of my favorite elements is the ritardando section when the drums go into major sludge mode while everyone follows suit. I can just imagine a royal court as one legendary dignitary after another marches to the foot of the king and queen at the altar of all-knowing. Yes, one of the greatest experiences entailing Yes was sitting in my friend's beat-up Volkswagen Passat stoned out of our minds listening to Cose to the Edge. It's bad enough being straight listening to that song, takes you so far out of reality. When it was done, we just sat for a long while before reality was allowed back in. Yes, one of the greatest bands ever to grace this fair earth. Paz!
Your alternate version is the version I remember, and I was there when it came out. Radio stations must have cut it down. Never cut a YES song. It's sacrilege!
I see Yes as a prog band for people who don't like prog -- with their tight arrangements and wonderful melodies, and lack of drawn out instrumental noodling like so many others in this genre. Yes they are severely underrated - such a shame.
Hildegard von Bingen (1098-1179) - De Spiritu Sancto (Holy Spirit, The Quickener Of Life) Bach (1685 - 1750) - Bach Cello Suite No.1 in G Hayden (1732 - 31 May 1809) - Symphony No. 45 in F-sharp minor "Farewell" Mozart (1756 - 1791) - Symphony No. 40 in G minor, K. 550 Etc… We’ll be listening to Yes, Zappa, Rolling Stones, Beatles & Devo for a while to come. (Maybe not Devo so much) Timeless music speaks to every generation.
This is a rough take, they would record in segments, and splice together the arrangement, then learn the actual arrangement for live shows, and often to lay down the foundation tracks, often playing along with other takes to keep other overdubs. Close to the Edge was done that way, which is also why it has section names.
I thought the opening harmonics were Steve Howe checking the tuning on his 12 string, which they thought sounded cool so left them in the final track. But as he did them on them on this early take too (this appears to be a comp of various rehearsals), they must be an intentional part of the arrangement.
YES! 😊 It's definitely an "alternative" version of this song. It's not my favorite, but interesting, nonetheless. I've actually never heard this version before, so thanks for bringing it to us.
Interesting version. Sounds like they still had some overdubs and mixing to do but abandoned it in favor of the other. One of my favorite Yes tunes too.
I just love this Yes album! Someone sent you a butcher cover Beatles Yesterday and Today??? Either you've inherited some very rich friends (awesome)! or someone successfully steamed off the replacement cover (not advised, but still awesome if successful) or it's a reproduction (better than not having it). Anyway, still cool! 😊
Could this be a Steven Wright remix, I know he did about 5 Yes classic albums including this one, along with a bunch of Jethro Tull and other bands. He is the founder and main musician in porcupine tree.
Though good maybe it’s because it is live, he does not give me that emotional lift as the original vocals ! By the way I got high on life with this one back in the early to mid 1970’s not on any drugs. Of course I was only a young teenager when I first heard the live version on YESSSONGS!
Two things. If pushed I would probably say this is my favorite YES song. The other. I hope this is your new set up. I’m not remotely OCD but the other room with its miss aligned posters, the one above your head buckling like it might fall any minute. Kinda made me antsy.

Uplifting beautiful song of hope and love.Your wall sign echos the words and music

Me too 🥲
The most beautiful song ever written by the greatest band there ever was or will ever be!🤩
This version is first time for my ears. Pure gold! Thanks Lee.
Jon's version of And You And I with Jean Luc Ponty is a very different arrangement and very much worth hearing. Under Anderson Ponty Band, there is a live video.
When I introduce someone to Yes, And You And I is the first song they hear.
a perfect intro track into the magical world of Yes.
For melodic brilliance, hard to fault and showcasing the individual genius of each member of the band, and one the three tracks on arguably best progresses rock album
It's difficult to accept the alternative transitions having fallen in love with the original 45 years ago
After 52 years, I'm not ready for a different take on the classic.
This sounds like a work in progress.
I agree, I thought it was a demo.

Roundabout was in our school’s jukebox - my introduction to Yes. Fragile was in the first group of albums I bought when I could afford a stereo.
This is more of a rehearsal tracking version than an alternate. Before it was finished.
The first time I listened to the original Close To The Edge album (on vinyl, of course), was also the first time that I ever dropped acid alone, as opposed to in a party situation. It was, as they say, quite a trip.
Rick Wakeman opens his current show with this, and a female vocalist. The song still sounds great.
next year i turn 60, its frighteneing, but so happy MY music is in your good hands... tell everyone about it
Obviously an earlier take when they were still figuring out what to do in certain sections. Very cool to hear.
glad you enjoyed hearing a different version, brother. I did too. I've heard this song a ton so hearing all the little changes were really cool.
Very cool to hear the different instrumentation and phrasing on this version! And You And I is probably my favourite Yes song of them all, if I had to choose!
As esoteric as Jon's lyrics usually are, this song somehow makes perfect sense to me 😂.
yeah this is some of the more clear and less abstract Jon lyrics. I love it lol. Top 5 yes track easy, for me. Thank you for watching!
I wish I was 30 again. My 30s and 40s were amongst the best decades of my life.
Love this song...❤😊 Thanks darlin. 👍
How can you not LOVE THIS!!!!! ❤
We had the best music to get high to 😂
Yes is one of the few bands that sounds better live than in their original recordings. I highly highly recommend checking out And You and I from their 2003 live recording from Montreaux. Fantastic!
One of my favorite albums.
At 68 yrs old I believe it's way better to turn 30 than to NOT turn 30, if you get my drift. 😉
that is the truest thing i've read today. thank you.
Don’t worry.
There’s still time for lying in the sunshine, staying home to watch the rain.

I love this song! Great reaction!
When YES West played this Chris would have a little harmonica part that was really fun. R.I.P.
YES West.... god i love the lore of this band lol
He also played it on Love Will Find a Way on Big Generator ❤
I love this song, but, then again, I say that about most Yes songs. One of my favorite elements is the ritardando section when the drums go into major sludge mode while everyone follows suit. Ouu, nice version of this classic 👌🏼
absolutely! i loved hearing all the little differences and such. they did a great job with this song. even different takes make it great! lol
Your alternate version is the version I remember, and I was there when it came out. Radio stations must have cut it down. Never cut a YES song. It's sacrilege!
Thanks for locating this verson L33!

WAS JUST GOING TO SAY ITS SO BEAUTIFUL!!!!!! LOL YES WE DID!!!!!
so, so beautiful :D
Very interesting, never heard this cut. Don't remember Steve Howe using the reverse attack effect in anything else.
Cool--I like the regular version best.
Never heard this before, good but not the orginal that I fell in love with back when we played it on real records with headphones
There is a great live version of this!
Hildegard von Bingen (1098-1179) - De Spiritu Sancto (Holy Spirit, The Quickener Of Life)
Bach (1685 - 1750) - Bach Cello Suite No.1 in G
Hayden (1732 - 31 May 1809) - Symphony No. 45 in F-sharp minor "Farewell"
Mozart (1756 - 1791) - Symphony No. 40 in G minor, K. 550
Etc…
We’ll be listening to Yes, Zappa, Rolling Stones, Beatles & Devo for a while to come. (Maybe not Devo so much) Timeless music speaks to every generation.
"Instant dopamine." that's a music bumper sticker.
it really is instant dopamine this entire song. just pure joy in audio form.

I admire your work . I turn 71 in two weeks. 🎉🎉🎉🎉
imagination and complexity 2 elements missing from the dreg you hear today
So cool!
Yes Yes & more Yes!
Yes , there will be more Yes. :D
YES! 😊 It's definitely an "alternative" version of this song. It's not my favorite, but interesting, nonetheless. I've actually never heard this version before, so thanks for bringing it to us.
Now that you've done a deep Yes dive, don't sleep on their album Fly From Here: Return trip. It's one of the most underappreciated albums out there.
lol
Very shortened version, but awesome.
It's actually a minute longer then the studio cut I believe 🤣it feels shorter though for sure
Odd arrangement. I’m so glad the finalized on the one we all know and love. !
Woot! ❤ Reminds me of seeing them live!!
Still holding out for Mind Drive! What are you waiting for!? 😊😊
Oh and 2003 probably Alan not Bill!😉
sometime soon! i will do it lol. eventually. i promise.
and it was recorded during CTTE its just an alternate take i believe.
Correct but there is much to cover first.
@@L33ReactsLee, you are correct 👍😊
@@markoliver630 what do You want to Lee to react to?
Interesting version. Sounds like they still had some overdubs and mixing to do but abandoned it in favor of the other. One of my favorite Yes tunes too.
Interesting. 🤔💙🎵🎶🎶
Maybe their best song 🤷🏻♂️
@@realbser1956 the most played by me. And the ladies like it. So it’s a winner
the ladies loving it will never NOT be a valid reason with merit to like a song :) play for the ladies and you will live forever
@@L33Reacts you must be a reincarnated old rock and roller. Back in day all we cared about was if girls liked our band.
Wow! This is different, I never heard it before. I like the other version more.
i do too. but its nice to hear a different version!
@@L33Reacts I suppose it was a difficult song to compose.
Let ya know, after you turn 30 time starts to fly by a lot faster. Watch how fast 40 comes. Have fun NOW while now is still here.
I would love it if you could react to all the songs off the Yessongs and Yesshows albums ?

Well, they messed with it. It was cool but bizarre. Kinda like they invited Zappa over to do a mix.
