    Hi Alan, just found your channel and subscribed. Great stuff. There's not enough wildlife filmmaking BTS content on UA-cam and you're doing a great job of it.

      It's hard not to go wrong with these cameras, I just wish they had pre-roll like the RED ecosystem has!

    Excellent video

    Hi Alan, great videos, congratulations.
    I have a question for you. In the first seconds there is an elephant in the image that have a really nice texture. In the second 6 there is an image of the making off without that texture and then we watch the elephant another time with the nice texture.
    Do you obtain that texture in pospo or is the normal texture of the Black Magic cameras sensors?
    I film with a Panasonic camcorder and I would like to obtain that texture in my videos.
    Thanks,
    Carles

      Hey Carles! Great to hear from you! The biggest things in getting better texture in your images are several things. One, is sensor size. So the Black Magic sensor is a Super 35 sensor that I was using, which is much bigger than the DJI Osmo Pocket of that second BTS shot you were rerencing, which that camera is a 1/2.3" sensor, and much much much smaller than the black magic. Lens also make a big difference. My DJI Osmo Pocket only has one lens, which is a 15mm equivilent lens, paired with that small sensor, means that everything is basically in focus, and details are lost when subjects are far away. Whereas on the Black Magic, which has a larger sensor, and a proper lens that can zoom in and capture detail, you can retain texture much easier when the subject is further away. The final peice in the puzzle is distance to your subject. If I filmed an elephant with the small sensor, but was really close, I could still have proper texture. But if it's far, you loose it. Same for the Black Magic, but the bigger Zoom lens helps get closer. But if the elephants are really really far away, and even a zoom lens can't reach, then it doesn't matter. So getting a proper lens that can bring your subject closer is better.

      @@FilmingTheWild Hey Alan, thanks for your answer.
      Yes of course, we can compare the sensor of the dji with the sensor of the bmpcc6k.
      I use a Panasonic AG-UX 180 (1" sensor) camcorder for film wildlife and I asked you because with this camera I obtain images "very digitals", without that cinematic texture.
      I would like to obtain it and if with my camera isn't possible, I amb thinking in change it.
      It's for this that I answered you if the texture of the elephant was pospo or was the result directly of the camera.
      The best wishes.

    Hey, what's that rail called that's used to hold both the lens and camera? I'm wanting to use a 150-600mm but don't want stress on the mounts.

    • @FilmingTheWild
      @FilmingTheWild  2 роки тому

      It's a 15mm rail/rod, and it's connected to a baseplate that the camera is mounted to. You'll need to also acquire a lens support piece as well, and I recommend a tilta lens support, as it seems to support the weight of a lens over some of the cheaper lens supports I've used. Here's a list of some of the equipment I use if interested: www.amazon.com/shop/tlpmediafilms

      @@FilmingTheWild awesome, thank you for the reply. What lens are you using on your RED?

    • @FilmingTheWild
      @FilmingTheWild  2 роки тому

      We use a variety of different lenses on the RED, but in the videos on here you've likely seen, it's the Canon 50-1000mm Cine lens, or CN-20 as its often referred to as. It's a beast of a lens. Unfortunately I don't own either the RED or the CN-20, but I do have access to them.
