Some good comedy set-ups on this show, and Miss Brooks had a great number of comebacks that no one seemed to take offense at. Eve Arden often played this kind of character in her career, and she always made me smile.
I prefer Mary Jane Croft as this type of somewhat aloof character as opposed to her kooky "Mary Jane" character on The Lucy Show and Here's Lucy. That is, I prefer her from this time period until her last appearances as Audrey Simmons on The Lucy Show in the early 1960s.
She has a very novel loveliness about her. She popped-up seemingly everywhere in TV's golden age. I know her more from radio now thanks to Sirius/XM's Radio Classics though it's been a while since I've listened to that.
@@TralfazConstruction I'm probably in the minority when I say I prefer Mary Jane as this type of character. Everyone is familiar with her as her kooky Mary Jane character on the later Lucy Shows and Here's Lucy.
@@rtususian You get so used to her high pitched voice you're not sure what she really sounds like. She was everywhere during those days, including Ozzie and Harriet
Carolyn Appleby was played by the actress Doris Singleton; Daisy Enright here is played by Mary Jane Croft. Funny that both Eve and Lucy had several of the same co-stars: Gale Gordon, Richard Crenna (guest on I Love Lucy and My Favorite Husband), Mary Jane Croft on all 3 Lucy series, Doris Singleton on Lucy's and Eve's shows, etc.
@@rtususian I thought she was Carolyn Applebee on The Lucy/ Desi comedy Hour when they moved to the country. Who was that neighbor that was helping Lucy re- decorate the house and Lucy spent over the budget Ricky gave her. I maybe wrong but, who was that lady? She had that voice.
Why are so oft ideals so far from said, and established perfections? It is because lesser natures lack restraint, and as it is perceived from out of our own fallen nature, that lesser nature chases after cheap and titillating sensations, while ignoring the more profound and elevating thoughts because of it.
Eve Arden's last comeback about the number of stars on the flag was priceless. She sure could deliver her lines so perfectly in all her episodes.
Mary Jane only did a few "Miss Brooks" episodes. She should have been a regular. I love "when I was in my TEENS".

My oh my Eve Arden can wear clothes! Love the stars on the flag joke!
When you were in your teens, there weren’t many stars on the flag! Sooooo snarky! 😂 You go Connie!
Great writing! Fantastic series!

Mary Jane had so much fun in this role. Dripping with venom. Lots of fun.

been watching since Principal Darwell !
My fiance says I have the same delivery and timing as eve Arden. It's been 26 years and he is still my fiance.
He's been your fiance for 26 years??? His last name isn't Boynton is it?

An early (and better) version of Maude - I love Eve
FYI If you're a fan of both, Eve made an appearance on MAUDE as Maude's Aunt in 1977, believe it or not.

Mary Jane Croft was 8 years younger than Eve Arden
