Thanks for a very insightful video. By doing it the first time yourself, it showed me what obstacles I was likely to come across. Subsequently, my new switch install was an easy and successful little job done in no time. However, I only wish youd dropped your socket down in tailgate void like I did, then show us how to get the sod back. It took me 30 minutes to retrieve 🤦🏻♂️ 😂
An excellent tutorial particularly on the gas struts as mine are on their way out. After your great vid, I will do mine myself! As a matter if interest, where did you get your struts and how much are they? As for the boor release, I had mine replaced only 10 months ago and it has already failed once again. Thankfully like you, I can still open boot with my key fob. Still need to get another repair done as I have a dog kennel in the boot and worry if both fails, I could have a trapped dog!
Interesting and informative video - thanks. I think those gas struts need replacing after 8 or 10 years as they do go soft. Did you do the bonnet ones as well? By the way, while you were doing that I think I would have also replaced the number-plate light with the LED ones from PowerfulUK - they just clip in. 👍
I have a pre face lift. But my boot is stuck shut! I’ve put the seats down and checked for anything stuck in the lock (like a bag strap) and there is no luck when using the dash buttons or the boot release. I’ve tried giving it kick from inside the boot and nothing. Sometimes it says ‘tailgate open’ on the dash, sometimes not. This normally happens after I’ve tried the buttons to open. My MOT is in a week and need to get this sorted! Help!
Would you recommend a freelander 2 I’m looking at one 2013 sd4 gs 55k what I’ve been reading & seen on UA-cam there great & there not ? I’m confused 🤔 any help would be appreciated ….. any help ?
From what I have read and found so far, they are probably the most reliable out of all the Land Rovers. It’s obviously not as hardcore for off roading, but with a lift and a fuel tank guard they seem to do very well.
I love mine. Have had it since new (2013). I did have to get a PTU replaced recently which was a major pain, and not cheap so if buying a Freelander do get it checked over by Land Rover if you can. Non Land Rover service people were unable to diagnose the issue. My belief is that the PTU failed because I used engine braking when going down hills (as opposed to wheel brakes). This possibly puts a load on the PTU which it isn't designed for on a regular basis. I also love the sturdiness of this machine. It's one of the last Land Rovers to have a proper chassis as opposed to the monocoque construction of today..

Haha, I remember being worried about that
Quick and low cost fix that makes getting into the back much easier

Thanks John good point on bonnet struts and LED's.
“New addition to the family” made me wonder for a sec!

Nice
My boot is unlocking on its own.... So says boot unlocked on dashboard. 2007. Garage says its the switch
I guess it could be the switch if it partially keeps making contact. Replace it, they are cheap and about an hours work at home.
💯
