I started playing with booze and drugs young. My family were big partiers and addicts. Id drink then do coke and ride my harley and wake up in random place after a bender. When i found out i was going to be a dad i gave it all up. 15yrs now not a drop. Im breaking the cycle(i still ride my harley to random places but now i remember)
Used to drink pretty heavy. Had a New Year’s party a couple years ago where I went pretty heavy. We had it at our house and had some friends kids around. I apparently danced, played games and whatnot all night. I remembered none of it but those kids did and they mentioned it a day or two later with so much excitement about it and I just didn’t remember any of it. That was my breaking point. Worried about forgetting fun times with my own kids I decided no drinking from then on and I don’t regret it at all.
I used to party hard when I was young and I had some “friends” that liked to see how messed up I could get. After I died in the ambulance and was brought back I sobered up and saw just what kind of buddies I had. There’s even more to it, but this isn’t the place for it.
I think it says more about the military than "drinking buddies"... on 9/11/2001 it was my buddies who showed up and brought over futons and beds knowing family would be descending on my house. I never asked, they just showed up. When one of the group passed away, it was again the buddies who descended on the widow's house, cleaned it up, brought food, found buyers for all his project cars, organized his massive tool collection and solid it for the highest price for her... choosing the right people to surround yourself is key.
Sober over seven years myself. The small amount of things you lose you gain so much anyway. And i was stuck in a much deeper world than Car Wizard, he was just smart enough to get out at the early signs lol
After missing my youngest son's first Christmas because I was in jail after getting a DUI I was done with the stuff and haven't touched it since. That was over 30 years ago.
I gave up alcohol because I get hungover way too easy. It was affecting my surfing. No morning sesh, many times a whole day wasted feeling bad from self inflicted choice. I hate wasting a day when we are given so few.
A wise man learns from their mistakes. A genius learns from the mistakes of others. The Car Wizard is definitely a genius. Never much of a drinker myself, but I've a few college dorm stories like this. One kid I knew at the time got angry while drunk and put his fist through a dorm window. Gouged his wrist and needed stitches. Likewise, most of my friend group now aren't big drinkers. No thefts. No Injuries. No DUIs. No first responders needed. And my daughter and her boyfriend are just the same. You don't really need alcohol and drugs to have a good time.
I stopped drinking the juice over 7 years ago, and while a couple of drinking buddies drifted away, the friends stayed. It was a great leveller, and I'm happier and wealthier than I've ever been.
In a pub a colleague was entertaining a couple of girls by sitting on the floor pouring a pint of beer over his head. The girl sat next to me, who was probably the designated driver, said "Do you know him?" When I said "I sit next to him at work" her reply was "Well if he continues like that I'm going to hit him". 🙂 The only people you will impress while drunk are other drunks.

I do enough dumb things sober I don’t need a bottle of stupid. Thanks for sharing. I have seen similar activity and stopped some from folks from their possible early demise.
I had some pretty similar experiences when I first went to college in 1980. Back then the drinking age was 18, so a lot of freshmen away from home for the first time were going crazy. In a moment of clarity I realized that this behavior was unsustainable, so I just quit drinking cold turkey on my 19th birthday, and haven't drunk alcohol since then. If I hadn't made that decision over 44 years ago, I'm pretty sure I would either be in prison or dead by this point.
The 18 years olds still go crazy it’s just not legal. Plenty of areas in the US you can get away with it in cities(even more so rural). Unless you’re getting really nuts the odds of getting caught and charged are very low. My guess is at least 70%-80% of 18 year olds (including band geeks, theater kids, etc.,not just the “cool kids” and jocks.) have at least tried alcohol. Plenty of them drink just as hard (or more) than the 21+ crowd.
My mum had 24 blood transfusions to stop the bleeding, saw mum bleeding from her eyes, arm pits and finger nails because mums blood was so thin. Scared me off alcohol they removed 2/3rds of mums liver and mum spent a year in hospital living 10years before getting cancer in her remaining liver. I thought every mum had a gatorade bottle of wine in the glovebox.
Thanks to the availability of residential rehab at the the VA I'm over 11 years sober. I now build factories and racecars. Guess which one makes money.

The drive to incapacitate your ability to make sound decisions is something I will never understand.

This is why I ONLY drink with 2 specific friends. We've known each other for so many years and we only drink if we're around each other because we know we'll always be looking out for each other and we just stay chill anyways. We don't get loud and annoying like others.
Yep, I have stories like that too. I’d be concerned for someone’s safety, I would voice that concern, and then I’d be treated like I was crazy for even having that concern. My problem is that I started to believe it, and I let some things fly that I shouldn’t have. Glad I don’t do that anymore.
The thing is, I am from Germany, and I was legally allowed to drink from 16 on. At least beer and wine. So When I hit my early 20s and started to work in a bar, i was never interested anymore to get drunk. Dealing with drunks. While being sober really makes you think haha. I have the occasional drink, maybe 2 or 3 a months, but thats it. I am so wasted after drinking to much now in my 30s that i just dont think the aftermath is worth it lol.
I was a bartender for years when I was young man. I made a rule a that I follow to this day. No more than two beers a day. Never blacked out, never crashed a car or failed a breathalyzer test, took part in a brawl, or assaulted a woman like so many of the drinkers that paid my rent. It sure makes some people dumber. Especially young men.
My dad quit drinking when he was in the Navy. During his wild, single days, he and a buddy went ashore to a bar and got wasted. The friend passed out and dad blacked out. Woke up the next morning in his bunk and found out he’d fireman-carried his buddy down into the bowels of the aircraft carrier and had no memory of it. Anyone who’s been on a big ship knows how dangerous that was; he could have killed one or the other of them. Scared him straight and he never drank again. 😂
im in the same boat, my reasons are mostly health related, and a hangover not being worth the fun anymore, but i do also agree w the recklessness that can come along with excess drinking, it might have been cute when youre 21 but not when you get older.
Unfortunately, my dad and two uncles became alcoholics while in the military. My daughter-in-law's sister's husband, while stationed overseas, one night drank heavily, opened an elevator door and thought he'd be Tarzan and climb on the cables. He passed away after falling down the elevator shaft. I have an occasional drink with dinner, but vow never to drink excessively. I've personally seen the damage it can cause.
My brother was stationed in Minot and one winter a young Airman stuck a bottle of Vodka in a snow bank and left it for hours. Came back later, took a big drink, it froze his throat and he died.
@shanet7511 I mean, I'm living proof it won't make you "really fat" been going on a decade now, easily. own my own buisness with 6000 sqft shop. I gross about 15k a month income soo.. good try but yeah some people can't handle it. Really most people now and days.
I quit the weekly weekend drinking about 10 years ago. Some of my friends continued heavy drinking way after we passed our 30's. Some have kids and a high profile job but can't live without the bottle. I found that very sad and difficult to see. And they always offered me a beer right after lunch so they could start themselves without being ashamed. Anyways, I drink 3 or 4 times a year and that's it. Christmas, new years Eve and the only two times I go to a bar with two friends and that's it. And I drank A LOT during my student years.
This is why I love this channel. This more the rule than the exception. Quality good people. Car wizard is humble, yet full of knowledge and wisdom, unlike the complete self absorbed fool that did the video on the Saleen S7. Keep this going. This is the finest car culture!
Same story for me. Too many stories and I honestly don’t like how I feel the next day so it’s not worth it anymore. I still have a great time wherever I go but I just don’t drink. Everyone assumes you are a recovering alcoholic, they just can’t understand why someone just simply doesn’t want to drink.
I appreciate CW’s candidness. It shows his level of maturity at a younger age that he learned from others painful mistakes and was never the ‘main character’ in these stories.
Never grew up around alcohol, when I was in my early 20’s I never enjoyed the bar scene, pandemic hit, 2 years later it was pretty much over and I was 26 and lost interest. I’ll occasionally have 2 beers but my interest in it has slowed down. Plus baby sitting people who are hungover is just annoying
I used to drink pretty damn heavy when I was younger but the people I drank with had been my friends before alcohol came into our lives so I lucked out there. I will say though when I turned 26 me and a friend of mine decided to pretty much quit drinking and get healthy I noticed a good improvement on how I felt daily, 8 years later I only touch alcohol once maybe or twice a year.
I’ve had a lot of addictions, from Amazon prime shopping to hard drugs, I’ve always stayed away from alcohol (and opioids). Like the wizard I can drink at dinner but I’m not a guy for drinking being the main event
As with most of life, it's not WHAT you are doing so much as WHO you are doing it with that ends up mattering. For the most part, I was pretty lucky, and hung out with people that mostly took care of each other. There were pranks, face paintings, all the typical stuff, but we were always a "runnin' crew" and worked together, hung out on off time together, and were friends. The worst thing I can remember was a friend waking up on a southbound bus about the time he was supposed to be getting ready for his wedding. Bachelor party was epic. He was marrying a shrieking harpy who hated all his friends, most his family, and hen pecked him thru 3 years of dating. We weren't really fond of her, either. He passed out early at the bachelor party, someone got the idea to send him to Vegas on a bus. Long story short, his Mom arranged a flight from Southern Idaho back to Spokane, he was 4 hours late to his wedding. His Dad thought it was the funniest thing ever, bought us all booze and gifts and stuff time to time for years after. His Mom was pissed, but kinda found some humor in it, as she wasn't super fond of her new daughter in law either. Our buddy was forbidden to ever speak to any of us again, though you hear from him a couple times a year. Nearly 40 years later, you might be able to speak my name without her going ballistic, though I have not tested it. I guess life is what we make of it.
Guys would drink the night before PT runs and fall out and fall down on runs and we would keep running and step on them and finish PT run. We fought a lot. It was wild place in barracks. I could write a book about all the crazy stuff that happened
There are plenty of other addictions to choose from. I've chosen bikes, boats, and golf instead of alcohol. It's important to have an addiction that works for you, however, to avoid accumulating too much money with nothing to spend it on.
Serious respect for you Wizard for not drinking and much less using illegal substances. I feel the same way about drinking and even worse towards illegal substances, unfortunately, many of us have a black sheep in the family and in this case, unfortunately it's a sister of mine, and because of her, I've learned how evil people can become when using illegal substances and even drinking and how easily many of them lose their lives to that...thank you Wizard for sharing your story.
I got divorced at age 32 and I did the thing that people often do when they get divorced... I started dating right away. Or trying to... It mostly didn't work. Well... being a 32 year old man who had an ex-wife who was the most obnoxious drunk in history and had young children... I mostly didn't want to drink. When I was married if I was drinking the wife wanted to as well and she was a perfect storm of being an extreme light-weight and would never pass out no matter how drunk she was. So she was a problem from half way into the second drink until she finally decided to go to sleep. Also the next day she was guaranteed not to wake up till noon or later so that meant I had to be the one to deal with the kids in the morning. Which was okay... but I wasn't good at doing that when hungover. So me drinking was a rare occurrence when I was still married and it turns out much like starting a drinking habit you can also start a non-drinking habit and it tends to stick if you just keep at it. Well... being young and telling prospective dates that you don't tends to get one of three distinct assumptions: 1) Legal reasons 2) Religious reasons 3) Medical reasons The one time anyone would ask they'd act like I'm a weirdo because I don't want to get drunk anymore... I am a weirdo in a lot of ways but I feel like being sober is the least weird thing about me.
I’m just curious about the VW-pawn shop thing..why would they take the Beatle without a title?.even with the title he’d have to show an ID and forge all the paperwork..just a little odd
I'm not a drinker either. I'm from Mew Orleans where drinking is a way of life. I grew up with parents who were heavy drinkers of Scotch. They were amazing loving parents , when they were sober, but after the scotch took over not so much. It made for a very difficult childhood of referring fights, verbal and physical. Of course the n xt day it would be as if it never happened. Which is hard for a pre teen kid to understand and deal with. We could never have friends over at night because you never knew what was goons occur. As a adult I did have an active social life but I was n ver one who like to drink til I was wasted. I decided as a child that life choice want for me. Now that I'm over 60. I rarely ev n drink a beer . No problem with those that like to drink, just not for me. I can not and do not tolerate drunks. Especially those who want to argue and get physically violent. Respect to my parents who I loved , they showed my how not to act. They didn't do it on purpose. It was the 70's nobody talked about . I don't place all the blame on them. They were a product of the times. During the day they were loving successful people. After Scotch time (5 PM on the dot) everyday , not so much. It got progressively worse as the night wore on til they finally passed out. It was a 7 day a week event.

A very wise wizard!
Stick to the wizards lettuce 🥬 🧙♂️
Facts 😂
Based
It’s a lot more fun, and you can’t die from it.
@@ianyeh75and no hangover. That's the best part.
Facts
Unfortunately, my dad and two uncles became alcoholics while in the military. My daughter-in-law's sister's husband, while stationed overseas, one night drank heavily, opened an elevator door and thought he'd be Tarzan and climb on the cables. He passed away after falling down the elevator shaft. I have an occasional drink with dinner, but vow never to drink excessively. I've personally seen the damage it can cause.
Car was sold multiple times with no title? 🤔
Shhh
At that point I knew his story was BS.
My Army son says the same thing. He doesn't either Wizard. He is in So Ko till June now.
Awesome job here! Your humility in comedy is hilarious.
My brother was stationed in Minot and one winter a young Airman stuck a bottle of Vodka in a snow bank and left it for hours. Came back later, took a big drink, it froze his throat and he died.
i didn't say to myself, this isn't car related....... It's the wizard. thank you Mr. wizard for sharing important things about life.
Type 2 diabetes here. I’ve had to make plenty of lifestyle changes. Not drinking was only one. I certainly don’t miss hangovers or the cost.
Young wizard looks like that guy who would say "dude thats all your gonna drink, come on man drink more"
Is 6 beers most days considered drinking/alcoholism ?
I'd say yes, also the carbs and calories will make you really fat.
Sober 35 years in April. Best move I ever made.
This is why I love this channel. This more the rule than the exception. Quality good people. Car wizard is humble, yet full of knowledge and wisdom, unlike the complete self absorbed fool that did the video on the Saleen S7. Keep this going. This is the finest car culture!
Never a dull moment at the barracks.
Alcohol & Tobacco, the government approved intoxicants for a reason, and its not your own best interest. 🤕😷🤮💀
Thanks Wizard for sharing this - you may have safe a life or two without even knowing. All the best.

I love that picture 5:09
I used to drink pretty damn heavy when I was younger but the people I drank with had been my friends before alcohol came into our lives so I lucked out there. I will say though when I turned 26 me and a friend of mine decided to pretty much quit drinking and get healthy I noticed a good improvement on how I felt daily, 8 years later I only touch alcohol once maybe or twice a year.
I dont know how i Ed held him send from laughing 🤣🤣
Right there with you. Haven’t had a drop in over 25 years
I’ve had a lot of addictions, from Amazon prime shopping to hard drugs, I’ve always stayed away from alcohol (and opioids). Like the wizard I can drink at dinner but I’m not a guy for drinking being the main event
Love the Car Wizard! He’s a cool cat! ✨
I wasn't ready for military-wizard's picture!
Drinking is not worth the hangover- too many bad experiences.
Your a bigger man saying NO for your own personal reasons
Guys would drink the night before PT runs and fall out and fall down on runs and we would keep running and step on them and finish PT run. We fought a lot. It was wild place in barracks. I could write a book about all the crazy stuff that happened
As one person said below, "I think it says more about the military than 'drinking buddies'." Agree.
There are plenty of other addictions to choose from. I've chosen bikes, boats, and golf instead of alcohol. It's important to have an addiction that works for you, however, to avoid accumulating too much money with nothing to spend it on.
Good on ya Wizard. With you 100%.
The car wizard is the man that man could show this younger generation how to be real man
same here wizard, i’ll roll one up for both of us
According to interwebs the car wizard is only 26. Is this correct?
Ah, the Wise Wizard has such clarity of mind! Your story is very similar to mine.
Is the girl in pic at 5:06 and 1:30 Mrs. Wizard? I doubt it, but 2 pics of same people and some similarities.
Well... being young and telling prospective dates that you don't tends to get one of three distinct assumptions:
1) Legal reasons
2) Religious reasons
3) Medical reasons
The one time anyone would ask they'd act like I'm a weirdo because I don't want to get drunk anymore... I am a weirdo in a lot of ways but I feel like being sober is the least weird thing about me.
As a former first sergeant, alcohol, barracks brides, second lieutenants, bane of the Army.
Thank you for sharing👏🏽🙏🏽
Where you stationed Wizard? , cause this sure sounds like my barracks in scholfield barracks , HI
I no longer drink & am lucky enough to not have "buddies" like that. Just couldn't take the hangovers anymore....
It's certainly fun in the moment but it has long term effects that you just don't think about until it's too late. Mentally and physically.
i do like my wiskey but it just a glass every now and then. have seen these stories play out among classmates and friends and some didnt make it or are damaged for life. also working in resturants and having to deal with the drunken idiots trying to abuse the waitresses. presonally i have never had drinking buddies and i dont feel like i missed out on much
having the first link in the description be for whiskey seems a little distasteful :/
