I don’t live in California,, but when prices went up after Covid, I started cooking more at home. Groceries are not cheap by no means, but a lot better than eating out.
No, not really. For some people, it is actually cheaper to eat out. If you value your time with your family, you will see that it is cheaper to eat out. If your focus is on bringing in more money to your house and nothing else, you will realize that eating out is best for you
Ok. Meal prep & save our money.

4.99 crazy. 3.79 in my city.
This is going to backfire on the fast food industry. No one is going to pay $15 for a Big Mac when you can get a quality burger for the same price at a regular restaurant.
Only that restaurant burger is now $20-25, without a side dish!
You obviously have no idea how addictive fast food is. People will still pay the price regardless of how much it costs. Restaurants know this
Nah fast food chains probably lobbied for this. They know smaller businesses will have to cut staff, quality or even close down because of this, making the big chains the only ones you can choose from. They'll keep their prices the same and once the competition starts raising their prices and people can't afford to go, then they'll start raising their prices.
@@grossguy9570Restaurants didn't want this. They could have laid people off any time they wanted. Why would they ask for higher expenses and lower profits?
Lunch time burger with fries, $10.95 at longhorn steakhouse in Wilkes Barre PA. Plus cost of a beverage and tip. Premium over $16 McDonald's is tip for server.
People vote with dollars. I vote for eating at home .
$20 an hour for shrinkflated fast food is ludicrous.
Do not understand a $20 minimum wage for non skilled workers. So skilled workers have to go up. How much should an educated worker earn compared to an uneducated worker.

Why would you work for 16 an hour at a manufacturing plant when you get paid 20 serving burgers?
The employer will be forced to compete once they realise people are not signing up to work.

The problem is some people don't understand the difference between minimum wage and living wage. They're not the same. A living wage pays for all your living expenses like housing, bills, transportation, and food. You shouldn't be making a living wage just by flipping burgers. Skilled and educated Americans who went to college with a degree is making barely enough to support themselves living, while these politicians wanting to match minimum wage to living wage. It makes no sense right? Why should people work so hard to get a degree with huge school loan to pay off, while a non skilled worker can make almost as much?
Fast food employees will get $20/ hr and a burger lunch will be $15.
Fast food is an entry level job, not a career.
Wages should reflect an employees value to the business. This is not for some politicians to decide.

Years of being in the service industry both FOH and BOH taught me the value of the experience and I rarely go out now. Paying $20, pre-tip, taxes and variable fees not included, for a simple sandwich is a situation where that math don't math unless you are getting something *super special* on the side. I won't even order take out from a restaurant that only uses one of the pick-up apps because they rob the restaurant with brutal fees via the app, regardless of whether the order is pickup or delivery - sadly that's a loss/loss for the restaurant but why should I pay more for less? I'll skip the walk to a restaurant, swing past the store and make it myself for a FRACTION of the cost and no snarky driver who cannot locate a basic address who I have to tip...and for what?
Additionally, those delivery drivers can be a plague on restaurant streets that are high traffic streets. Just try navigating a street that is a bus route and also has a line of restaurants. If the restaurants are open, the drivers have no issue making the street a parking lot, meanwhile we drive slowly past empty restaurants with stacks of to-go boxes.
People, pick your poison.
They wont pay it because it cuts into their share. They will not forsake making buckets of money instead of modest profits that is why. They can afford it this its just sad if Canada can pay their folks 20.00 why cant it work here...why because of greed.
I live on a block with a major pizza chain and two ghost kitchens and the plague of delivery drivers is an absolute nightmare. They clog the block with their cars, double park in the lanes creating traffic jams, spit and urinate all over the sidewalk and in doorways, and are an all round nuisance. You don't even want to know how they handle the customers food. I see them pee on a tree, then go grab the food/pizza, set it on the dirty sidewalk or street while they get their phone/keys and then leave. It's disgusting.

This is simple economics. By raising the minimum wage, employers will have to pass those costs on to consumers, or eliminate some of its employees in order to save money.

Basic economics. Meanwhile rent is going up. Minimum wage going up doesn't actually help anyone. Lower rent would be nice.
Sadly that won't happen until zoning and housing laws change at a federal level, which isn't happening because real estate lobbying exists. So rent could only go down when America makes lobbying unconstitutional, which isn't happening because lobbyists are the people who pay everyone involved in the law -- our president, congress, governers, counsilmen, committees, courthouse, district offices, and the police.
Banning lobbying in America is about as realistic as confiscating existing guns from everyone and banning arms possession.

They small businesses need to have kids, they will keep it in family. That’s how my parents did. Went to college because we could afford to, now I don’t have to wash dishes, peel shrimp or cut vegetables.
This is great news. It's more of a reason to stop eating this garbage.
Most college grads will never rise above restaurant worker , we must make it liveable wage #VoteBlue
Maybe we could look into why so many people are paying money for an education that qualifies them for fast food employment and nothing more. Yeah the education system isn't about employment it's all about indoctrination. Your a commie now and you don't even know it. Minimum wage is for beginners , not for the skilled trained or educated. The system failed you intentionally to make you dependent on governments for your survival. You are screwed because the free ride won't last for long.
Where are the robots...
The workers get a higher wage then fall into a higher tax bracket. Zero gain.
