  • I have a super short video today on the Plumosa or Asparagus Fern! I got this plant well over a year ago and it's proven to be way tougher than it's confusing Fern name. Because it's not actually a FERN. I know, I'm lost as well. I hope this short baby video helps you along on your not-fern journey. Please comment with questions and thanks for watching!

And I've been meaning to look up it's light and water preferences all this time cuz I kinda been guessing, so your video is very helpful. A very resilient, chill plant indeed. 🌿

    You're so damn funny, love your energy! I managed to save my plumosa because I grew green fingers from nowhere a few years ago. This year with fertilization for the first time it started shooting out new "branches", and the last addition is a 1m tall guy that very shamelessly shot up in a matter of days and climbed & circled up my blinds-string. So I guess he doesn't want to move anytime soon.. I'll be more mindful with not overwatering after your warning, thank you!

    loved this video!! so helpful. unfortunately about 3 weeks ago i left mine alone for a month while i was traveling and i came back to it being completely brittle and bone dry😭😭 turned almost yellowish brown:( ive been trying to revive it ever since without overwatering it and it seems to keep growing but it is still a dark yellow color😓 i cut off some of the most brown stems so the plant wouldnt be putting more energy into those dead parts- but how can i get it back to being green again? or is it too far gone.

  • @Uiladoru

    They are indeed such a chill plant to have around! :3 Well said everything you did!
    I even overwatered mine, but it still survived ! And its pushing out new growth since the beginning of summer. which is crazy, its almost November and it shot out half a meter long new leaf over the past two weeks! THe heck!!!? But yeah, its a great grower, and at some point in September i also saw that it starter shooting new branches out of existing leafs!? I was so surprised! :3
    And yeah, the roots are much thicker than those fine thin ones fern have. so yeah. :3

    • @Macksimize100
      @Macksimize100  4 роки тому

      hello! So glad the info helped! 😁 I wouldn't say spraying it is BAD but the Plumosa fern isn't like other ferns (since it's technically not a fern at all!) and doesn't need as high of humidity as others. So you really don't have to spray them if you don't feel like it haha

    Hi, I am from Croatia and we have these plants everywhere. When we go to pick asparagus in the spring, they grow right next to this ferny bush. This plant I usually see in shady areas, at the base of trees. They can live in dry soil for a while, as it gets really hot here in summer.

    Hahahaha dude you're funny! Totally love your sense of humor! Glad I found you! I have a teeny tiny one I got from Lowes and been researching since. I heard they light slightly acidic soil.... so... gonna experiment with that. Just gonna use some diluted coffee grounds. Have you got a maiden hair fern?? Ugh.

    You say Fish fertilizer, what kind, and what do you use exactly? I recently picked one of these guys up and I repotted because the plant was pushing roots from the bottom. I used indoor potting mix for this plant, I realize after watching this video that I overwatered so I'm gonna try and let the plant dry out. I'm kind of a beginner myself with plants but I was just wondering what I should do?

    • @Macksimize100
      @Macksimize100  4 роки тому +2

      I use this brand called “Alaskan Fish Fertilizer” - I see it at Home Depot every time and you can also order it on amazon if you’re hunkering down! 🙂 I put about a tsp in a gallon of water and give it to my plants every other watering cycle in their growing season (spring/summer) - but be warned - the fertilizer smells pretty bad...! So make sure when you water, you allow the water to run out the bottom to filter the fertilizer through a bit more - hope this helps!!

    Hi we have a huge asparagus fern flourishing on our landing but it has now 2 extremely long vines going nearly down to the first floor but with no leaves on them, why is this?
    Edit: and how/ can you propagate this plant?

    • @Macksimize100
      @Macksimize100  2 роки тому

      This is actually a vine! So makes sense it’s spreading its branches out. I have one growing outside my building that does the same thing. You have to separate from the roots if you want to propagate. I’ve never been able to get cuttings to root unfortunately 😬

    I just bought another one. Killed my first lil guy..well my cat did but I dont think I helped knowing now what I just learned Lol I def treated it as a fern since it was labeled as such. Also I have an asparagus fern (or least I thought it was) but he dont look anything like this guy. Hes in a hanging basket and his stems are like 3ft long and pine like look for the leaves lol best way to describe it.

      Yess I know the Asparagus Fern you're talking about! They are weirdly interchangeable names on the internet, I think everyone has them mixed up lol - it's even trickier when it's called a fern and isn't actually one! I'm sure this one will be a success though 👌

      Oh so true!
      I got a couple permanent scars and my arm last time I was pruning my hedge.
      Reached in to selectively snip a branch and didn’t see this was entangled in there, felt a sting and thought it was a bee...yanked my arm back and it embedded in my skin and tore 😫
      It’s in so many spots in my yard, grows up the trees. Ugh.
      I’ve dug out at 3-4 huge tangled messes of rootballs with my pitchfork. There’s still twice that many to go. You cut it...It keep coming back like a horror movie killer 😄
      It’s so pretty it’s a shame is so invasive and difficult to control and it’s nasty thorns.
