  • Amid our busy lives, getting out to enjoy doing what you're truly passionate about can be a challenge. That's been especially true for Neil and his wife, who welcomed a baby boy to the world 10 weeks ago. In this video, Neil brings us on his first overnighter since the arrival of his son and shares how important (and easy) it can be to break the cycle of routine and enjoy a night under the stars.

    I think the touring/bikepacking community needs more reminders like this one that it's not all about long-distance endurance hardcore trips and that most of us can enjoy geting out in the vicinity of out hometowns and get some quiet time. I do this type of overnighters very often in my Oslo/Norway backyard forests and it's such a battery charger for the upcoming week.

    • @mtwmbw
      @mtwmbw 2 роки тому +4

      Yes, absolutely. We need more of this type of content on our various feeds that we follow for bikepacking inspiration. We all need to be reminded that this type of adventure is every bit of as valid as biking across a continent.
      (Of course the adventure of parenting a two month old is a whole other category!)

      I was just thinking the same thing while watching the video. I have only camp out on long distance and never think about just an easy over nighter.

    • @PlainZ3r0
      @PlainZ3r0 2 роки тому

      A 100% agree! I ride just to get away for some quiet time and it does wonders to recharge my batteries. Sometimes not even an overnighter, but enough time away that I enjoy myself with my bike and break out the stove for a coffee or quick meal.

    Heading out to do exactly this tonight! Having kids made me work out how to sneak in quick overnighters during the work week. Nothing more satisfying than doing this from work at 5:00pm, riding 40km (in my case here in Perth, Australia) out to a hut in the hills, and being back at my desk by 9:00am the next day. Soooo good for the soul.

    Coffee lovers pro tip. Buy open ended tea bags with the tie string closure for loose leaf tea. Fill with your favorite coffee from home, same as what you had without having source a specialty item.

    Great overnighter. I agree. Those short trips help your soul. Getting away from computers, phones and people really help you refresh. Wish I could do more. I live close to Bear Creek Lake Park in Lakewood but the campsites are booked a year in advance. The sites in in the open on gravel and a fierce wind always runs along the foothills there. Had several harrowing nights camping there. lol

We live in GA by the Silver Comet trail, which is 100% paved, been thinking about riding some gravel to a campground, then back on the Comet as my first bikepacking trip.
