Ding & Gukesh have faced each other a total of 5 times. Thrice before 2023 World Championship & twice after. Results:
    Game 1 (Ding White); Draw
    Game 2 (Ding White); Draw
    Game 3 (Ding Black); Win
    Game 4 (Ding Black); Win
    Game 5 (Ding White); Draw
This shows that Ding hasn't lost to Gukesh yet & Gukesh had to use his maximum preparation in Candidates, whereas Ding had not to.
These are stats which do not conclude anything. Given Gukesh's recent form & Ding's unbeaten streak against Gukesh, this matchup becomes equally difficult to predict. All the best to both!

Gukesh is improving pretty much every single day while Ding has been getting worse ever since the world championship. I don't think their past games will have much impact.
It all depends on Gukesh's nerves and I don't think he will struggle. He handled being India's board 1 just fine which is at least as much pressure.
I expect the first 3 games will be close, Ding might even get a win, then Gukesh will dominate for the rest of the championship.

The first 2 games, however, is not in classical time formats. The first one is an online blitz game, not even recognized by FIDE. The second one is in a rapid game. In classical format standard chess, Gukesh has 2 losses and 1 draw against Ding liren in 3 games . So yes, Gukesh has never beaten Ding in classical chess. But you know what - even Fischer had never beaten Spassky before 1971 world championship, but had lost to Spassky a few times along with some draws. And even Spassky was known to have some mental issues. And even Magnus, I think, had a negative score against both Vishy and Nepo before their WC encounters. But that changed during world championships. So you can't draw too many conclusions from that H2H record.
In chess 960(rapid time control), however, Gukesh does have a win against DIng Liren. But I don't think that counts.
Anyway, as an Indian, I am hoping for a Gukesh victory. Ding has already won it and I am happy for that, but I hope it is Guki's time this time.

@@user-dy7qy9iy8f yeah, that doesn't conclude anything but Ding might have an edge over Gukesh in the first 2-3 games, he has to take them to have any chance of survival. Even if Gukesh manages a draw in the beginning games, it's a win for Gukesh.

I got Gukesh, because he has a significantly higher ELO rating and looks more locked in than Ding.

One should never underestimate the Ding Liren because he has still been one of the best undefeated and stronger player in the world championship,So if he defeated Ian Nepo like player for more time, how strong he is!!!,He must be prepared harder this time as well, Although I would love if Gukesh win the championship.

If I was to advise Ding's team, I would say play solid boring chess and play for the draw. Use openings that are known to produce dull open positions leading to safe draws, and he should just defend behind a heavily castled position and make Gukesh try all the risky attacks. Trade all active pieces early and stick to well known boring endgames which are likely to end in a draw. Then try and take out the Gukesh team in the rapid tie-breaks (like Ding did against Nepomniachtchi last time). Good luck both! It's a win for chess no matter who wins.
