Thanks for the great tips. Just bought a Husqvarna Te250i...my second bike. First was a Honda CRF 300L. Totally different filter maintenance on that rig. Wondering if someone can help me better understand how often it needs to be cleaned? I realize it depends on a number of factors, but if I am riding in very muddy and dusty environments for a couple hrs at a time, after roughly how many rides should it be cleaned/replaced? I don't know how to tell how dirty it should look before doing so. Also... dealership told me it's easier to just buy around 3 new filters for each season - wondering opinions on that. Thanks

email for more details and our google doc that has links to all -- There is not # of rides-- it all depends on Dirt Etc-- it could be one hour or 10hrs- yes have ing a few filters is nice to so you have a clean one ready to go and clean the dirty ones at the same time.

I have two air filters, when one is dirty I put it in a bucket of water and Dove dish soap for the week. The other I use KTM oil and install it in the bike. Once I'm ready to change them out, the other goes in a fresh water and Dove dish soap. It's so easy and works perfect!

Moto Minded also makes a plastic disk that goes on the tip of your filter to prevent it from getting worn through. It is quite cheap and effective. You can also buy filters that are flame resistant if you want to run without a screen and are concerned.

Glad that you explained why we used to run grease on the filter. For me in the newer bikes I’ve never run it I see no reason to use it in fact I see more problems with it or just introducing more stuff to fall off later when you remove the filter. Of course you’re going to clean the airbox anyhow but why make it even more difficult. as you mentioned, The seal is very good nowadays and there’s no way that air is going to pass through.

using Maxima, is K&N and Lucas just as good?
I like the spout on the Lucas container, then I
see that Jay doesn't open the Maxima top fully,
just punched a bit of a slit in it, I guess that would
work just as well as a dedicated spout.

Im not sure the type of grease actually matters.. I assume a really tacky one would be better. But the oil used in this video has a component in it keeping it liquidy and that evaporates away. When it does the oil becomes so tacky that i dont think grease is necessary. The oil will stick to the sealing surface really well
