"Modern ballet is unimaginable without Mikhail Fokin.⚘⚘ Today is his Memorial Day.
At the beginning of the 20th century ballet was going through a tough time, many believed, that this art form was dying.😞 Dance needed a new Creator and Mikhail Fokin became such a choreographer for Russian ballet. 👏👏👏His art changed the concept of classical dance and gave ballet a new impetus to development. He suggested to create not a single dance, but a holistic composition, in which music, plastic and scenery were harmonically combined. He revived the male dance, which had almost completely disappeared by that time. One of his most famous ballets is “The Dying Swan” - a solo dance, created special for Anna Pavlova to Camille Saint-Saen’s music. Due to the fusion of the sound and the choreography, this miniature is considered as the embodiment of tenderness, vulnerability and beauty. Every time I contact with Fokin’s immortal choreography, which is a symbol of Russian Ballet, I feel awe and delight...❤🌞" - Розваги
Wow. Extraordinary. Truly the only dying swan that's moved me yet. This solo is so hard to do well. It often just looks corny or melodramatic -- and it's so hard to get those 'wings' right.-- but her arms are liquid. And she totally inhabits the part. Exquisite.
Then you should see the one and only Maya Plisetskaia. Soul!

@@theworldinheels You couldn't be more right, Maya is absolutely the ultimate swan. Had the privilege to see her in '88 at Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, a rare sight to behold. I don't think I'll ever see another one in my lifetime.
Her arms looked like the wings of a swan! I’m astounded by her.
I've seen many performances of Dying Swan. No one comes close to Zakharova. She looks like she's gliding on ice or suspended mid-air while other ballerinas hobble and shuffle their way around the stage. I love the way she takes her time. Ethereal, vulnerable, poetic, and soulful.
Have you seen Uliana Lopatkina? I think no one managed to perform this dance better than her. Even Plisetskaya.

@@alsusha6051 My friend, I'm ballerina also. And I'm agree fully with you. Ulyana Lopatkina is the Queen of Russia/ The Planet/The Universe? Who knows? I have the honour of know her and she's my inspiration. She is the Swan for excellence. I love Maya Plisetskaya, but with all my respects, Ulyana Lopatkina is the best, the Queen of Ballet. To watch her dancing is to travel to another world. ❤️🌹

I truly believed that I was watching a dying swan. I’ve never seen this dance captured so well. So moving that it brought me to tears. Beautiful, Svetlana.
Her arms are insane! Never seen anyone look like they actually have wings and look so effortlessly and smooth... I’m amazed!!
I've seen dozens of Swan Lakes over the years. Her Odette is the epitome of breath taking. She makes me weep.
Agreed but this isn't from that and I don't think the Dying Swan suits her. Plisetskaya is truly the best IMO.
No. No. No. Neither. Mme P was the Sarah Bernhardt of ballet. Mme Z is lovely, yes. Both interpretations have become cliched compared to several of today’s dancers. IMHO.

seriously, for the past seven years I've visited four russian Swan Lake perfomances and none of them ended like the original😣
I'm upset to the core 'cause in my opinion this is the most amazingly beautiful and important scene....
I'm not surprised you have not seen this performed when watching Swan Lake performed by Russian ballet as it is not from swan lake but from Saint saens ' carnival of the animals '.
The Dying Swan is not from Swan Lake, the two are actually separate ballets. Dying Swan is a solo ballet that was choreographed specifically for Anna Pavlova, with music from Saint-Saens' carnival of the animals
As a student of culture, and the arts, this piece is an absolute art, nobody can do this quite like the beautiful ballerina here, she expressed forlornness, beauty, pain and grace through this wonderful ballet segment of Swan Lake, simply beautiful and majestic, no this is classic art through the art of ballet. The movement is perfect.
You call yourself "a student of culture and the arts" and has the audacity of saying that The Dying Swan is part of the Swan Lake ballet? Inform yourself more and study harder so in the future you are not called out for something so horrendous to say. And although Svetlana does a superb job in this piece, none can forget the absolute prima ballerina Maya Plisetskaya performing the piece. Every ballerina brings something to any ballet they dance so it becomes a matter of taste according to what we want to see.

This beings actual tears to my eyes by the very last moment her arms make at the end. Breathtaking.

My ballet teacher, in the 1960's, had studied and danced alongside Pavlova at the Imperial Ballet School and saw her dance this piece when it was first performed. She crafted wonderful little ballets on we her students, many years later, and I also credit her as my first music teacher for all she taught me about listening and developing a deeper understanding of the score.
I love how she stays in character as the beautiful, dying swan for the curtain call.

Absolutely breathtaking!!! This was my daughter’s wedding song. Just a beautiful classical piece to walk down the aisle. This ballet solo is completely mesmerizing to watch! However, Svetlana encompasses this piece perfectly… like an elegant, beautiful swan. 🦢

Honestly, I know nothing about ballet, I’ve never done it, never even tried it, but this is GORGEOUS. Her facial expressions were so emotional it was like she really was that dying swan trying so hard to fly one last time. And her arms were like the most graceful balloon man I’ve ever seen XD but seriously, so gorgeous and graceful!

Svetlana Zakharova is not Russian. She is Ukrainian, born in Ukraine, studied in Ukraine until she went to Vaganova, Ukrainian blood. She is Ukrainian.

All right. Although I don't care if she's Ukrainian or Russian. Of course, I know that these two nations are not the same, but still they are brothers, that cannot be denied. However , Zakharova learned to dance in Russia. Peace. 🤞
@Granger OOI Please don't be so nice, you make me feel bad for correcting you 😊. I wish Russia and Ukraine could be, but, alas, no longer. Putin has taken care of that 😔. Yes, Zakharova did go to Vaganova for some time, but she started ballet in Ukraine and went to the Kyiv Choreographic Academy. You are correct though, she studied in Russia.
