What I love about this piece is that there aren't any big flashy moves, turns, etc. it's not about showing off, it's about exquisite technique, making sure every detail is perfect, and above all else expressing the character. In my eyes, this is possibly the greatest piece in all of ballet

Yes. And Plisetskaya and Makarova too. Pavlova's was a realistic animal (truly resembled a bird agonizing). Makarova brought the raw emotion through movement back, while Plisetskaya was the first to give the piece this White Swan feeling, this delicate sadness

This is so subdued, so introverted, so absolutely perfect- she makes you forget that she is a person and not an actual swan. I have never been a ballet enthusiast but I found this video and this dancer by accident because I had heard of the dying swan, knew its sad music and thought I'd have a look for fun. It has been an amazing discovery. I was riveted by this dancer from beginning to end, to start with by what seems to be the impossibility of the continuous beating of her legs. Second amazement, the finesse and fluidity of her arm movements and her gestures. I was trying not to sob by half way through, but at the end I just burst and cried. I am still emotional writing this. Just as well I can't type in my tears. Epoustouflant! What emotion! Magnificent dancer! Thank you so much, uploader, for making my day..

I have never seen this ending but it blew me away. I have seen Swan Lake, twice. I believe both endings were a happy ending. The Wizard didn't have his wing torn off. Odette didn't die like this. The music was really powerful as well. Spellbound by this.

For those who understand the sequence of the choreography in this piece, this is perfection. Of course there are variations in interpretation but this is the gold standard.
A fantastic piece of art. I refuse to believe that we, as humans, can't do this every day and present ourselves artfully all the time. This is masterful. Uliana Lopatkina, this lady has grace like I’ve never seen. As if she knows every inch of curve in her limbs, and every muscle in her body follows her every mental command! Her grace is so visible in every movement of her arms, legs, ankles, and toes! The music and her body are one! So Awesome! I’m so moved and heartbroken watching her. My daughter was on Pointe, at 8 or 9 yrs old, broke her ankle, and Doctor told her she has locked ankles and can’t continue. 😪 Uliana is so Beautiful and so graceful! Ulyana Lopatkina is my favorite ballet dancer. She is the best in the world.
A fantastic piece of art. I refuse to believe that we, as humans, can't do this every day and present ourselves artfully all the time. This is masterful. I am in tears when the conductor presents the orchestra I only wish that we were orchestrated as such everyday. I love this and truly believe that this beauty is alive in everyone of us. Superb!

Uliana Lopatkina, this lady has grace like I’ve never seen. As if she knows every inch of curve in her limbs, and every muscle in her body follows her every mental command! Her grace is so visible in every movement of her arms, legs, ankles, and toes! The music and her body are one! So Awesome!
I’m so moved and heartbroken watching her. My daughter was on Pointe, at 8 or 9 yrs old, broke her ankle, and Doctor told her she has locked ankles and can’t continue. 😪

This is absolutely breathtaking. The cellist is also completely stunning. I'm just blown away. This is the best interpretation I've ever seen or heard.
You are 100% correct. Yes, the BEST "Dying Swan" EVER. And that is saying a lot because there have been tens of thousands of them. Lopatkina has found something extra inside herself that sets this apart from all the rest. Her swan is not overwrought like so many others. Most today border on parody. This interpretation has a quiet resignation to it that highlights her beauty as a ballerina. Truly breathtaking and to say "the best ever" is no overstatement. Cellist included. Gorgeous playing and so in sync with the dancer. I no longer enjoy watching this solo and avoid it always. But, I was looking for video of Lopatkina, of which there is too little, and found this. Glad I did.

Hi! Elena Taylor. As a ballerina & ballet's lover, Yes. I have heard, I have seen her dancing (in videos, of course), not only dancing Dying Swam, but also The Dragonfly and others. I have seen many documentals about her & ever have read her biography...I love Anna Pavlova & her love for the swans that she had in a lake at her garden & like a great russian ballerina. Thanks.
