- Francesca Hayward and Cesar Corrales perform the Act II pas de deux from Swan Lake as part of The Royal Ballet: Live - Within the Golden Hour. Watch On Demand until 13 December 2020 stream.roh.org.uk/packages/th...
Swan Lake is an eternal tale of doomed love and is arguably the best-known and most-loved classical ballet. Tchaikovsky’s first score for ballet soars with its symphonic sweep and combines perfectly with exquisite choreography by Lev Ivanov and John Macfarlane’s magnificent designs. An intoxicating mix of spectacle and intimate passion, the overall effect is irresistible.
The Royal Ballet: Live - Within the Golden Hour begins with a varied selection of excerpts and set pieces and concludes with Artistic Associate Christopher Wheeldon’s ballet of shimmering beauty, Within the Golden Hour.

Shoutout to that amazing violinist who did the scale runs from the bottom octave- this is a really tricky solo!!
shoutout to the harpist.
shoutout to the casts and the whole orchestra for doing a great job.
Yes, so beautifully played.
Very
Good
Indeed.👍👍👍💝
@@nellycouderq3868 as a harpist that made me smile.
Francesca is so beautiful, her facial expression, her hands, her legs, her feet, everything is just perfect
She is such a graceful and elegant dancer. However I feel Cesar Corrales will never fully fit a strong romantic lead role. He is a dynamic dancer; far better as a soloist, the more characterful and energetic the part, the better. I found it impossible to be absorbed in this interpretation of Romeo and Juliet, which is my favourite ballet.
I love how everyone becomes an expert critic in the youtube comment section
@Weird Content Guaranteed and even if they don't, they are still entitled to their opinion. Thinking that only experts are allowed to have an opinion makes little sense since their are hundreds and even thousands (depending on the theatre) of people pay to witness this artform. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, wheter that beholder is an "expert" or not.
Every company has their own different style and interpretations, so you can't really compare them.
@@isobelduncan And surely critiquing is half the fun. And most of us have been followers of the ballet for many years-for me since 1953.
😂👏🏻👏🏻Soooo true what you say!
I've been in the business for 40 years. I know.
My favorite ballet ever! My son said “I could do what he’s doing.” What Cesar does is so much harder than it looks. Francesca is nothing but grace and elegance. I could watch this 1,000 and never get tired of it
SAME!
How old is your son? He cant be that dumb unless he's a kid
I could do what he's doing

She really does look as if she’s about to take flight at any moment. Captivating!
With limited opportunities to perform before a live audience this year, this is a beautiful and most welcome display. Lovely, and well done Royal Ballet, indeed the show must go on.
May be it's not "perfect" as some people has written (for me it is) but it's far from robotic. The best thing of their excellent performance is that it is easy to understand what they are saying to each other and what are their feelings. Their expressions are wonderful. It is like reading a book and imagine the delicate movements of the loving couple. It's a dream.
I totally get it. I mean, I can see some spots where it looks a bit off or wobbly or not as effortless as one might expect.... but how am I gonna sit here and criticize it when I've never taken a single dance lesson (unless you count a square dance I went to once). I'm in no position to do anything but admire.
Royal Ballet is a house of so many talented people.
Ok, those trust falls close to 3 minutes🤯🤯😍💗
Hi!
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing
IK! It’s like they happen in slow motion
Ughhggghhhh so beautiful icant
Shout out to the violinist!
This was beautiful - the exquisite control and storytelling of both dancers and a fantastic orchestra. 👏🏻👏🏻
I love Francesca and I like seeing new dancers such as Cesar here. It was beautiful but I think they’re both still growing in their partnership. I don’t need the high extensions and the artistry is certainly there - just needs more time and maybe trust from both. The RB has set the bar so high with their principals. Excited to see this pair in future performances. 😊🩰
I could't have said it better!
Totally agree! What's wrong with her extensions?
Wow. The control is off the charts. Especially by the ballerina.
These two manage to connvey so much emotion with their mesmerizing performance. Simply breathtaking! So happy this was put online for all to see and treasure.
A beautiful pairing. So in tune together. Lovely interpretation of Odette-soft, gentle, but not soppy, and no over-emoting which can be grotesque. Hope this will continue to be fine-tuned by both.
I can't wait to see Frankie dance the full-length performance. Her sense of character is wonderful. I love how you can feel Odette's 'angst' about the risk of trusting the prince in Hayward's interpretation of the PDD. I think other dancers often portray Odette as a little too soft/tranquil for someone who has so much at stake. I'm excited to see both dancers gain more confidence and fine tune their performance, but this is a great start for first-time Swan Lake leads.
After watching hundreds of Swan Lakes over decades I found this interpretation so fresh and incredibly moving. Bravo to these young dancers.
Her phrasing and her attack are reminiscent of Fonteyn (very British), but the shapes she creates, the lines she forms, the choreographic choices she makes, and that singing, perpetually moving quality of her movement are reminiscent of Makarova. Best of all, no ear high, head whacking extensions. Just simple, unaffected artistry, and a spark of theatrical genius that will only burn brighter as Hayward matures.
Wow... That was simply amazing. I loved how they made the stage look so small. Also... Being alone on it, it pulls you into their world, like they see it. In that moment nothing else exists but them. Applause for Francesca and Cesar and also the violinist. Bravo
A beautiful partnership, they draw you in into their emotional performance , they are very connected. I was lucky enough to see them perform in Romeo and Juliet ,the audience was very moved. I had tickets to see them in Swan Lake so I am very grateful to see this performance online, I hope to see them perform live in Swan Lake. Both are beautiful dancers, watch Caesars performance as Ali in Le Corsair when with ENB, superb. A perfect partnership.
I’ve seen Swan lake so many times and possibly got a bit bored of it, but this pairing brought completely new life to it for me. I feel like I’m watching too young people, stuck in sad circumstances, genuinely getting to know each other and fall in love. The technique is exceptional, but getting the feeling across is a true talent ❤️
A performance of phenomenal beauty. I have never heard such an amazing interpretation of this great music. Not fussy. Majestically.
Tchaikovsky would be pleased.
This year wasn't easy for the dancers!! (COVID 19)They worked so hard for this, and they performed it beautifully! Good job Royal Ballet!
Потрясающе!Все движения наполнены смыслом.Именно такой балет,а не просто акробатику,хочется видеть сегодня
That was exquisite, thank you! I don't think I've ever seen a ballerina look so weightless in lifts - the little delay in her arms as she landed - so beautiful 💕💕
This is a wonderful beautiful performance of this piece of Swan Lake. It is so pure, so lovely done and very touching.
Could watch this beautiful dance forever 💜 Adore their gracefulness and elegance x
Cesar Corrales orgullo Mexicano !! 🇲🇽 ❤️ making us proud
I really wish I had chosen dance over gymnastics. I am too short and not flexible to do it now but I have always respected ballet. Wow. She is a beautiful angel.
Francesca just was wonderful and so delicated. Finally someone to adore.
СОВЕРШЕНСТВО!!! БРАВО!!!👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏
Francesca is majestic and magnetic as usual (and I'm on the verge of tears, as usual).
Thank you so much for sharing!
The TEARS STREAMING DOWN MY FACE......FRANCESCA IS SO GORGEOUS.SO LOVELY SEEING A LADY OF COLOUR GIVEN A CHANCE.....CONGRATULATIONS ROYAL BALLET....TO STUNNING 😍😍🤩🤩🤩
I didn't even realise she was a lady of colour, just an incredible dancer
@@pollyparrot8759 same here! And why keep labelling? I see them as dancers, artistry, techniques, storytelling.... ROH doesn’t need to “sell” colour stories to sell tickets and that a differentiater. Well done ROH!!!
@@RockyScience Absolutely! A wonderful ballerina, Stop! He is lovely too!
Yes, born in Nairobi, Kenya to a black African mother and white English father.
This is a rather slow but very expressive interpretation. In particular the last section where the swan and the prince so beautifully interpret the violin and cello intertwining and singing together. Ahhhh
Gorgeous. Francesca Hayward dances the swan so beautifully. Fantastic x
There’s something so otherworldly and divine about the ballet❤❤ it’s like the gods themselves spoke through composers at one point and these very talented people r there to make the music dance❤❤
A work of art forever. Thank you, Tchaikovsky!
Beautiful young couple. I love replaying this on my tablet or laptop while chilling at a cafe. It's such a stress reliever.
La perfection de chaque étape est si complexe et belle alors qu’un livre ne suffirait pas à décrire sa perfection inégalée.
Music straight from Heaven - no other description is possible.
Extraordinary grace and emotive. Never since Margot have I seen such tender expression between the dancers; no over extensions, truly gentle with awesome interpretation and magical skill. What perfection!! What joy these young dancers have. Truly, perfect
Another beautiful performance from Francesca this is not the first one that brought me to tears
Krásne pre oči aj srdiečko. Veľmi pekné zatancovali. Ďakujem a prajem Vám veľa úspechov.
Absolutely lovely! Artistry and acting given as much prominence as technique and producing the effect that should be produced, i.e. touching the emotions of the viewer. So wonderfully assisted by the marvellous violinist as well! Thank you.
Absolutely beautiful, music, dancing, costumes - everything. More please!!
Beautiful ! Thanks a lot for sharing this jewel ! Congratulations to Miss Hayward and Mr. Corrales. Greetings from México.
Incredible violin solo!!! Bravo.
oh my god, i am so stunned. the music, the dancers, the emotion, all of it is so beautiful and overwhelming. thank you so much for posting this :')
WOW! I was so immersed and socked in.
Omg i love this piece of perfection so much ❤️
We are so incredibly rich and lucky to be able to listen to this where and when we want!
The best of all I have watched. Breathtakingly beautiful!
Such elegance! What a pleasure to behold....
Breathtaking. They are both exquisite artists.
Waow simply amazing, this is the only way I am capable to watch these types of classical ballet. Thank you Royal Opera House
Frankie kind of looks like Natalie Portman in some angles, and as always, what great dancing! The Royal Ballet never disappoints
Такое единение с музыкой! Супер танцоры!
All I see is Francesca!! Beautiful, elegant, heart stopping beauty ❤️❤️
This was so beautiful to watch it took my breath away... Pure beauty ❤️😍

Perfection. Such a beautiful interpretation.
Thank you 🙏 for an intimate and delicate portrayal of the most beautiful of all pas de deux by this young, fresh and gorgeous couple. Completely entranced. Just stunning. Francesca and Cesar forever!
I am watching this amazing performance over and over. More videos with Francesca please. I' ve seen her in Sleeping Beauty last week. She is fantastic.
Such a perfect pair, at one with the music.
Son extraordinarios gracias por compartir tu talento me encantan
Absolutely beautiful
Love, love, love every second...
Absolutely mind-blowing! She was born to dance. I saw her perform in Romeo and Juliet live and was in complete awe of her talent.
Amazing Performance loved it
They reflect emotions very well🫶 For a moment I felt as if I lived it myself
This is a VERY slow tempo rhythm that NATALIA MAKAROVA filled with emotion and magic. Natasha would have been the perfect choice to coach this young girl in this dress rehearsal. Her lines are beautiful. Corrales's partnering world-class.
Young,Talented and Beautiful.
I will listen to this song every morning of my life
Going to see Lauren dancing this Friday…..
Now that is going to be something!
I know nothing about ballet but i was amazed by the control and the elegance at 1:43 😮
Cada falange, cada tendón, cada nervio cuenta una historia... un amor idílico.
Supreme grace and control 🎉 with beautiful violin 🎉
Strength effort intensity precision beauty grace love to see it all ❤
Just saw Swan Lake at the Thrasher Horne in Orange Park. If you can do parts like these, you're in ballet immortality. Best ballet show I have been to.
Perfect work of dancers.Nothing more to say....
This is so graceful and beautiful ❤
Very beautiful and harmonious! You feel mostly the technical Touch to perfection! S.F.
Ballet is an art that takes years to bring to a canvas. Lot of talent.
The way the guy's chilling throughout the entire dance while the woman's legs must be shaking from exhaustion
Muy hermosa danza, que sentimientos más bellos éxitos para todos.. Excelente en todo 👏 muy admirable.. 😊 😊 😊 Éxitos en sus trabajos buenas vibras..

There's something very honest, natural and unique about Francesca's interpretations!
Truly beautiful.
Stunning dancers.

They look so beautiful together. I wonder if they are real couple outside this. The music. The dress. Everything is just so magical.
She moves like a real Swan! That's so great!
