I went through similar issue with camper trailer with protecting the water tank. I ended up using gal sheet but when on the Oodnadatta track the sheet protecting the hoses got smashed to pieces by rocks on the track. I think the truck mud flaps are most likely the best option. Look forward to the next episode. Cheers Adam
Thanks that reminds me I want to do something with my van water tank for protection. That first rubber should work I will enough think. Truck mud flaps will look pretty neat I think. I'm also considering led lights on them. Have to figure that one out first. Thanks mate.
An interesting idea To get more protection could you stick the rubber out further than the RHS on the ends ? Would possibly give a softer end for bumping as well
I did try it with thinner stuff originally, but on the first trip away , it just tore to shreds and didn't survive. That's when I went with the heavier stuff. I will get around to running some under the water tank etc one day to protect it like you have. one day ......
Just brought a stone stomper and fitted it to my van very good product but a bit dearer than your set up well done mate just subscribed to your channel cheers 👍🍻🇦🇺
Hey Amos,v welcome aboard mate. I didn't think I really needed something until I started seeing the dents on the front of my little van. It was a good enough excuse for me to have a crack. How you can still get around Qld for some travels. NSW is starting to get squeezed again. Bloody Covid.
@@DENMONKEY hi mate I done a trip up to my uncle's pub in NT and went across the plenty Hway to Alice springs and destroyed the front of my caravan and got tha shits sold the van after only having it 4 months and brought a Vivid Explorer full of road and thought I'm not fukn the front of another new van so i purchase the stone stomper but after fitting it in 15 minutes my van is just sitting here because I'm a caretaker on a property West of Longreach and just parked up in a shed but I'll be ready when i do move onto the next property cheers mate 👍🍻🇦🇺
Hi Marc, it has worked out well, I was getting regular stone dents each time I went out and I haven't noticed any new ones since I made this. It had worked just as expected. I use it every time I go out.
Sorry, the product on retail market, Rock Tamer that you are reproducing doesn't actually work on gravel roads to protect your caravan or trailer. Product Stone Stomper works though. I am not criticizing your version, just the product function in general. You can see negative reviews on UA-cam, the failure in principle of product design and the damaged caravans as a result of using product on long drives on gravel roads.
All good Steve. I'm not delicate mate. Granted it hasn't done much work with Covid and all that silliness so I can only speak of my limited experience with it since making it and when using it, i didn't note any additional dents on the front like I did when not using it. Even a minor improvement is still an improvement. But thanks for the comment, reminds me I need to get it out more.
How funny is the dog?? Priceless!
He was a beauty

Where did you source your rubber from? Cheers.
Loved your dog. He helped out so much lovely video

I used 9mm conveyor belt..cheap and really strong. Also used it under my camper trailer to protect plumbing, wiring and grease nipples.

Excellent. Thanks heaps especially what worked and what didnt.
Cheers Marc. Most of what I do is trial and error. Sometimes more error 😁
Great video and puppy approved. Loved it
Glad you enjoyed it
Could I use gym tile rubber from Bunnings as the rubber mudflaps??
Good stuff, I hope it works well for you. Cheers Steve

You may want to think about an editor exhaust to exit out the side not directly into the mud flap might be an idea
Cheers
I was thinking of adding a tip to it to take it out the side a little.
@DENMONKEY what size U bolt did you use ?
umm good question. it just needs to be a smidge over 2 inches to fit over the hitch
This looks like a good project and neat solution. How successful have you found the protection. Thanks in advance, Marc

Wet the rubber easier to cut
where were you 2 years ago Derek :)
LOL go to a metal shop won't be 20 bucks 🤣 and will be thinker.
People that only go to bunnings are so funny 😂
But I like Bunnings
Hi we’re do you live I’d love to come to your house and have coffee with you and have a look at your caravan + I am your biggest fan
That's dammed nice of you. Steve also says he's my biggest fan. When he was adding 160kg, I think he may well be right
So can I come over...????
