in order to keep the lines from the ruler you must..... go to the "view tab" along the top tool bar... {View > Guides> Lock Guides} that way your ruler guide lines will not disappear!

You should divide the art into 3 parts with guide lines. Let the side portion be half the size of the middle portion.

so tried to do this and got to minute 1:14 where you delete the rectangles, for me it deletes the lines from the ruler aswell
