    Step 1: Introspection
Reflect on your purpose and how you want to add value in the tech industry:
Consider your passions, interests, and the areas of technology that excite you.
Identify the problems you want to solve or the impact you want to make through technology.
Evaluate your soft skills, hard skills, and domain expertise:
Soft skills: Assess your communication, problem-solving, teamwork, and leadership abilities. Identify areas for improvement and determine how these skills align with the tech industry.
Hard skills: Evaluate your current technical skills and identify areas where you excel or need further development. This could include programming languages, data analysis, UX/UI design, cybersecurity, or cloud computing.
Domain expertise: Determine if you have knowledge or experience in specific industries or domains that can be leveraged in the tech industry. This could include healthcare, finance, e-commerce, or marketing.
Use the "five value drivers" chart provided as a resource to identify potential career paths:
The chart categorizes roles in the tech industry based on five value drivers: Build, Sell, Operate, Support, and Manage.
Evaluate which value drivers align with your skills, interests, and goals.
Research specific job titles and responsibilities within each value driver category to gain a deeper understanding.
Participate in the "Break into Tech in 2023 Workshop" for guidance and tips:
Attend workshops, webinars, or conferences focused on helping individuals transition into the tech industry.
These events provide valuable insights, networking opportunities, and advice from industry professionals.
    Step 2: Upskill
Identify one or two roles you are interested in transitioning into:
Based on your introspection and research, narrow down the roles that align with your skills and interests.
Consider job titles such as software engineer, data scientist, product manager, UX designer, cybersecurity analyst, or AI specialist.
Assess your skills gap and determine if your current skills can be transferred to the desired roles:
Compare the skills required for your target roles with your existing skill set.
Identify the gaps that need to be filled to be competitive in the job market.
If additional upskilling is required, consider options like:
Self-paced online courses: Platforms like Coursera, Udemy, and edX offer a wide range of courses on various tech topics.
Boot camps: Intensive coding boot camps or specialized programs can provide hands-on training in a short period.
Four-year degree: Pursuing a degree in computer science or a related field can provide a comprehensive education and open doors to opportunities.
Begin with free courses and resources to test your interest and suitability for the chosen career path:
Many online platforms offer free introductory courses that can give you a taste of different tech disciplines.
Explore coding tutorials, online communities, and forums to get a sense of the tech industry's culture and challenges.
Reach out to professionals on LinkedIn to gain insights into their experiences:
Connect with professionals who are currently working in your target roles or in the tech industry in general.
Ask for informational interviews or mentorship opportunities to learn from their experiences and gain valuable advice.
Gain hands-on experience through freelancing or participating in hackathons:
Freelancing: Take on freelance projects or offer your services on platforms like Upwork or Freelancer to build practical skills and create a portfolio.
Hackathons: Participate in hackathons, which are events where individuals or teams collaborate intensively to create innovative tech solutions. This provides an opportunity to work on real-world problems and showcase your abilities.
    Step 3: Take Responsibility
Take initiative and be responsible for your own learning and development:
Stay curious and continuously seek opportunities to learn new technologies and industry trends.
Explore online resources, tech blogs, podcasts, and online communities to stay updated.
Focus on building practical skills, projects, and portfolios:
Create a personal website or GitHub repository to showcase your projects and code samples.
Undertake personal projects that align with your career goals to demonstrate your abilities and passion.
Consider options like freelancing, but prioritize collaborative work in a team setting:
Freelancing can provide valuable experience but also seek opportunities to work in a team environment.
Collaborative projects allow you to develop teamwork and communication skills, which are highly valued in the tech industry.
Participate in hackathons to gain hands-on experience, solve real business problems, and showcase your abilities:
Join hackathons either virtually or in person.
Collaborate with teammates, brainstorm ideas, and develop prototypes or working solutions.
These events provide networking opportunities and exposure to potential employers.
Winning a hackathon can boost your resume and attract attention from tech companies:
Focus on developing a viable and innovative solution during the hackathon.
If your team wins or receives recognition, highlight this achievement on your resume and LinkedIn profile.
    Step 4: Job Hunting
Tailor your resume for specific roles and apply to relevant job openings:
Customize your resume to highlight the skills, experiences, and projects that are most relevant to the job you're applying for.
Emphasize your transferable skills and any relevant certifications or degrees.
Aim to apply to 5-8 jobs per day:
Consistency is key when job hunting, so set a daily goal for the number of applications you submit.
Tailor each application to the specific job requirements and company culture.
Prepare a solid answer to the question, "Tell me about yourself," highlighting your educational journey, career experience, and reasons for transitioning:
Craft a concise and compelling narrative that highlights your relevant experiences and the skills you bring to the table.
Emphasize your passion for technology and your motivation for transitioning into the tech industry.
Practice the STAR method for answering behavioral interview questions (Situation, Task, Action, Result):
Prepare examples that demonstrate your problem-solving, teamwork, and leadership skills.
Structure your answers using the STAR method to provide clear and concise responses.
Be prepared for multiple interview rounds, including behavioral and technical assessments:
Technical interviews may involve coding challenges, system design discussions, or data analysis problems.
Prepare by reviewing fundamental concepts, practicing coding exercises, and seeking feedback from experienced developers.
Negotiate job offers and don't settle for the initial offer:
Research industry salary ranges and consider factors like location, company size, and benefits.
Be prepared to negotiate your salary and other terms of employment to ensure a fair and competitive package.
Stay updated on industry trends, such as AI and blockchain, and consider incorporating them into your skill set:
Keep track of emerging technologies and industry trends to stay relevant.
Upskill in areas that are in high demand and align with your career goals.
Build your professional network and actively engage with others during your transition into the tech industry:
Attend tech events, join online communities, and participate in industry-specific forums.
Networking can lead to valuable connections, mentorship opportunities, and job referrals.
Remember, breaking into the tech industry requires dedication, continuous learning, and perseverance. Stay proactive, embrace challenges, and keep refining your skills to increase your chances of success.

Love it , hearing it all, now breaking into tech how should we actually start? I know what I want to do, but is it best to go to school, take classes, how to get started today with a legit company that I don’t have to waste my time?

Sounds like “The craftmans mindset”. Focusing on the value you can bring to a job instead of asking what the job can get you. Also make a list of transferable skills and see where it fits in IT.

50,000 a year is my dream goal. Currently doing 30,000 a year as a remote pharm tech. Looking to maybe use the skills to get into tech. I make 17.00 an hour and I need it to be closer to 22-23 for comfort. But I live in one of the cheapest states in America. Still get an apartment for 600$ here. I’m wondering what job may get me closer to that mark while staying remote.

    • @speakupb

I genuinely wished that I found your video years before. But hey looking at the upload date. Hehe.
    Anyway, take aways
1- soft skills, hards skills, and domain expertise
2- hands on preference by companies
3- tailor resume to the applied role
4- Instead of freelance, do Hackaton, and solve real company problems, practice collaborative works, win something which is ideal in resume
5- STAR method during interview, integral part of interview
6- check TRENDS that happens now, i.e AI, Blockchain, emerging technologies
This has been such a compact less than 20 minutes real talk on "breaking into tech" that shifts my perspective. From the point of view of recruitor. You are a gem!
