The first game came out on ps2 and wasn't remarkably popular , it was only until the redemption title that it became as renouned as it is today while god of war had a consistent release schedule up until their norse saga .

Sucks GoW 1 and 2 is hard to access on the new gen consoles (ik GoW 1 and 2 is on ps now but its the worst way to play the game)
@@PeachBBX yeah I know! That’s the bad part they really need to do something about cuz it’s just 3 remastered that you can get on ps4/5 normal. Cuz yeah if you got anything going on with your bitrate/wifi and it’s not Ethernet direct in it’ll lag like crazy and that’s just no fun at all. So yeah definitely.

Dude. Seeing your excitement as he mentioned needing to dig up his past was GOLD. I’ve seen this game and played it so many times… this has been one of the best playthroughs Mati because you also played through the OG 3
I've seen maybe half a dozen playthroughs of this game and you were the first to do it right and play the original 3. Your face watching the blades scenes was all of our faces watching you watch them hahaha! Thank you for sharing your journey, man. What a ride and it's not over yet!!
I cant stress enough that kratos is one of the best characters in video game history
of all long running game franchises the fans of God of War impress me most. very rarely does someone spoil something and somehow I have yet to see anyone reveal the return of his blades. it's always satisfying watching that entire sequence from Kratos saying he needs to return home up until the combat with them.
Watching you put this off while you considered freeing the dragon was painful. What a moment in gaming, definitely one of the GOATs.
This is also why Atreus said at the start "but you told me never to go down there", because the blades were hidden down there all along.
Bro this was so good. Easily the best "Let's Player" I've seen, and I've watched a shit ton of LPs. Also love the fact that you pay attention to a lot of stuff. The amount of times I've seen people completely miss the giant ass bird in Helheim until mid fight is crazy. And like you said, playing through the OG games made this episode 10x better. Glad you did it and glad you enjoyed it. Easily the best LP I've watched in years.
I do feel bad for those who started the GoW games with the 2018 game; they can try to imagine the emotional weight of the boat scene, but never understand it totally. (And even if they started to play the older games after this one, you can have just one first time reaction to that scene.) I'm so glad you got to feel it at its fullest.
The Athena cameo and Blades of Chaos comeback was amazing.

Advice for balancing side quests and main content is do however much or however little side quests you want to the more fun you have the more fun we have
imo doing some of the less exciting side quests off camera and just showing us what you got could be cool and it would make the combat less exhausting bc you’d be doing more damage with your new gear

Like many of us here, I have been waiting for this moment ever since I first learned you were doing God of War. That sequence from Tyr's Temple to Kratos saying "I am your monster no longer" is absolute PEAK, and I don't imagine it could hit anywhere near as hard if you weren't the legend that you are having done the original trilogy first. This game is freaking incredible, and how they introduced the blades puts it right up there at the very, very top of gaming with some FromSoftware titles, the Baldur's Gate trilogy and Grand Theft Auto. These four would be on my Mt. Rushmore of games.

YESS! You got the Cyclone of Chaos! Some bit of information you might enjoy, the runic attacks for your weapons are named relative to the Pantheons they originate from. The Leviathan Axe will have runics named after Norse Gods and the Blades named after the Greek Gods. You'll be familiar with the Blades and its runic attacks because a LOT of moves from the older games are incorporated into the baldes through runic attacks.
I'm all for it if you want to 100% this game and upload that journey as it'll be cool to see you get all the moves for the Blades and I'm not sure if you'd like to do that while the story is the main focus, so episodes after the story is completed focusing on 100% would be awesome
You finally got good I'm so proud of you child... Just remember don't let it get in your head too much some of the Valkyries are waaaayyy tougher than others so leave them for later "maybe one per episode could be interesting" and yea do them all they are worth doing cause they hide a secret boss that is one of the best I have ever fought

The difference in atmosphere in this game after Atreus falls ill is crazy mad! And Matis reaction is priceless! I must’ve watched the boat scene after Kratos takes Atreus to Freya more than a dozen times. Pure brilliance

Personally i can’t imagine why anyone would play this game without either playing, or watching a story summary of the trilogy first. This whole game gets two times better by knowing what Kratos used to be. These moments that you just experienced in these episodes would lose most of their weight.
Tho as someone who did play these games without having played or knowing anything about the story of the original. The way the scene was done still gave me chills and made me hyped. Would have been way more hyped if I had played the OG games but even without it, it's still a great scene
Gow 2018 doesn’r go into the why Kratos has the blades of chaos instead of the blades of exile. A comic called “Fallen God” (which takes place post gow 3) shows that Kratos tried many times to get rid of the blades of chaos, but they would return to him after waking up from slumber.
My guess is that it’s a curse that keeps him from disposing the blades

Hey Mati, just a combat tip for the axe. When you do Pride of the frost (Tapping R2 combo finisher) you can instantly quickturn out of the attack once it lands, making the combat much faster

This video was so good I'm glad you enjoyed it! And I got somethings to point out. Starting with what happened to the sky when Atreus collapsed, it was first theorised and later confirmed in an interview that when Greek God's die cataclysmic consequences usually follow, the only exception that I can recall being Athena's death, and because Atreus is part Greek God the same applies to him.
Secondly, Kratos did try to get rid of the Blades after GoW 3, in a comic set not long after 3 he threw them down into the ocean, but they came back. It turns out they were somehow cursed to follow him wherewver he goes so he can't get rid of them, they only stay in place if he has the intention of coming back, hence why they are hidden under his house and not thrown off a cliff. Also I find it poetic in a kinda grim way that Kratos has to use the very blades that killed his previous family to save the last piece of his new one, the irony is not lost on Kratos and he definitely feels it.
Third, I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this but GoW 3 happened when Kratos was in his forties, 2018 was set over 900 years later and Kratos is definitely over 1000 years old by this point.
And finally, upgrade the blades and look at your skill screen, you can learn more for the blades!
