Then he gets the definitive one that apparently carries him through episode III and on into old age..but when exactly did he lose his first one (again)? Or even better, maybe they should've filmed episode I with Liam Neeson using the same green lightsaber that Luke has in Return of the Jedi, as though Kenobi had simply kept it intact all those years, for Luke to inherit at time of need..? Also, it could explain the physical resemblance between Luke's and Obi-Wan's weapons a bit differently, if Obi-Wan had built his definitive sword according to his master's design..
Luke’s crystal in Legends was synthetic so it wasn’t Qui-Gon’s and I don’t think it’s the case for canon either. Though, that is something I wish was true.

I'm always marveled by how good the special effects got between ESB and ROTJ. They really nailed the laser blast reflection effects and the sheathing / unsheathing effects in that time. ROTJ has by far the best effects in the franchise if you ask me, best miniatures too.
Totally fair, there’s definitely some awe-inspiring effects in ROTJ! Empire beats it out a tiny bit for me since there’s a couple times when the green screen in Jedi is a bit noticeable, but I agree about the lightsabers and blasters for sure!
It's so funny to watch the old original Star Wars movies and see Luke swinging the lightsaber and the enemies reacting like they got hit by a baseball bat and not like a laser that could cut you in half and cauterize the wound lol
I don’t know what it is, but the lightsabers in the original trilogy seem like they could be real to me, they look so much better not being digital but it’s everything about them, the fact that only Luke, Vader & Obi Wan have and wield them, it makes me buy the fact that they aren’t just ancient weapons, they’re ancient in design, but they aren’t used anymore really, except for the three mentioned(not including all of the expanded universe stuff
I know what you mean. It's partly the digital effects oversimplifying their optical appearance on camera, I think, partly the sound effects, explosive squibs & sparks and other things that give them the appearance of real formidable presence, and maybe mostly in how they're used. Perhaps I should say, overused. The effect is diminished in the prequel episodes. Fortunately, Vader's scene in 'Rogue One,' and Luke's triumphant return in 'Mandalorian' have shown that we can still have our proper Jedi weapons when the right hands are behind the camera..
@@n.w.1803 what you mean diminished? Are you kidding me? In the prequels you see actual droids getting sliced and diced. (Like Luke's triumphant return in Mandalorian). Do you see that in ROTJ when he has using it at the Sand Dunes?
@@AndrewBoniface09 It's hard to pin down what I mean, I'll admit. The weapons just seemed to have more..presence?..in the original films. Maybe it's the practical vs. CG effects ('Empire' director Kershner famously called for 'more sparks' alot). Or just the casual, twirly way the actors handle the things. And, particularly in episodes II & III, they just look bad on screen. Flat and lifeless, like a third-rate photoshop job, without any sense that there's a glowing light beam flickering there in real life. I guess what I mean is that the movies seemed to have lost what always made Star Wars great; that sense that all this stuff was, or could, really happen, and that the lightsabres and blasters and ships could be something that you'd hold and climb around in, in the real world. But yes, The Mandalorian, and also Rogue One, went a good way in restoring that ethereal movie magic..
Unpopular opinion: top 3 coolest lightsaber scenes in all of Star Wars is obi wan vs anikan, Vader vs rebel soldiers in rogue one and Luke’s feature in mandalorian.
@@armandomendoza7371 because those are my top three where as majority of people would say the coolest scenes are scenes like aotc geonosis arena or darth maul vs qui gon and Obi wan where as in my opinion I said more of the shorter scenes that include lightsabers instead of the big main battles
Everyone complaining about Disney's lightsaber not cutting people in half. Well, even George did the same. Luke's lightsaber didn't even cut anyone in half in the first minute of this video.
While the green/red lights flashing in the first scene could be seen as on/off and him struggling with his newly constructed saber, you KNOW people in the audience when this came out saw the green immediately after and thought of the alternative... there with the black robes it could have been red.
@@mr.moviemafia yeahh probably i miss because you edit and it was more short than the original all the scene. Yeah when i was kid i love watch and watch this scene on vhs :)
I dont get why many dislike the first scene, I mean yes it was deleted as an anti-spoiler (i loved the green lightsaber surprise too honestly) but it could've worked as a flashback in the sequels
Always liked that brief moment when we see that closeup of Vader holding Luke's lightsaber and examining it; probably feeling both a sense of pride in his son for achieving the skills necessary to build it, while also likely feeling a deep sense of disappointment and regret that he chose to copy Obi-Wan's lightsaber design, rather than his own, perhaps in that moment realizing Obi-Wan had been more of a father to Luke than he had been or ever would be.
So after looking into it more there's this weird inconsitency I found with Luke's lightsaber on his belt. There are times where it dosen't even show up here it dose 1:19 yet during scenes like when he was on Dagobah his lightsaber isn't on his belt. The same thing happens when Luke talks to Leia about Vader which some could assume he took his lightsaber from the Ewocks before he left. And during the scene where Luke takes Anakin's mask off when Luke is carrying him there's no sign of his lighsaber yet again which you could assume was on the Death Star when it blew up but that can't be right because it shows up here 4:47. It's not just Lucasfilm either however. Even Disney did the same thing in the Book of Boba Fett where Luke trains Grogu. I checked and there's no sign of his lightsaber even though he uses it in one the scenes. Hell we don't even know what Luke did with in EP8. I'm sorry it just bothers me that there are times where Luke's lightsaber is on his belt and times when it it's not. Some consistency would be nice ya know?
Totally understand that, I didn’t really notice it until editing this video that he throws away his lightsaber when refusing to kill Vader (with a sound effect implying that it fell down the shaft) but then it miraculously shows up again for that shot during the finale of ROTJ. Tiny goofs like that don’t bother me too much beyond thinking they’re funny 😅 But yea I get that!
Luke's unique sounding lightsaber is from a synthetic crystal he made himself. The Empire put a ban on kyber crystals so Luke had to make his own. I dunno where that bullshit of using Qui-Gons crystal from his lightsaber came from? 🤔
I prefer Luke having his own crystals cause return of the Jedi shows he come long way being a Jedi due to making his own lightsaber without borrowed anything from the old Jedis if they going bring back Qui gon lightsaber make it Luke second saber imagine Luke with two green lightsaber it be badass.
3:00 here i still not sure if vader saved palpatine or saved luke from probably turn to the darkside bc vader was already redeeming so oof 3:45 luke: ITS OVER FATHER I HAVE THE HIGHGROUND vader/anakin: damn. 6:04 the scene we all loved in the mandalorian
The green saber to me represents power. Some of the most powerful Jedi wielded the green blade, like Qui Gon Jinn and Yoda. Luke was up there with the masters and ultimately became the galaxy's greatest hero.
What people THINK the green lightsaber represents: Luke is now more skilled, he has moved up a level. He is a Jedi Consular, who focuses more on the force, rather than saber fighting What the green lightsaber ACTUALLY means: Blue lightsaber doesn't look good with the blue sky at the Jabba fighting scene, so the special effects department had to change it With that said, Luke does look cool with the black robe and green saber :)
Same, it always seemed so cool! Regardless of how people feel about the sequels, it WILL be pretty cool to see a gold lightsaber in action for the Rey/New Jedi Order film 💛

Luke's green lightsaber is the best lightsaber in all of Star Wars and no one can convince me otherwise!!
No convincing needed, I agree!!
Thats why green is my favourite color.Because I always saw Luke with green lightsaber and I loved it.
Honestly, maybe me too!
the best sounding saber.
Definitely up there for me too!
I never noticed the parallels between Palpatine saying "DEWIT" in Episode 3 and Luke almost slicing him up on his throne in ROTJ.
I love the music that plays during the scene of Luke and Vader's last bit of fighting
It feels super heavy, like the weight of the Galaxy is behind each sword stroke 🥲
Best ignition sound
Truly satisfying, especially when you first watch ROTJ and see him whip it out for the first time in the barge
Im still lost on the fact how they made him look exactly like Mark Hamils Luke Skywalker
In The Mandalorian? They actually used a stand-in for the fighting, but had Mark Hamill on set and they technologically de-aged his face and voice!
Luke's saber has the best turn on sound.
Easily one of the best for sure!
What you mean "not digital"? You think they use real light sabers on set during the OT?
Best ignition sound, change my mind
His lightsaber ignition is the greatest of all time
Can’t disagree!!
A true Jedi always uses fighting with their lightsaber as a last resort, no matter the odds against them.
Unpopular opinion: top 3 coolest lightsaber scenes in all of Star Wars is obi wan vs anikan, Vader vs rebel soldiers in rogue one and Luke’s feature in mandalorian.
Not bad choices!
How is that an unpopular opinion?
@@armandomendoza7371 because those are my top three where as majority of people would say the coolest scenes are scenes like aotc geonosis arena or darth maul vs qui gon and Obi wan where as in my opinion I said more of the shorter scenes that include lightsabers instead of the big main battles
@Celerus Oakshield ngl that battle was trash
I think the final duel should be up there as well but pretty good list ngl
Everyone complaining about Disney's lightsaber not cutting people in half. Well, even George did the same. Luke's lightsaber didn't even cut anyone in half in the first minute of this video.
That was a tech limitation though.

The best ignition in my opinion
Definitely a great one!
One of my favorite lightsabers
1000% agree!
While the green/red lights flashing in the first scene could be seen as on/off and him struggling with his newly constructed saber, you KNOW people in the audience when this came out saw the green immediately after and thought of the alternative... there with the black robes it could have been red.
Great Vid! You forgot the scene from the last jedi vs kylo. Where he bought time for the resistance.
Thank you so much, I’m glad you enjoyed!!! While I LOVE that scene, he projects his father’s classic BLUE lightsaber during that moment 💙
The best redemption arc in cinema history.
Bro seriously u miss the part when
He cut the speeder!!, how he turn on the lightsaber is one of the most cool part of these clips
I didn’t miss that, it’s at 1:21. It’s one of my favorite moments with the lightsaber too!
@@mr.moviemafia yeahh probably i miss because you edit and it was more short than the original all the scene. Yeah when i was kid i love watch and watch this scene on vhs :)
That scene from the mandalorian is class
The colours go with the chakra colours. Basically their lightsaber color suits their personality.
Oooh that’s awesome!!
My favorite lightsaber easily. Legendary green
Favorite color for a reason!!!
Glad you involved the deleted scene from ROTJ
Me too, I wouldn’t think of excluding it!
Lol not many people involve deleted Star Wars scenes in compilation videos. Keep up the good work, bro.
In some star wars game, my lightsaber will always be green
I love the scene when luke says his father name
3:42 It's over Dad, I have the high ground
If only order 66 Jedi were like Luke in the mandolorian
I dont get why many dislike the first scene, I mean yes it was deleted as an anti-spoiler (i loved the green lightsaber surprise too honestly) but it could've worked as a flashback in the sequels
Oooooh that would’ve been a super cool idea!!!
ROTJ is just so fucking gooooooood
I’ve always wondered why Palpatine says that Luke’s saber is much like his father’s when they actually look nothing alike.
It’s much more like Obi-Wan’s, you’re right 😂
@@mr.moviemafia One of the props Hamill used sometimes was one of Alec Guiness's spare Obi Hilts!
Palpatine hasn't got rest ever since he got tased by Mace Windu so his memory is a bit foggy
*channeling Kylo Ren* "More..." *BLASTERS FIRING* "MORE!"
“Do you think you got him?”
The lightsaber is at its best in The Mandalorian.
So cool to see in used in action like that!!!
He says the saber was like his fathers when in reality it was more like obi wans and it was green 😐
Damn he uses this a lot after Return of the Jedi lol
I believe it came from a comic that is largely seen as canon, but I may be wrong about its canonicity
Luke might’ve used spare parts for Obi-Wan’s lightsaber from his old hut and found Qui-Gon’s crystal for his weapon
3:00 here i still not sure if vader saved palpatine or saved luke from probably turn to the darkside bc vader was already redeeming so oof
3:45 luke: ITS OVER FATHER I HAVE THE HIGHGROUND
vader/anakin: damn.
6:04 the scene we all loved in the mandalorian
Big fan of all the scenes in this video! :D
The green saber to me represents power. Some of the most powerful Jedi wielded the green blade, like Qui Gon Jinn and Yoda. Luke was up there with the masters and ultimately became the galaxy's greatest hero.
He became the Legend that the Galaxy needed to inspire hope, I love Luke!
What people THINK the green lightsaber represents:
Luke is now more skilled, he has moved up a level. He is a Jedi Consular, who focuses more on the force, rather than saber fighting
What the green lightsaber ACTUALLY means:
Blue lightsaber doesn't look good with the blue sky at the Jabba fighting scene, so the special effects department had to change it
With that said, Luke does look cool with the black robe and green saber :)
Love this fact so much, and that it led to so many cool things for SW!
I love how that ewok is just waiving around that lightsaber
Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford: Aww... My Little Bro Luke
Love them as a trio!
I always liked Luke’s lightsaber more than Anakin’s and he should have used it in the last Jedi
I get why he didn’t for the sake of where his character was, and I get why it was the blue one at the end, but I agree. Bring back the green!!!
Thx sm for this!! I love green lightsabers so freaking much and hate blue lightsabers!! This was needed!!
Aww poor blue lightsabers, they deserve love too 😂
Blue is common for Jedi who are courageous and brave. Green are those who use wisdom and self-disciplined
Blue lightsabers are overused
@@haydo-9916 that’s in legends and other sources of material that are no longer canon.
It’s crazy how you can tell Disney uses actual blades and not the old ig cgi effects
I LOVE that about the new ones, they feel like they’re really there!
@@mr.moviemafia I feel the same! I also like the cgi from the prequels that really defined the blade edge while swinging and dueling
My favorite lightsaber in episode 6!
Same!
This is the reason why my favorite color is green
Mine too! 💚💚💚
Yes!
💚Totally💚
Always wanted a Gold or Orange lightsaber as a kid.
Same, it always seemed so cool! Regardless of how people feel about the sequels, it WILL be pretty cool to see a gold lightsaber in action for the Rey/New Jedi Order film 💛
When you realize a lightsaber gets more screen time then Captain Phasma
It IS a cool lightsaber 🤣
2:00 I see you have constructed a new lightsaber
**looks at it unimpressed**
Where were we... right the emperor. This way.
No time for dilly dallying 😂
