    Great Video, not only of replacing the seal, but also of the tear down of the unit.
    On taping in the seal, I’ve used a socket over the seal and then taped in the seal. That helps to put the same pressure on the seal all around.

    Well done, Tom. You did a great job and based on the amount of oil you saved it looks like you got to this leak long before it ran low or created any damage. And yes, you are absolutely correct about the spiral grooves in the bushings. Another great vid! Scott

      Thanks Scott, yeah sort of lucky the blade broke and that caused me to see the leak. Now that I see those spiral grooves I wonder if running on the other side of the headstock is a bad idea. Originally I thought that since it is a reciprocating tool it could work in reverse. But in reverse the motion of the shaft would commute the oil back into the body.

    You are correct the grooves in bronze bushings are there to improve lubrication. Glad you found seals to fit!

    Tom, great video, I learned a lot! A couple of questions: 1. The blue gasket, who is the source? 2. The split collars, again who is your source? I really enjoy all of your videos and look forward to this next one!

      Thanks Sta. I cut the blue gasket from material I bought from Amazon. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000CNKUGO And the split collars are also from Amazon. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000P0OG4G

      @@woodshopnerdery Tom, Thanks for the quick response. If this happens to my jigsaw, thanks to you, I now know how to fix it! Thanks again for all of your great videos. On a cold, snowy day I really enjoy going back through your older videos.

    I have a leak problem but I don't know if it is the same place - it could be from the gear box/gasket. I was hoping you would do a video on replacing the gasket.

      Hi Tim, yes a leak from the gear box gasket is very common. I did replace mine in my rebuild video. See link. ua-cam.com/video/OVef5HVn4pU/v-deo.html

    Thanks for the video! I replaced the gasket with this roll of gasket product that was sort of like paper... it leaked. I probably put too much oil in it too. What did you use for the gasket?

    • @woodshopnerdery
      @woodshopnerdery  Рік тому +1

      Hi Joseph, I got a 4 piece variety pack of gasket material from Amazon. I used the blue stuff. To do it over I would use the cork.,
