4:20-5:00 is a peak Jerry moment. His phrasing, his emotion, and facial expression is like he is saying words with his notes. One of the best ever.

I don't see the value in taking sides 160 later. This song captures the tragedy of brothers killing brothers: not just the north and the south, butfamilies were divided. My county in East Tennesse was split right down the main street of the county seat. I'm American forever.

You're right lol, but also the song is from the perspective of a poor non-slave owning southerner that just wants to protect his home. So there's no real racism or pro-slavery sentiment here. It's a good illustration of how ideology makes enemies out of people that just want to survive.

Sean B why if you want any music that Jerry or any of the boys made on stage search it out online or from the community. Someone has it. Dont feed the coffers man it belongs to you already if its your inclination to have a copy. Jerry said it. The only cash you should ever spend on Jerry or the boys is to go to a show and maybe a shirt or blanket or stuffed bear or tattoo. You should know this by now. Ive been a die hard Head for 25 years if you want live recordings lookj into the community its what we are here for

Well, they were all friends for one. The Band and Grateful Dead travelled together on the Festival Express tour in 1970 as well as played a few shows together in the 80s. And Levon Helm has covered Grateful Dead songs with his band. So, why the hell not? You don't need any "business" to cover a song, music belongs to everyone. Don't be a douche.
