  • ***Update - didn’t work.
Important! - when you wrap the wire around the rca jacks, you must loosen a screw on your deck and then run wire under screw, then tighten it up. I didn’t make that clear. Should fix.

Update Update. I’m so glad this is working for a lot of you. For me, it turns out that the wiring harness was busted. I bought a Pioneer DEH-X8800BHS. It SMOKES that Kenwood, so all things happen for a reason. (Just pissed I drove it for years with a shit sound).

Back in the 80's we would just run a ground wire from the ignition coil with a small capacitor to the body. That usually worked. Sad to see the problem hasn't been fixed yet.

This worked for my classic Mini with Pioneer HU and new amp....horrible rpm-dependent whine plus rapid clicking when the electric fuel pump was on. Did not happen with previous amp but it died so needed a replacement....which then picked up these noise issues. Might be a poor ground elsewhere but this is an easy fix to save a lot of testing.

A couple of things I'm curious about . (1) I didn't have this problem until I replaced my factory alternator with one from RockAuto . (2) most RCA cables for car audio are twisted pair (differential) style so if your head unit isn't set up for this type output but the amp is you would have no noise rejection in the cable . I bring this up because I can't find any statement for my Kenwood decks output type but my JL amp has differential input . I've tested 3 different amps of differing price range and the JL picks up the most noise .

The grounding of the head unit case to the closest stable ground should do the same. Some amps are designed so that each rca must remain isolated at input and most certainly at output. When experiencing stereo interference, it will more than likely be ground induced.

I do car audio for a living. Sound like a bad RCA, maybe a small break in the line. But hey, this beats having to pull all that out to replace. Sometimes bad spark plug wires will pick up transit noise and amplify it the rca’s and you will hear it in the audio when the car is running.

late response but I just got a new JVC aftermarket radio and installed it. I don't have my door speakers or tweeters hooked up to an external amplifier, just the deck. I got it all wired and when I fired the car up, as soon as the radio starts, a loud static/screeching sound plays through my mids and tweets. The tweeters get no music just static, the mids get music and static. I am curious if I should cut the car harness's factory ground wire that is running to the headunit and run a NEW & seperate wire from the headunit to the amplifer's ground? Or should I keep the cars factory harness's ground wire and run a secondary ground wire from the chassis of the headunit to the amplifer? Another question is should i use the radios harness black wire (the ground) to run a new wire to a new ground location or should I just connect it to the radio's chassis and run it to a new ground location? Hard to explain but sounds like I'm riding inside a UFO.

    • @wirebender

Remove the serpentine belt and run the car with the stereo on. Do you still have the noise? I'm thinking you're getting electrical interference from your ignition wires plugs and mistaking it for an alternator whine. Wonder what's going on. My dad has the same issue with his mustang and I looked at it for like 20 minutes. I went to college for automotive and took an audio class and that doesn't sound like ground loop. Ground loop is like a hollow sound.

ActualTour V2.0 I feel like we didn’t ground it right did you screw it down under the screw? I just left the side on top of them screw maybe the vibrations of the car keep it from being stabilized?

Fake, you didn’t start the car. You can’t get alternator whine unless the alternator is running now I have heard of this working but in your case you’re not being honest.

Almost all the new 2020-2022 pioneer and kenwoods have this issue. Its the cheap china chips and hardware. My 2022 pioneer avh-240ex puts out garbage quality sound, even with a 5 channel fosgate amp. Full on regret the purchase.
