Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is one of my all-time favourites
Steve Martin is the most gifted all-around entertainer of my generation. He can do stand-up comedy, act, write, sing, dance, and seriously play the banjo. He was one of my favorite Carson guests, and one of my favorite Letterman guests. He is everything.
Johnny Carson and Steve Martin. Two of the best comedians ever. True professionals.
People don't understand that sarcasm is a common thing in comedy. Especially the commenters here. Steve Martin is an all time great.
If you have Netflix, look up the comedy special with Steve Martin and Martin Short. Just precious.
Other people don’t understand that sarcasm isn’t always funny.
thats what the cats said when they saw me? This was unfunny as f. y i k e s
Steve is so gifted and funny.
The coolest thing about the funniest people (and artists), is how serious they really are.
Steve Martin has always had the best highbrow lowbrow comedy.
I laughed out out loud at least two or three times. The pacing of his delivery is classic.
I am sorry but this is one of the best comedies ever made.
I remember when this first aired and I always felt bad that Steve Martin had an "off" night. But watching it now decades later I realize the audience was probably just engrossed and mesmerized by the act as I was just now. It felt like I was watching a movie. And I didn't care so much about laughing as much as I was dying to see what he would say next.
btw this film with michael caine is one of the best/funniest ever !!
Loved hearing the audience laugh during the movie clip! Steve Martin has had a very diverse career. Love his newest show “Only Murders In The Building” with Martin Short and Selena Gomez.
Absolutely CLASSIC movie! One of my favorites. He's so funny!!!
The long play - brilliant!
I like the last scene when rupret said may I do a trump and just mimics trump priceless
"I won't get any of those tings, now will I?" "I don't think so!"
Ok now I have to watch that movie again!
Steve seems a bit sluggish in this clip.
Wonder if he added that to his diary
That's cuz there was something going on behind the scenes
@@chrismoroney9306 no no no .... JOHNNY is SLUGGISH !
Johnny was brilliant and the audience loved everything he said.
The Golden Age of Steve
Literally choked on my own spit laughing at the “bathroom” scene
Johnny was the BEST!
I think Johnny seemed sluggish during this show.
Such a great movie, one of my all time favorite. I love the interview! Thank you so much for sharing this!=;)
"There goes my cat routine which I don't think I'll be doing anymore."
Carson was the best when he was bombing, to see a guest going thru it, he was all in.
I'm not in the mood for any of your questions
Johnny and Steve!!!
I miss Johnny.
brilliant!
Bring back Johnny!
only in reruns
from the dead?
A puppy and a duck, now there's a combo you don't hear every day.
Yeah STEVE, you still owe me seventeen dollars and twenty five cents...and a thumb pick.
Lol,
When Santa called the King “John…”
Sometimes when I have a cold, I call him Steve Barton instead of Steve Martin.
Porfle Popnecker be too
And be
That reminds me of something my mother used to say:
Oh sprig, oh sprig
Oh cub, oh cub
I'b waded log for thee
[translation]
Oh spring, oh spring
Oh come, oh come
I've waited long for thee
Santa didn’t wish Ed a Merry Christmas! Poor Ed is overlooked sometimes.
Ed should have played Santa with that laugh.
The nose in the air!
Stephen Glenn Martin, más conocido como Steve Martin (Waco, Texas, 14 de agosto de 1945), es un actor, comediante, escritor, productor, músico y cantante estadounidense.

Santa doesn't appear until the NINTH MINUTE. I want my money back.
Steve is a national treasure.
Cats have a short term memory?
Slowdream101. You're insane...
Pretty sure that's Frank Welker (prolific voice actor) as Santa?
Rupert at the table was my favorite part of the movie..
Ruprecht!
Oklahoma Oklahoma Oklahoma Oklahoma
Not mother?
John William Carson (Corning, Iowa; 23 de octubre de 1925 - West Hollywood, California; 23 de enero de 2005) fue un presentador, comediante, escritor y productor de televisión estadounidense.
If dogs , and cats, have a short memory, why after being away for months do they get so excited to see us ?
I've always.ironi what !!! Oh I get it
8 mins start
I think Johnny seemed sluggish during this particular episode
Two g's, I believe.
The whole appearance was a routine.
He must have only one tie..Ha...I've seen other clips with the same tie..great stuff miss Mr. Carson..
Do we know who was playing Santa in this clip?
wow, two commercial breaks in 10 minutes.
this was high quality late night show. if the broadcasters were smart they would try to make money again by being funny again. leave your politics and feelings at the door,ty.
Johnny Carson never ever lost his touch! he was as good on his last show as he was on his first show and all in between he was totally awesome! he came across on TV like a guy you knew and were comfortable with. not like now with the hateful political non humor! Johnny could tell political jokes and not offend ether side. only Jay Leno came close to Johnny's excellence.
I think Johnny seemed sluggish during this particular show.
Steve did do well hitting his peak in the late 70s but his lack of material and planning killed his comedy potential. So serious acting saved his career.
Yeah..."The Jerk" was some serious acting all right...I cried when he got his tuna salad on white bread, a Tab, and a couple of Twinkies...
Th is is like will ferrel humor
Long set up!
Johnny… sluggish!
they always tried out new material on JC, sometimes it worked, other times, not so much....Not his best stuff. The movie DR Scoundrels is a 10/10, however.
Martin is usually hilarious, but I feel he really struck out that night. It happens to the best of them.
Sadly (in my opinion), these days., Steve doesn't seem to have the same level of funny he used to have. He's still a crack musician though.
Have you read 'The Pleasure of My Company' or 'Shopgirl?' A fine writer as well.
Not his best appearance on this show
Glad I didn't see it.
his jokes bottomed out so poorly with this crowd that night that Steve Martin actually volunteered to Carson to end the suspense that anyone would actually laugh at his routine..by actually leaving the studio and Burbank. isn't that what you guys saw?even Johnny had trouble smiling. and juggling cats? i hate him!
I understand what he was trying to do, but it just wasn't working for him that night. The idea was good, and Carson did his best to go along, but it wasn't a hit.
If you listen closely at the very end, I think Johnny mentions that, "it worked".....
Nothing was funny....ugh!!!
Sorry, can't go with the pet humor.
Steve Martin is an all time great, but this segment just wasn't funny. Nothing worked, and it was awkward. My favorite Steve Martin movie is The Man With Two Brains.
stevie jack steve martins act was way south of funny. but loads better than Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, heh?
Steve Martin is so annoying and one of the worse comedians I’ve seen in my life . He will stage anything for a laugh he does not compare to some of the greats that use natural humor not staged humor
Not funny then and still not funny.
johnny carson was the best late night host their will ever be. and if your talking about steve martin he's got some funny movies back then but now like cheaper by the dozen? ok its iconic but still not very well played through.
Johnny is funny. Steve Martin... well the audience is very good at reading the laugh now card that the stage hand is holding up.
+Janet Sensibilities were apparently different back then. Kids were willing to laugh at things with their parents. I could tell the audience felt a little awkward but they had faith that something funny was going to happen so they went with it, and they also understand sometimes something doesn't fully work but they know what to appreciate. You're welcome to your opinion, but the audience reactions felt pretty real to me.
+Slowdream101 Do you watch these videos just to bitch about Steve Martin? I've seen you do this before.
Slowdream101 intelligent humor. i guess you dont get sarcasm
