Simone explained that during her vault, she got lost in the air and couldn't tell where the ground was, which for a gymnast could mean landing normally or landing on their neck. @@insigniamalignia hey doofus. It might come as a surprise to you but it takes a whole lot of mental focus and effort to make sure everything goes smoothly. And that includes determining when and how you position your body so you dont land on the wrong side. Its not reslly rocket science.
@@insigniamalignia i believe its specifically called split second vertigo, where, like regular vertigo, the ears perceive space differently than the eyes, but only for a moment, leading to confusion. In general, gymnasts have a much more acute sense of their body in relation to the ground than the average person, a result of having to know how much more or less to rotate their body. When a gymnast gets lost, they can't tell how to rotate and have to guess, sometimes leading to disastrous results. I've heard stories of paralysis from bad landings after a gymnast got lost
for the Simone Biles thing, as an ex-gymnast, I think she is so inspirational. First of all, she braught power to the center of womens gymnastics as oposed to elegance, which is so cool, but also prioritised mental health to preserve physical health which is very rare in high level competition. As a Brit, I can see so many simerlarities between this and Tom Daley's story in 2012. Being the hope and the star of a nation for the olympics, especially in such a big team like the US, is so so hard and really cannot be understood by those who have not lived it. Please remember, although they are incredible humans, they are still just human. If you have some time go check out Nile Wilson's documentary on mental health in high level gymnastics, it's so moving and you can find here on youtube.

(It's almost as if a woman is just a pawn for winning medals while a man can achieve things on his own and be an athlete that wins for himself first and then his country) These are just a hypotheses though so I'm not sure if it's 100% the case but I do know that there is definitely a difference when it comes the male and female gymnasts unfortunately :( (But maybe age has something to do with it as well? Idk) I just hope there is a healthier environment in the gymnastics scene, they already have to deal with so much and this isn't helping :(

Back in the day people had to die before the company would do anything. The company would send thugs to threaten, intimidate, and even harm workers. Sad so many don't appreciate what they have... But unions didn't come free.
The other option is staying and continuing to get groped. This comment is gross as hell a d you should feel bad about it. You wanna get actionable change you threaten their money.
Still blows my mind that the US parliament was breached and half the US government is like “this is fine.” What happens if the next terrorist mob isn’t on your side? It’s truly heartbreaking to watch security/officer testimonies.
The women who was shot was told that the guard would use lethal force and she kept going. If she served the country shouldn't she know that people with guns arent kidding?
Also if you see the full video there was a guy behind her with an AR15 who seemed almost ready to shoot back down the hallway at the secret service agents.
The problem is that many of those that stormed the capital were so brainwashed that they thought (to their core) that they were justified in what they were doing. That's the sad part of all of this. People like Tucker Carlson spews his shit on camera then goes home, eats a couple of hot pockets and crawls in bed. Meanwhile, he's got some of these people so worked up that they truly believe there's something nefarious going on inside the government. I'm definitely not excusing any of the horrible actions that occurred that day, just pointing out that even someone trained to know they shouldn't enter after being warned multiple times, can think what they're doing it right.
People in crowds lose their sense of personal responsibility. There is a great book called, Among the Thugs. Was written by Bill Buford, in the 80's. He followed English football fans during a time when riots after games were very common, and eventually goes into the topic of crowd psychology. We were extremely lucky that only 5 or 6 died that day. Things could have easily gotten so much worse as there were not nearly enough capitol police or national guard on standby to assist if the crowd went full on bloodthirsty. The lack of security that day was by design, Trump wanted to cause as much mayhem as possible. We know orders were given to not hinder the terrorists in any way.
The best part with the Simone story is all the people saying "if i was in the Olympics nothing could stop me from competing" ,but you didn't even have the dedication to get good enough at anything to go to the Olympics. Some people think that they can just want something really bad in the moment and it will make up for you not doing shit for years to achieve that goal. Same guys who talk about who they would beat up and have never been in a fight or even train, on some DBZ power-up shit.
Republicans don't want to investigate if it was Antifa because they know deep down that there will be zero evidence of that. My heart goes out to Simone. She had a really rough start in life and has done incredible things already. I think we're the same age, and looking at her I can't help but think damn, she's probably achieved more by now than I ever will. I could never cope with that many eyes on me, that much pressure, nevermind the physical demands and dedication required for sport at her level! I'm so glad she knows herself well enough to recognise what she needs in this time, and hope she has the necessary support around her.
Bigots crack me up sometimes. 10 years ago it was “you can CHOOSE to be straight” now its “they’re making our kids think they can choose to be gay”. Which is it? Also Simone Biles is the shit and I’m glad she’s taking the time she needs. Queen.
Anyone hating on Simone needs a kick to the shin. She has 4 different moves named after her! She has overcome so much including being one of the victims of Nassar. We have put so much pressure on her like I can't even think of a single name of any other athlete in the Olympics right now. I would love for her to be able to compete in the individual and get that 5th move but I don't blame her.
Her performance hasn’t been good the entire olympics. Fumbles and stumbles left and right and instead of humbling accepting her loss she drops out and blames mental health. Kurt Angle won men’s wrestling gold with a broken neck. Yet she wants to quit because she’s bummed out. Pathetic
@@captainnwalps6689 Her mental health is valid, she's carrying so much stress and pressure. Shes pretty much the only US athletes many Americans even know of, that pressure is MASSIVE. If you can't understand that, maybe check yourself, and put yourself in her shoes.
My only problem with the whole situation is that she took that spot from another gymnast. People work their entire lives to compete in the Olympics, and she took that opportunity from someone and dropped out. I have no issue with not competing for mental health reasons. I find issue with committing to something, taking this once in a lifetime opportunity from another athlete, then throwing it away regardless of the fact that it was a good reason.

Growing up in an extremely christian house that taught me that people "choose" to be gay is the reason I didn't know I was bisexual until I stopped going to my charter school and swapped to public school, where things were discussed more openly. I always thought that everyone was sexually attracted to both genders, but you could choose to be either way. I was so confused when a friend told me that's not how it worked. A strange discussion to have to find out that you're actually bi and thanks to my family I hated myself for it for a while. When I finally came to terms with I'm just built different, and that's kinda a good thing, everything fell into place. For the people who think you choose to be gay, I can assure you, you don't. LOL
@@rageagainstthemicrowave1313 Well that's just sad. They're angry because they "chose" straight as you are expected while other people simply chose to enjoy the thing they themselves can't have. What a depressing thing to consider.
I think it's fairly common for women to be bi, it's not as common for men. 2007 and 2016 studies found that women are about 15% likely to experience same-sex attraction (that's counting people who identified as "mostly heterosexual" or "not exclusively heterosexual" as well as outright "bi" or "lesbian"). In men the same surveys found about 4-5% of men identified as experiencing same-sex attraction. I suspect the numbers will rise with each generation as people become more comfortable admitting they are same-sex attracted. The older generation still have the sense of taboo that would discourage them from openly admitting it. Historically the number was as low as 2%, most of the increase appears to be people having the courage to identify as bi. Although some prominent psychologists suggest the prevalence of porn is dissuading young women from wanting male sexual partners and so more people are experimenting with women instead who wouldn't have historically explored bisexuality.
I think Simone dropping out for mental health issues IS her persevering, and I commend her for making what is an extremely difficult decision to put her health first.
And Simone for the first time in her career doesn’t have her parents there in person watching and supporting her compete. I know that all olympians are experiencing the same thing, but consider having an entire organization, USAG, and it’s success all on your shoulders at 24 years old.
Love your commentary on Simone. No one understands her reality. She in under an amazing amount of pressure. And you're so right, she's done more than most of us even think about doing. She's an amazing human.
Battling with mental health as an elite athlete, I think it's more common than we think. Swedish soccer player Janogy has battled with mental illness and recently came back to the national team. Another Swedish athlete who placed first in her field in the last Olympics didn't get a medal this year, and in her interview after she fought back tears and said she was relieved. That it had been very hard to have so much pressure on her. I feel an immense amount of respect for athletes who dare to speak up and be open about this.
As someone who just quit their job due to the detriment it had on my mental health over the last 2 years, I commend Simone! No one is going to look out for your health and well-being like you do.

Coughs* in straight
Well that logic fails for the other side. Many of the LGTBQ+ community for example transgenders chose to be the other gender. They choose by wanting to be the other gender ie getting their anatomies changed. By making the choice does that not shatter their reality? I’m just asking and wanting to be realistic or see what others have to say.
@@wizcombo They don't _choose_ to be the other gender.
I'm not trans myself, but I've heard trans people describe it as "They feel that the body they're in feels wrong to them" and similar statements.
If you're straight, you feel that it's right for you. If you're gay, you feel that the same gender is what is attractive to you. You don't choose your sexuality.
Just like trans people didn't have a say in which gender they choose, they feel that the one that was assigned to them at their birth doesn't feel right.

How many “normal tourist visit” ‘s does Rep. Clyde NORMALLY help to barricade the chamber doors against?!?
Nyjah Huston
Shin seems too little. Face, let's kick them in the face.

Facts
My God. I know it’s bad to generalise an entire group of people based on the actions of a few but Republicans really are pushing the line of human decency.
The radicals on the right are turning the entire party into a laughingstock and a genuine threat to democracy, and the moderates of that party are silent and doing nothing to protect their careers and fortunes. There are no good Republicans. Cheney and Kissinger may be on the committee by Pelosi's invitation, but they are complicit in the downfall of their party and are at least doing the bare minimum to pick up the pieces.
It's "the actions of a few" and the mass compliance of the rest of them.
'pushing'?
My dude they gleefully skipped over that line a long ass time ago.
You must be new here. They've been like this for decades.

This is fucking wild, they had multiple guns pointed at them, the front guy (who shot her) even told them that if they try and breach the barricade they'd fire. And this dumb fuck decides to still climb and try and breach the barricade.

Did all those riots look peaceful 🥱
@@evelynnevirginia1034 they were until the Proud Boys showed up
@@brandannix8711 Also like... every "riot" was contained. Fucking right wing news jerked off and screamed about how "ALL OF PORTLAND/[any "leftist" city] IS BURNING DOWN" meanwhile I had friends who are living in Portland sending me pics and videos of everything being fucking fine, people were still walking to their place of employment, going about their days normally, because the "riots" were in a 2 block chunk of the city; meanwhile the greater protests were usually elsewhere, and _surprise_ peaceful. Even my own city, it was used as an example of a "hellish riot", except our "riot" was also fucking contained to a 2 block area, lasted less than 3 hours, and had people who were a part of the peaceful protests trying to help and stop the actual rioters.

@@evilferret1453 Sure. Arrest them. BLM did not organize a riot. A riot happened anyway. Antifa is not a single organization. So yes, arrest them, too.
LOL
I'm bi too! Somehow I always thought that the people who think they 'chose' to be straight are closeted bi people.
what a gamer
@@rageagainstthemicrowave1313 Well that's just sad. They're angry because they "chose" straight as you are expected while other people simply chose to enjoy the thing they themselves can't have. What a depressing thing to consider.
As someone who is bi and comes from a Christian family this really is what happened to me as well.

This episode is super important, it’s a shame UA-cam will suppress the truth because it’s “controversial”.
And Simone for the first time in her career doesn’t have her parents there in person watching and supporting her compete. I know that all olympians are experiencing the same thing, but consider having an entire organization, USAG, and it’s success all on your shoulders at 24 years old.
And the judges straight up admitting they score her lower because her tricks are too dangerous for anyone else to try
The testimony today was extremely emotional. I can't imagine the fear the capitol police felt. When will those who failed them stand accountable.
