Steven Wilson is the man, the genius. He's been making masterpieces for more than 30 years. Check out all the Porcupine Tree discography and his solo albums, lots of great songs to enjoy.
Great reaction, whoever suggested this song did a good job. This song is one of my all time fav from Steven Wilson. If you haven't delve into his stuff, you have so much more to discover. His entire discography is fucking amazing.
One of my favorite albums of all time, you cant go wrong with any track from this album. For more steven wilson i recommend his band Porcupine Tree - "Arriving somewhere but not here" For some random stuff, Caligulas horse- "graves", and native construct - "mute"
You’ve gotten all three of my favorite artists in order Opeth Steven Wilson and Devon Townsend . You need to check out more Steve and his other project Porcupine Tree ! Genius
Steven plays the bass and sings on this. The guitarist is Guthrie Govan and keyboard player Adam Holzman. Nick Beggs on chapman stick and Craig Blundell (EDIT: Marco Minnemann, not Blundell) on drums. Wilson is previosly known from Porcupine Tree which started as a solo project and grew into a band. Now Wilson has been on a solo career for several years and the band around has chanced a few times. Something new is coming up next year with a tour called The Future Bites.
If you listen to the demos these songs are pretty well established with Steven Wilson writing and playing everything before he submits them to the rest of the band. Then they lend their expertise to each of the parts. Naturally the solos are of the respective players.
Yes 'Captain Morgan' U have a lot of Albums and 100's of Song's by "Porcupine Tree" and "Steven Wilson" to listen to that are Really Good! So looking forward to many New Reaction's of their Song's and Happy Thanksgiving!
Very nice review! Steven Wilson has so much to give. Keep checking it out. Btw he has some of the best recordings audiophile-wise. He even helped Opeth produce some of their best sounding records. Also, he did a project with Mikael Åkerfeldt called Storm Corrosion which is slow, melancholic and quite beautiful.
@@captainmorgan1978 Checked them out right after this one. I think we have similar taste in music, although my preference lies closer to folk music than soul. (With that said, I love soul :)) I can't seem to remember you checking out Pain of Salvation. That should be right up your alley. Iter Impius & Martius Nauticus live is a strong recommendation from me. Daniel, who is the main guy (the singer) has been an unofficial member of Transatlantic on several tours and albums, which might hint towards his genius. I apologize if you have already done them.
@@captainmorgan1978 That would be awesome. Judging by your answer I can't tell if you know of Transatlantic. How about Mike Portnoy on drums and Neal Morse on vocals and lots of other stuff. In fact, Transatlantic would be a great choice for a reaction video if you're unaware of them (although I suspect you have all of their albums).
@@oskarstrom4034 oh sorry for not responding to that part. Don't have all the albums but am very familiar with all of Portnoy's side projects...Transatlantic is good not great for me... A little to carnival sounding to me...lol. Although, Waterfall is in my top favorite ballads of all time! 😀😀
Steven Wilson is in two bands, Porcupine Tree and Blackfield, as well as doing his solo stuff. Plus, he is a key producer for many other bands, including Opeth.
Steven Wilson and Porcupine Tree should be known by everyone. The funky sound is not typical but the quality certainly is. Craig Blundell the drummer is highly regarded in the Prog world.
Marco Minneman was the drummer for the recording of this album tho ! And the guitar player during doing the solo is Guthrie Govan, probably one of the best guitar player to ever touch the instrument :) The line-up on this album was incredible !
If you also liked the drums (in addition to Guthrie Govan's solo, which blew you away, as it blew all of us away, I think), you might enjoy the music of *The Aristocrats* (Guthrie Govan, Marco Minnemann, Bryan Beller). I think I enjoy them as much for Guthrie's sense of humour as anything else. This is very close to being a "necropost", so you probably have answers and more to all your other questions here by now.
I saw the Jacob video and went on to this... hehe well other comments said it.. "who is SW" .. Not sure if they mentioned that Steven Wilson is the multichannel guy also. I prefer his own work of all those 5.1 blu-ray high res stuff that really sound awesome in monitors. This is some interesting article about this. www.soundonsound.com/people/steven-wilson-remixing-classic-albums
Great song by a great artist, although this song wouldn´t be my pick to introduce you to him. Anyways, a couple of weeks ago you said that you wanted something else than prog, as long as its technical and melodic. Try this; Gogo Penguin - Garden Dog Barbeque. Something different ;)
Well I certainly liked it so the requestor did a great job! lol And yes, thanks for the suggestion..in other videos request it again so it is fresh in my mind! Cheers!
Old prog not very technical? Where are you at lmao, old prog has jazz woven in to it, it has classical woven in to it, two of the most technical styles of music ever created, to take them two genres and blend them together is a technical miracle as it is, to then go and blend the result with rock, folk, pop and metal is just a creation of pure genius, to call such music less than technical is insulting, to say Symphony X and the likes is more technical is degrading to be honest.
it is not an opinion, it is a fact..sorry if that is degrading...throw pop music in there why don't you. I never said all old progressive was not technical...I said Yes and Genesis had a more MELODIC/less technical side of writing style...whereas bands like Meshuggah had less melodic/more technical side to their writing. So, you created a straw man that you tore down and didn't follow what I said. Second, just because something has jazz elements to it doesn't make it technical. Avant Garde Jazz is more technical than smooth jazz, for instance. Blues is more emotionally driven than jazz. This is just different styles of music and its purpose...trying to make them all equal or not separating technical from others forms of music is like saying men and women are equal in all ways.lol
How are YES et alia less technical? The Gates of Delerium just to start with, that alone is way far more technical than anything I have heard by Symphony X, Symphony X are more testicle than technical, they're a load of bollocks, I walked out of the gig laughing the last time I saw them, never done that at YES concerts, or any other concerts in fact. As for putting words in anothers mouth, why would you say that I said that you said that old prog "isn't technical"? I said you said "it is less technical", there is a difference! Saying something is not as technical is exactly the same as less technical, talk about tearing down self-created straw men. And no, it is definitely not fact, it is most definitely just opinion, your opinion to be precise, even what I say is opinion to someone else, but what is fact is that you seriously understate and under-value and probably under-appreciate just how technical old prog can be, there are many instances where it is not melodic at all but is very frenetic, a total onslaught of the aural senses like the previously mentioned Gates of Delerium for one, 20+ minutes with the last 3 or so minutes having melody.
By the way, are you trying to say that men are inferior to women somehow? Equality between the sexes is not the best example to use lol, but since 99.9% of commenters on a proggy post are men you won't get too much earache from women.
The guitar solo by Guthrie wasn't written, he improvised it in one take, you don't get more technical than that.
He is top 1%
On a guitar he had never played
The solo of Minimoog is a masterpiece.

That Regret #9 solo was recorded in 1 take. Guthrie Govan, the master behind it! 😀
I like Guthrie, definitely one of the greats!
You should do Steven Wilson’s song Routine . But you have to watch the music video . If you don’t cry you’re not human.
Uh oh that's pressure.lol Cool will keep it in mind for more Steven stuff!
