    When it comes to Rage Arts I actually think offline mode has a lot to answer for here. Whenever you face the computer they will almost without fail just eat the RA, which conditions new players to just throw them out expecting a chunk of damage or free win without risk or consequence. Thanks Bamco!

    • @PeterYMao
      @PeterYMao  3 роки тому +3

      I wouldn't blame the computer for this. And even if the computer did do this a lot. Why doesn't the player just block and perfectly punish every time if they are used to it? That's an interesting thing to consider.

    Hello, im the biggest Sonic Fang fan in the world - aka the Steve. Thanks for including me in the video!
    Since sending the clips i was able to get to Jaggernaut rank and it's mostly thanks to your 101 series. I've started using more jabs, low pokes and actually learned how to combo and backdash semi-properly.
    For people struggling i have 2 personal tips (which were not present in this video), that helped me improve my game:
    1. Learn your guaranteed hits - For example, as Steve after FLKb2 knocks the opponent down you can do FF2 for addtional damage. I wasn't aware of that so i was losing out on FREE damage and lost countless rounds because of that.
    2. Movement is key to winning - after learning how to backdash, i was able to whiff punish more frequently with that glorious Sonic Fang which helped my growing frustration with the game (and myself).
    Again, great videos. I'll probably send more footage when the series gets to yellow ranks.
    Much love from Poland,
    Sonic Fang Guy

      I got my Gigas to Usurper in 25 wins from Fighter rank by demoting a 2200 win Josie Juggernaut to vidicator. I don't feel a lick of regret. Two reasons for that. 1, if he got there before, he could get there again. 2, if his gameplan still revolves around just doing strings...(literrally, no pokes, no combos, no nothing) then he probably will eventually learn that doing that is a road to nowhere.
      Though I do believe he is not going to change, which is sad. I got my Noctis to Usurper 3 weeks before at his expense too and it was the same...he just had 150 less wins.

      Ranks will come and go. It will go up and it will go down. Don't let rank be something that you gage as your only level of skill. Sometimes you will go against better players who were deranked themselves, and because of that your level might go down. Just keep working on improving your own game and as long as you are better today than you were 1 week ago or 1 month ago. I'd call that progress. Keep it up man.

    I vibe with the number 1 reason especially with using your characters key moves. You play Tekken long enough and you notice most of the shared moves but the satisfaction you can bring to your own gameplay is being able to show mastery of the characters key/trademark moves and utilizing it properly. So even if you win or lose, you feel satisfied refining the strategy to hit with the move.

    Something I realized playing in teal ranks is, Don't worry about korean backdash. My first few matches in teal I'd attempt KBD but more often than not drop the backdash and get a jump or an unintended crouch. Then I just gave up trying to do that and just started backdashing normally which ended up being a lot faster and efficient way of backdashing.

      Look doing get kicks isn't bad 100% of the time. 1st you can change your timing. 2nd you can change your pattern, i.e side roll into get up kick or forward roll into get up kick. 3rd, you can wait to see a couple times whether your opponent just goes all in with reckless abandon every time, then you can probably throw it. Lastly and most important, if you get punished, floated or hit out of doing it once or twice...STOP DOING IT! That means your opponent knows how to deal with it.

    Being prepared for counter hits is easier said than done. Even pro players drop combos from unexpected hits. Tekken also has that weird thing sometimes where you can hit an opponent at a weird angle and end up on the opposite side or or on the opponent's side.

    • @PeterYMao
      @PeterYMao  4 роки тому

      Being prepared for counter hit is not terribly hard to do. The issue with counter hits that you see drop is that the pros are going for the hard stuff. What I'm talking about here in the teal ranks is the easy stuff. The easy combos out of counter hits are not bad to do at all. The opposite side / opponent side weird angles usually is something that happens at walls. If you are ever afraid of that happening then shorten the wall combo. But again... it's a game and every game has weird things that happen.

    For recognizing counter hits, go to practice mode, set player counter hit to random, and keep throwing out your CH launchers. ONLY DO YOUR FOLLOW UPS WHEN THE CH HAPPENS. For example, if you're playing Bryan, start with just using b1 over and over, and every time it counters, follow up with db2, 1. Do that until you can do it 100% of the time. Switch to 3+4, and do the same thing. Once you can do both, then randomly alternate between both moves and see if you can recognize CHs. Again, you should be able to recognize hits 100% of the time. This is one of the easiest things to learn that you will take with you every rank. Then learn your character's generic combos, and try to keep it simple and use the same combo that can cover all of your launchers. Honestly, you shouldn't be bothering with hard combos until you're in yellow tbh...and even in yellow you'll survive with generic combos most of the time. Also, remember to use those CH moves with full awareness that a CH could happen. Intent matters.
    If you can do 60 damage consistently off launchers, you'll only need to launch your opponent 2 to 3 times in a round, whatever else is missing could just be pokes and chips.
    There really isn't an excuse to be missing CH hits with most launchers.

      Yes, but realistically a player at most can focus on at best 1-2 things at a time. Because there is so much going on in the game and so much to work on I think when players hone in and dedicate to working on certain things progress becomes a lot more achievable. But then again, this is just my way of thinking. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions.

      Absolutely. Make sure to always keep the key moves in mind. So many players limit themselves by just using like 5-7 moves, but when in reality their character has something like 20 good moves to use / choose from. The sooner you can start incorporating more GOOD key moves, the better.

  • @djmj1000
    @djmj1000 4 роки тому +1

    The number 1 habit not using moves correctly you still find in red and purple in many players.
    Especially strong high, high or mid, high combinations with good frames and damage like from paul (b1+2,1+2 i think). Dragunov, Lili and Jin players also do those a lot.
    With kazumi the high crush party starts then. Whenever i see the first move i counter with db2 for big crushing juggle damage. So often you are low on health and at the wall and i just wait for the opponent to do this move to punish and to get back the momentum.
    Sometimes i still rely too much on recovery kicks and good players punish those badly.

    Just found this channel
    I’m waiting for shade I’m in green ranks
    Haha
    There’s lots of smurfs I have encountered
    Here omg
    I did make that rage art mistake lol I’m the beginning
    Not so much the others but you should only use rage art/drive if either you know you can get away with it or at the end of a combo
    Unpredictability is also important Tekken which I learnt the hard way
    Otherwise people with pretty much know what your about to do before you do it
    They block then they punish you
    Parring practice is also somewhat important theirs loads of players that abuse unblockables
    Didn’t learn combos to begin with lol
    Relied on mix ups , and unpredictability and creativity
    As I’m in green I’m starting to learn combos
    I have made my own combos up as well so I’m experimenting
    Great commentary and advice

    • @PeterYMao
      @PeterYMao  4 роки тому

      Yo Carly! I'm sorry you hear you encountering smurfs. It really ruins the fun of the game especially at the beginner levels. However, just try to keep a positive attitude through the trials and difficulties. I know it can be difficult, but it will be rewarded in the end. As for the combos, you don't have to make up your own combos. There are a lot of good combos on UA-cam that you can use that character specialist have come up with. See if that helps you out :)

    • @carlyg1969
      @carlyg1969 4 роки тому

      Well I made up ones mainly because I play a mix up heavy character as a Main
      I play Lei Wulong if you were wondering
      I am the smurfs are annoying as soon as I get close to fighter rank I lose and go back down I lost my marauder rank but got it back so in reality I think right now I’m a Marauder rank Which I think my skill level is pretty much that marauder/fighter
      I know there’s sample combos which I’m learning on
      But I have also created some of my own one does 59 damage and is much easier and more consistent to execute than the 63 damage combo
      Mix up combo = comet kick / back turn launcher and launcher / mid kick
      Rather than uppercut , forward kick / snake strike , backturn fist , launcher
      So that’s why I know I don’t have too but to me with lei it’s part of the fun
      I know his hard to master and I learnt the hard way too died so many times in the beginning
      But I’m slowly getting better all the time
      In fact some of the combos I saw lei player Bilal_Kaka use so most of them aren’t made up at all lol
      When I get decent with Lei I might pick up a secondary
      The Smurfs just make me want to get better but they are really annoying at times this one Heihachi was brawler rank and no way he was his skill level said otherwise
      Perfect electrics , quite a few combos
      He knew loads of techniques and including punch parry which is hard so react and use unless you use it lots / practice
      His level would have been at least 10 ranks above me I couldn’t even touch him I got smashed one mistake and it was game over
      Thank you for Reply :)

The problem is that i am overwhelmed sometimes and just dont know what to do, because (my opionion) i do not know the opponents character, what that character can do and my punishes to surten moves and so on and on of course. Is there a shortcut how to get into the game considering this thought to be a problem?

      If you go to a foreign country let's say for this example Iceland. You learn the fundamentals like the alphabet, some grammar, a few easy words like "market" "bathroom" "restaurant." What do you do when you arrive in the city where everyone only speaks Icelandic, speak very quickly, uses words you don't understand? This is the problem you are encountering in Tekken. The analogy I am giving with languages and Tekken are linked. It takes "time" and "practice" to get good at a language, but then it becomes second nature. Right now you are probably 1 or 2 years into playing Tekken maybe less is my guess, and it will just take dedication to practicing learning moves of the characters. Are there are a lot of characters in this game and lots of moves? Absolutely, but no less than a new language. If you were to look up a dictionary or even look up common words that are spoken there are at least 800-1000 different words that are used in a day to day basis. So at the end of the day it comes down to how much you really want to learn this game, and how dedicated are you? The people who are really good at Tekken have stuck with this game, and practiced. Those who quit were the ones who couldn't continue. I hope this helps.

      @@PeterYMao Thanks Peter, yes, sure it helps and i guess, thats what everybody knows, but it's of course not what i hoped to hear in the search of a shortcut ;) so it's practice and practice and practice and..... well, and try not to get frustrated.... thats the main part i guess....

    My big problem is not practicing enough or learning about frames.

    i am currently struggling to get out blue and i really think i perhaps have too few attacks.
    i have two launch combos. like 4 string and that is about it. even tho i can wiff and block punish and all this stuff after a few matches i think i get too predictable

      That is possible that you are predictable, but at the same time you might need to expand your key moves. Some characters have more than others.
