- Can Anyone Speak Gàidhlig at the Highland Games? | I asked a bunch of people at the 2023 Loch Norman Highland Games in NC if they spoke Gaelic. While I didn't meet anyone from Scotland, I did find quite a few folks who are interested in learning Scottish Gaelic.

I bought a "learn Gaelic" book a couple of years ago when I was watching "Speaking Our Language" on BBC Alba a lot. But the book didn't explain Gaelic spelling at all or where silent letters come or even what slender and broad means, so I was a bit confused...
I'm in London and we can watch BBC Alba and S4C (the Welsh channel) on satellite. Even if you're not interested in the languages you can see some gorgeous scenery on those channels.👍
Slainte means "cheers", and Slainte Mhath is "good health." I also, want to promote Scottish Gaelic, but I'm not sure how to do it efficiently. At the Scottish Games do I sit at the Mac Donald booth, and hand out information for free on-line courses (if a person is interested) or do I walk around talking to people? What do you think? David!

haha, this reminds me of a time a guy at the gas station (in the US) had a Gaeilge bumper sticker, so I go up to him and say “Dia duit!” and he stares at me. So I asked, “An bhfuil Gaeilge agat?” and he just stares at me. So I switch to English, I said Hello, do you speak Irish…You have Irish on your car there, so I thought you might know it. hahahaha NOPE! That was akward.
Yikes! This has happened to me too, with both people from Scotland and Ireland.
Well sir I don't mind such challenges Gaelic/ Celtic????? those close related languages are as multiple as Spanish choices. and I don't speak Gaelic but I can easily read those words if written briefly in folklore. Gallic/ Galician/ Gaelic/ Celtic including Italian I can feel my relationship reading similarly pronounced words. or studying culture secrets of the past.

I am Scottish… don’t speak one single word of Gaelic and am now becoming very aware of that fact, and feeling very ashamed of that… if an American tried to speak to me in my native language and i don’t have a clue how to say anything I would be very disappointed in myself… 🤦♂️ I think I better make an effort to learn some of it.
I honestly think that is such a good like reason to learn lmao being flexed on in your ancient native tongue by someone from another country I'd feel like such a lemon

7:46 Maybe he was talking about Tong on the Isle of Lewis? It's in the Western Isles/Outer Hebrides, which is still the strongest Gaelic-speaking area today. Plus, Donald Trump's mother was from Tong, so he might have thought that you've heard of it.
