Fascinating to watch the practicality of owning an older Rolls. Like you, owing a Rolls is on my bucket list. (Which is so stupid but I can’t help myself.)
These cars are kind of amazing feats of engineering. Ownership is still new enough that when I get behind the wheel, I am pretty anxious about how it's running. I'm told that goes away after a year or so. These mid 80's Spirits and Spurs are remarkably affordable to buy. The trick is finding a good one that has been driven and maintained. I'm very glad I bought mine, and enjoy it every time I get behind the wheel. Even when it broke down in traffic...it was an "adventure".
Hello, enjoyed your upload on your spur.i have a 1989 spirit.superb cars.the wheel nuts are clockwise to undo so that as the car rolls forwards the nuts are allways tightening and not loosening, with a rolls royce its all in the details.
Check the ago of that spare. They haven't made those Goodyear NCT white wall tires for a long long time. The rubber is probably very hard by now and could be a blow out hazard. That could be a disaster at highway speed especially on a steer tire. The one you took off could probably be patched for about $30 and be much safer. Take it to a tire shop and have everything looked over. Otherwise we'll done. Wasn't so hard.
Thanks for commenting! That spare was only on the car long enough to get it to the mechanic. I've got new Hancooks in front and the repaired Hancook as a spare. Some day I'll spring for Avon's but not right now.
I was the public relations manager of the Company in the 1970s. Thank you for your video. As we used to say, the only way to change the tyre in a Rolls-Royce is with a telephone! Warm regards
I think if I had to do it again, it would be easier. But it certainly was a chore. If I did get a flat on the highway, I'd definitely be using my cell phone! Thanks for commenting!
Looks like you have 1986-90 Chevy Caprice wheel covers with RR emblems replacing the ones that originally said “Caprice”. I hope you are able to find some correct Rolls wheel covers as you work to restore this beautiful car! Good luck with it! 👍😀
Hello, David. I responded to another post of yours after your first drive of your Rolls. You mentioned Avon tires here somewhere. Just so you know, I had 4 new Avons put on my 1989 Bentley Turbo R about 3 years ago, and the total cost for the tires and installation was $2,800.00. When I bought the car it had 24,000 miles on it, and it still had the original Avons. Not too bad for a big heavy car. How are you liking the car so far?
Thanks for asking, Mike. I am loving the car. I'm still in that stage of "new car anxiety" that comes with buying an older vehicle. But the more familiar I get with the car, the more I relax. It is fun to drive, handles remarkably well, and rides like a dream. It gets a lot of attention and I've had some interesting conversations with people asking about the car. I'm really glad I bought it.
G'day,... you could have used a tyre plug to seal the leak and just pumped up the tyre again, no changing wheels. Get yourself a air compressor and a plug kit. Very easy to use. Aussie.
Good question. I think the Turbo R came with locking wheel covers. Removing those would be different from my after market wheel covers. It should, I think, otherwise be the same. I'm sure a Bentley owner would be able to correct me. Be sure you get the jack correctly located at the designated jack point. Check your owner's manual. The RR manual was very helpful in guiding me through the process.
Thanks I just bought a ‘81 Spirit with a flat, learned something 👍
Sweet! I hope your tires are newer than mine.

Easier than I'd have thought.
Reminds me of my 1966 Imperial and 1973 New Yorker, both clock-wise to loosen.
Nice car!
Thanks! I'll be making more videos about this car. It is a sweet ride!

I feel your pain mate I've had two flats in the last ten days.
Oh, that sounds like a conspiracy. What are the paving the roads with? Nails and broken glass?

Keep up your RR Spur videos really interesting and there isn’t lot of owner videos on them on here.
Thanks! I hope to be making videos about this Rolls and what it's like to own, drive, and maintain these cars, for quite some time!

I just learned a ton, thank you..
So did I! Thank goodness the car still has it's original owner's manual and the tools.

Good eye! Yes, these are aftermarket wheel covers. They were on the car when I bought it. I will be looking for some correct wheel covers for the car.

If it had been a newer tire I would have. But they were at least 12 years old. They needed to be replaced anyway.
Would an '89 Turbo R be the same ?

Ma786sai Dua God bless you. I have a Spirit Mark 1 a 1982 and wanted to learn about this vital aspect. Cyrus
