I have a closed top aquarium I had suicidal fish that jumped out of the aquarium, my two cats love to jump to the top of the aquarium whenever I am distracted, so for me it is a must have.
To prevent jumpers from venturing out, try making a diy cover out of window screen frames (can be cut to size and fitted with corners) and translucent mesh. They are common in the US because there are window screens in other countries for reasons I can't fathom.
I just set up a gorgeous rimless aquarium and I don't want a lid on it. I opted to leave a few inches of space when filling it hoping that will help prevent my betta and neons from jumping out. I really want to keep it this way.
I live in a cold country and the heater have to work harder with open top .I cannot afford to heat my house to 80 degrees, during CANADIAN winters. Plus that is to warm for me to be comfortable. There is more evaporation, and the risk of pets and dust. And as mentioned jumpers. And rimless are not more affordable where I live . They are considerably more expensive. I love you set ups but I don’t know if that would work for me.
Same where I live, its very dry and cold in the winter. Some of my tanks can lose 1" or 2.5cm every two days so topping off becomes a chore as well as removing the hard water stains. I'd like to learn to diy acrylic lids. Currently I have diy greenhouse plastic lids.
Hey i was wondering where you get your rimless tanks because every time i look for them they are always much more expensive than the black plastic rim ones at pet smart and petco
i prefer open-top aquariums but because of the filter I use open top there's a lot of "splashing" of water resulting in the surrounding area becoming wet.
I have been thinking about this. I have cloesed top juwel aquarium, 90gal. And the selection of good lights you can choose is limited or expensive. I'm considering going topless but I fear of huge water evaporation and humidity in my living room. I'll have to figure something out... Also I have a lot of cory fish that like to jump for air once a while. And SAE occasionally jumps.
I have an open tank in my bedroom. Just wondering how safe it is when it comes to water evaporation or the smell which sometimes comes from it, especially in a new setup. What do you think?
"I like to keep things low budget" - Camera pans over an ADA tank. Is there a higher budget brand than ADA that I do not know about. I'm only teasing, ofc, love your content and advice but I found that exceptionally ironic.
I love open tank, but it depends on which fish you have inside. Trigonostigma heteromorpha are jumper so it is too dangerous without a cover. Have you got a tip or trick for these kind of fish to not let them jump out?
Few things you can try, 1: use some floating plants 2: make sure the flow is not too strong 3: keep a few centimeters between the water level and the top of the aquarium 4: Don't spook them, so a slow ramp up and down of your light helps a lot.
It's very timely that I saw this video again... I bought cardinal tetras to replenish the remaining 2 that I still have (was 15 more than 2 years ago) this weekend and 4 had jumped out already! I need a solution that doesn't block the light!
Good video MJ. I just got an Eheim Proxima 250 to be used topless. I chose this series because the tank has a pool design (i.e. without braces) . And it's much cheaper than an ADA...
In my opinion the rimless aquarium are beautiful. I just bought a Landen 30 gallon rimless aquarium and I'm so glad I spent the extra money for a better aquarium. And I most say I prefer an open top aquarium. Great video and content. Well done mate
@@brycemacdougall6162 I’ve read nothing but good reviews, the quality seems great. I’m looking at getting a 55 and almost did the petco Aqueon sale but think I’ll save my money and invest in something of more quality
I see you have a variety of tanks there. Can you share some advantages/ disadvantages of a large glass bowl to use as a betta tank vs cube as far as aquascaping.
are the identicle gallon size rimless tanks the exact same inside dimensions of a rimmed tank of the same gallon size ? are they standard sizes regardless of rimmed and non rimmed.
What about an acrylic lid for your aquarium??? I have a rimless glass aquarium, but i'm planning in some days to close the lid :). A high quality plexiglass or lexan panel that you could cut to your needs costs here about 10-20E...if you cut it by yourself :D.

@@MJAquascaping thanks, just ordered the 58. Btw, are open tops dangerous for fish if dust or maybe perfume etc gets into the water? My tank is in the bedroom.
update....removed the canopy but did install the 1x1 net above the aquarium . This way I see everything from the top but wish won't be able to jump. Easter maintenance too......:)
The U.S. market is exactly the opposite of the Netherlands, apparently. Rimless tanks are much more expensive here. Also, I have cats - and I don't like seeing cat hair floating around in my aquarium.
Dennerle nano aquariums come with an optional glass top. You forgot two major downsides to open tops: Cats and Dust.
Lol 😂
I have both but choose to let the tanks breathe. Mesh tops FTW!
I have a closed top aquarium I had suicidal fish that jumped out of the aquarium, my two cats love to jump to the top of the aquarium whenever I am distracted, so for me it is a must have.
I prefer the look of open top aquariums but I think a lid is better for peace of mind.
Also flies and moths land in open top tanks in the summer.
Yeah totally agree with you
glad i discovered this channel, watching every video one by one! thanks for the great content

Has anyone considered using a half sized lid? Enough space to have options for positioning lily pipes, and still some protection for fish that jump

Hey there, where can i buy the VIV aquariums in the Netherlands or Europe in general? any hints appreciated
I have a 60cm tank. Should i go for 48cm light or 58cm? The clips are extendable. You think 58cm would be too big to fit?
Both should be good! The 58cm will fit. the 48cm might not give enough light on the edges.

Chihiros C2 and C2 RGB

Do you think it’s worth it to have 3% more clarity on a low iron tank for an average of 8x the price?
I don’t think so 🙃
It’s also depends on the thickness of the glass.

Yeah they always do
Your Dennerle tanks are closed-top. Ppl lookig for best of both worlds could consider that.
