  • This CPR video demonstrated by Linda Nylander-Housholder, APRN. shows step by step how to perform CPR on a child (1 year old to puberty). If the child is not breathing and unresponsive, performing CPR can keep him/her alive until Emergency Medical Services (911) arrives. This
    Nicklaus Children’s Hospital video follows current CPR guidelines from the American Heart Association.

      I'd recommend that you check out choking videos in addition because if there's an object stuck, it'll prevent airflow and might make it worse. There's a couple extra steps if you think there's something blocking the airway, but you're a good older influence for thinking about them. ❤

    A few errors:
    1) Pulse needs to be checked. CPR should only be only done if there is no breathing AND no pulse. If there is a pulse but no breathing, then you have to do what is called "rescue breaths".
    2) Arms need to be straight.
    3) Nose is pinched during the breaths, but has to be unpinched between each breath. You want to make sure that the victim can fully take in air.
    Honestly it's kind of irresponsible that a hospital channel has this kind of video up that doesn't take the proper steps....any CPR may be better than no CPR and one could still be protected under the Good Samaritan Act, but its extremely important to stay properly informed to save a life.

      I thought the same thing until I realized there is a difference between Non-Provider CPR (First Aid CPR/AED) and Provider CPR (Basic Life Support). For people that do not provide hands-on patient care, they are not to check a pulse because they do not have anatomy & physiology training. Those that do provide hands-on patient care are to check the pulse.

      @@aquiconlayuli there is a difference between provider cpr and lay person cpr. This is for lay people. The AHA does not recommend a pulse check for the layman as they can be difficult to find, compression time is wasted looking for one etc. This was taught correctly as the audience was not intended to be direct patient contact healthcare providers. This was intended for gym teachers, daycare workers, etc.

      30 compressions and 2 breaths. The depth should be no more than 2 inches deep. If they are a small child use one hand if bigger use two hands. Let chest recoil. Quality compressions are important to ensure adequate circulation. I hope this helps

    • @ryancumbie8148
      @ryancumbie8148 3 роки тому +1

      That’s also an okay way to do it. If a child stops breathing it is likely because they have a respiratory failure and not a heart failure like an adult. Children do not have a higher lung capacity, it’s much smaller. You can use one or two hands depending on your preference, as long as you get deep enough and go fast enough. Both are okay. You’ve been taught a different but absolutely valid way to do child CPR and that’s okay. Follow your training or follow the instructions of a 911 (999) dispatcher should you be in that situation.

      You begin with 5 compressions for any asphyxia, child or adult. As a child is more likely to be suffering an asphyxiation rather than a cardiac issue, we always start with the 5 rescue breaths, then the standard 30:2, compressions to breaths.
