- A documentary about Frank W. Ballou High School in Washington D.C.
Members of the Ballou Senior High School Marching Band rise above their violence-filled Washington, D.C., neighborhood in this documentary, which follows the group as they try to achieve their dream of winning the national marching band competition. Inspired by their tireless director, Darrell Watson, and helped by a dedicated team of volunteers, the musical teens put their heads, hearts and souls into making the band the best it can be.
Now on DVD www.balloumovie.com
I’m a current tuba player at the new ballou and Mr. Watson is just the best, I love watching how he still acts the same way in the past and present.
brings back so baby memories
I really miss this school. Mr. Watson was one of my favorite teachers there.

My old high school. Played sax/clarinet in the early 80s at this school. Gotta Love B-A-L-L-O-U
My cousin was in this joint. But as many times I've seen this. I never heard that one trumpet gettin up there. But Ballou's band is a gem of our dmv area
I used to play here...truly some of the best times of my life...
Used to do my homework listening to Ballou band (early 80's)...lived near. And today, I still do.
My cousin went here and that girl Marquita in this movie lived in my neighborhood.
And to think I went to this school from 2016 all the way to like 2019 and a lil bit of 2020
My Alma Mater year 2000. I love and miss Ballou. ❤
Thanks for posting this. Takes me back to my own hs days. Some days i wish i could relive that time.
As a former band student from down south I can really appreciate the accuracy of everything highlighted in this documentary. This is very inspirational and is making me consider re-volunteering with my high schools band program.

Is this the school with a 100 percent grad rate? I can see why, these people are like family pulling together. Absolutely amazing
I wish other schools would pull together like you guys! Congrats 🎉🎊🎈

Did each student in this documentary have to sign a hold harness agreement and what agreements or paper work was needed to film inside the school?
You need to find a way to contact the producer of the film. It was uploaded 10yrs ago was made a few year before that.
There are some students who commented..maybe ask them their experiences?
Man I don't care what my issues are as parent...I will never put my kids in position to have to choose between doing something they love that improves them and open opportunities. That kid should have had to quit to attend to adult problem a and responsibilities.
