- Darrell Watson is the bandleader for Ballou High School in Washington D.C. This amazing educator has given so much to his students, and today, Ellen wanted to give something back to him.
Ellen is truly an inspiring woman,
what she has done to help the world is incredibly amazing.

When I see these happy people with their compassion and passion, a tear starts forming. It's an amazing feeling to know that it realy exists people who care, especially this needy man! More of him would do no harm! Respect to you Darrel watson!

You are not the only one I almost did, but I held back my tears. I'm just so glad to see that the school is getting a lot of good feedback now a days just because that school is located in one of the roughest neighborhoods DOES NOT mean that everyone who graduates is thug material and want to shoot, kill, do drugs, fight, etc.
I love this! Positive things happening for a community in need.
As a Ballou SHS alumni. I am truly blessed to say I am from SE and graduated from that school. Mr. Watson is a role model for us all and I would like to congratulate him for all that he's done for the school keep up the good work and watch out for all haters because no matter where you go you are going to have them :-) #Ballou4life
I've known Mr. Watson ever since I was in middle School ('91)... I think he had to be a senior at Ballou. He used to compose music for my band... which was also his former middle school. We attend the same schools (just many years apart), so even when he went off to college, he always came back to assist the band. He is a great composer and musician. I still see him from time to time and he has not changed after all these years. I couldn't think of a more deserving person.
Only Ellen can make a big guy like that cry, bless you Ellen!

I wish I had a band director who cared about the kids. I hate mine so much. All he says whenever someone speaks to him is, "I don't care." He's told me I don't care what you have to say and I never will. I've done nothing to him. He's just mean to us, and I've lost my passion for band unfortunately because of my director. Kudos to this guy for being so caring :)
