It's the school of thought that if I'm not gonna knock him out why would I throw it? They don't see the jabs use as a foundational strike to build off of and how amazing it is even by itself

One of my favourite jabs is the “backfist” jab to the eye(aimed at right side/left eye of opponent, vice versa in southpaw), Lenox Lewis was really good at this. Blinds them really well and if you throw a “lazy” version you can really set up a power right hand. Also odd angle for the opponent to block.

2:10 in my op, hand should go from guard to punch in straight line, or you are telegraphing. Its a common mistake to pull down or back the hand before punching...
And you lower your guard before a very basic and counterattacable move like a jab.

Good video Jeff, but I really wouldn't call the last jab a "hammerfist jab".
The hammerfist is normally when you strike with the bottom of your fist (opposite side of the thumb) kind of like if you were holding a knife upside down and stabbing with it.
The motion you're showing really has nothing in common with a hammerfist since you're not striking with the same part nor with the same trajectory/mechanics.
Most people call the third jab a "vertical jab" because it's simply a jab with your fist tilted thumbs up instead of thumb sideways.

Hey Jeff, I come from a boxing back round, don't know if this is a MMA thing as I've not really done it but after your jab you should try push back to your stance from the ball of your lead foot not your heel.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I do believe you could be caught stuck in the mud if the right opponent catches you out while you're on that heel retreat. Hope this helps improve your game, keep up the videos dude always get some nice tips here and there when I pop by :)

Jeff...I love your stuff, it's always great.
Can I just say that on both your power jab and hammer fist jab, you are telegraphing it every time by cocking your first before you throw it.....you drop it six inches....shouldn't be a problem if you mean to do it, but I don't think you are.
Your flick jab is it basically a backfist? You're dropping your hand after every one...again, shouldn't really be a problem as you say you throw it as you're moving back...but still, for a demo...

You may want to start with boxing or muay thai....because the older you get, the more subconsciously afraid you become of being hit....so, it's a little harder to get good at it when you're older.
Also, judo or wrestling are easy to pick up the younger you are in part due to the same reasons...a fear of getting slamed through the air into the ground.
