    Various shots showing American soldiers advancing along the roads to Cherbourg, locals watch them as they go through it. M/S of buckled railway line blown up by allies. C/U sign reading 'Montebourg'. Various shots as one soldier throws a hand grenade into a house, and street fighting occurs to flush out remaining Germans. M/S burning house, various shots as fires rage through part of the town, and buildings catch light very quickly. Day and night shots of the fires.
    Various shots of the villagers appearing from underground shelters the following morning. They then set about preparing meals, cooking the food in rough open kitchens. Various shots of the villagers. M/S of the sign for Lingevres, it has been completely destroyed and wrecked tanks are strewn about. M/S of bombed out church. Allies shell German positions. More shots of wrecked buildings. Various shots of Tilly also devastated by the war, various shots of allied snipers waiting. Engineers check for mines left by Germans as they advance.
