It’s such a shame that companies are raising their prices so much. I cap my palettes at $50, I just cannot spend more than that on cosmetics or skin care. I’ve been passing on so many new releases. Sad in the moment, but it does allow to re-enjoy what I have.
I think you can always get something at a discount if you can time it right. You just have to put off the initial purchase. It’s been v helpful for me as stops impulse purchases and sometimes I go off wanting things. Eg the ND dream palette. Fell for that on release. Don’t want it anymore. Delighted I didn’t buy it.

Every single industry is raising their prices. But cosmetics are a luxury and most priced at the luxury level have always been overpriced for what they area. In today's saturated market, you can find inexpensive makeup that gets the job done perfectly well, but people buy luxury makeup as much for the feeling as the product itself.
Companies adjust to inflation.
I just saw the new Lisa Eldridge eyeshadows and they look spectacular! I think they're $68 too and I would happily pay that cause the formulas look so good!
I love an honest opinion and you captured really well how patchy the light matte shadow applied. And yes, a palette at this price point should be more close to perfection.

Yes. Now that the new Lisa Eldridge palettes have arrived (or will be available later today), I am interested in trying HER formulas. She also is selling her shadows individually so you can swap around your shadows to suit your colour story taste.

The mouse is more afraid of you. They are very sweet, loving and playful. They sleep in a circle with the noses touching in the center. So cute! Get a live trap and place peanut butter inside. Then take it back into nature and release within about a mile so as not to disorient the little darling.❤
Honestly I'm really happy for this review :) I've been back and forth about whether to get this palette or not (because I'm trying to be more mindful with my purchases) and this solidified that I will not! Thank you Amanda for your honest thoughts... hope you caught that mouse!!

How to get rid of the mouse: buy some strong natural peppermint oil and soak cotton balls or paper towels with it. Place them in the areas where the mice may be entering. They hate it and it will drive them away. Makes the house smell good too! Please review some of the Lisa Eldridge palettes, I'd love to know what you think about the performance and quality.
Mice always come in twos, if you catch one, there are likely more (they like to be in mating pairs). In addition to P S's comment, doing preventative things once you catch them all, like sealing any gaps you have between your floor and walls and under doors to the outdoors. Also checking your foundation for holes where they can get in. They sell foundation spray at home improvement stores that you want to spray in the early spring and early fall, (especially fall because that's when they like to get inside the nice warm food supplied house). Mouse traps work best to get rid of them, peppermint is another good deterrent though, I use pure Castile soap (peppermint) diluted in water to mop my floors and it helped when I used to live in a mouse area (you can also make a room spray and spray down carpets after you vacuum). Now I use cedar oil, because I live in a cockroach area, woohoo 😑.
Just be careful with the mint around dogs- it's toxic to them

Honestly, I swear by the no kill traps baited with cheese. Mouse goes in but can’t get out, just check the trap daily so you don’t end up with a dead mouse and you can carry the mouse in the trap to wherever you want to release it. They can find their way back from quite a distance so I like releasing them at least a mile away. Then check to see if you can find where they got in. Last time it was some old pipes that were no longer in use under the kitchen sink that hadn’t been capped. 75¢ cap from the local hardware store sorted it.
Yeah no, that doesn't work. At least not on Dutch mice. Only thing that works is sealing every tiny hole you can find.
I’m SO glad you showed the matte shades showing the lines on your hand because the majority of looks I’m seeing on the beauty UA-camrs I watch, I feel like I can see every little line on their eyelids. Even the ones in their 20s. I’m 35 and I was thinking this wouldn’t be flattering on my aging eyes for long. Also, I have a ton of my favorite brown matte shades and a few sparkly shades with very little base and have been loving duping the vibes of this one and I get to keep my $68

Yes, I thank UA-camrs for bringing out that creativity in myself all the time! Anyone who's been using eyeshadows for a few years likely already has every shade they could want - so just take a little time to play!
Love your perspective! I also rushed to get this when I saw the color story calling my name. I did notice the mattes being a little “chalky” but I have been kinda liking it. Reminds me of some of my shadows from the 1990s. I also have oily lids.

I appreciate your opinions and the swatches next to ND helps me understand what you mean..that's why I buy palettes even if I own something similar but from different brands because the formulas vary. I'm constantly looking for those special formulas.
God I was just looking into getting my first eyeshadow palette and as a neutral cool toned girl who doesn’t like smoky eyes, I was looking at this over the Naked 3 and Huda Rose Quartz but cause this color story looks perfect for me too. I hope he reformulates it because it’s such a good color story.

That side by side with the ND Glam palette was so interesting and made your point extremely clear. I could even see it on my phone in the half screen mode.
I use my fenty diamond bomb as a topper all the time with my most trusted mattes. Your insert of the shades compared to the ND was very helpful. I have a bit of the crepe happening above my crease, so I need to trust that my matte shades are texture smoothing. Thank you 🎉

Thank you! I was about to take the plunge and buy it but I’m going to hold off due to what you said about the mattes. I’m also obsessed with the color story and those gorgeous glossy top coats but I really thought this could be my one and done palette. That’s what I’m looking for instead of pulling out like 7 different pallets. Btw, I ordered those cream bounce shadows from Ulta ( I think they’re called bounce shadows) anyways, I’m obsessed. They are so glossy and beautiful and I’ve recently been experimenting with doing an all over matte shade that I wouldn’t normally go for and then putting that on top. Love them!!!!

Huh. Thanks for the heads up. I hate the type of mattes that either float or sink into every crevice with no in-between. I’ve been using my old Urban Decay Naked basics 1 and forgot how much I love the colors, pigment, blendability, and versatility. I just add a pop of shimmer if I want to. Of ALL my pallets (granted I don’t own ND or Anastasia, or Pat M) but I have good basic ones. I love the smoothness and like to pat it on instead of swipe, then blend, because I can control the color better.
Today I duped the vibes with Pat McGrath. (Iconic illumination) Blitz brown, astral gold allure, (single) divine mink, and statuesque combined to be whette yet defined, aka, ethereal 😎
I think the mattes are similar to Viseart, Natasha Denona, and ABH. You're gonna get more of a blur from others but the effect is a similar sheer wash
I've always heard mixed reviews about the Makeup By Mario eyeshadow formulas. Thanks for giving your honest opinion! I also really love the colour story, though I wish it leaned even cooler toned (like the promo pictures show it) - in videos it looks a lot more neutral and brown, instead of mauve
New subbie here loving your content so far, I just purchased some of the sephora collection single eyeshadow the wet looking ones in particular shades: twinkle twinkle, party life, (I think if memory serves me) so Hollywood, and Shock Choc, I own a lot of the ND/ABH palettes already and was really considering buying this one but I'm really trying to be smarter about my purchases lately, so not buying this I mean I saved 30% with the sephora sale on those other single shadows and since I am only buying this palette for the wet special shadows I think this now would be an unnecessary purchase. Great review, so detailed! And a great way of talking myself down from this palette. I was so in love with the color story, but the truth is I’m just not into palettes, especially expensive ones.
I have normal skin and LOVE the matte formula in this palette. The glossy shimmers are okay but a bit glittery on me (I’m 43, so that may be why I think that). I like the metallics though. I also love the ND glam palette.

I did get the noveau palette with my Ulta points, and I’m thinking that was for better choice.

Interesting take. I have complete opposite skin type - normal to oily, and I like the mattes. I do always use a primer though, also. I like using the Sigma and Kaleidos primers with all my eyeshadows.

I am so happy to hear your review. I love the look of this palette but was trying to decide if it was really going to add anything to my collection. I live the shimmers but I really can’t stand mattes that are powdery or chalky or difficult to blend. I’ll stick with my hindash palettes for mattes and my urban decay moondust shadows for wet look toppers!

Random thought but I just got Natasha Denona Retro and I think there's some shades in there that are true Amanda shades. A wet looking pinky shade called Psychedelic, a metallic taupe called Jude, cool toned mauvey mattes that blend effortlessly, a few cream to powders. I don't know if the whole color story is your vibe but there's individual shades that are really making me think of shadows you've been loving, either in texture or color.
Amanda! I bought the palette and felt exactly the same as you. I own Pat, ND and Huda palettes and let me tell you, what you said about the mattes, is exactly how I felt. They also didn’t last more than 6 hours until fading away. Glam from ND and Space cowboy gives you the same vibe as the Ethereal palette. I compared! Haha

I felt exactly the same too! It was so refreshing to hear someone else have the same experience with this palette. These mattes look so dry on my lids and I can not get them to build on each other. Pat, ND & Huda are my top three and these mattes seem so problematic to me in comparison.
I have oily lids and I really like this palette so far, I have not had any issue with the mattes and love, LOVE the colour story. I felt like N Denona made my eyes look more wrinkly than this makeup by Mario !

Interestingly I felt very different about the mattes. My 53 yr old eyelids are neither very oily or dry- but are getting crepey. I thought the mattes were very smooth and buttery and blended themselves. On the flip side I don't care for the Pat McGrath mattes. I find them so pigmented and grippy that they are a chore to blend. I wish she included lighter mattes as well...
Hi! I'm older too and they totally also worked really well on me. I was suprised she didn't like the mattes. They're really soft and easy to blend. I think the Natasha Denona mattes the best out of all the options I've tried.
Relieved to see this. I’m 53 with oily eyelids and crepe-i-ness and I have a feeling I will get along well with this palette. It’s on its way to me right now.
I’m also seeing complaints about the kick-up but I have two Viseart palettes that perform beautifully on the eye and they have a lot of that as well, so I actually associate kick-up with quality, blendable shadows. 🤷🏻♀️ It’s not at all hard to manage kick-up with good technique and quality brushes.
I got the palette and ended up returning it for the same reason! I also felt like the glitter shades had a lot of fallout throughout the day. I couldn't build the matte shades up and it was extremely dusty in the pan. So disappointed! I think I was expecting them to be similar to CTs pillow talk or exaggerize quad
No one analyzes formulas like you do and you always amaze me! You talk makeup formulas like poetry 🥰🥰🥰🥰 I got the palette and loved it so far but didn’t compare to my high end palettes
I 100% agree, the mattes are too powdery and difficult to build up. It's too bad, this could have been a home run palette if the mattes had more body and performed better.
Have you tried the KVD Dazzel Stick???? I just tried it in the color "Hail Surge". It's one of the most beautiful shimmers I've tried. Similar to CT Cream shadows but it's very thin & stays on so well!

AMANDA are you able to show us a dupe in your collection for the top glitter (the champagne fine glitter) in the Ethereal palette? I LOVE it as an inner corner highlight with the middle glossy topper or Space cowboy over lid so if you can find me a dupe Ill return the palette cus I too dont love the mattes

Thanks for the on depth review! I was debating purchasing this palette already because the colors are so pretty but as someone with dark features, I love a matte black or matte dark brown and this palette doesn't have that. The shimmers look gorgeous but it will be a pass for me!
Yes girl!!! You’ve literally voiced my thoughts perfectly!! Im Asian and have medium complexion and those shades would look ASHY on my skin tone most likely. It’s a shame that there wasn’t a darker matte shade in there

Thank you Amanda for your honest opinion. Yes. You are right. At the price you pay for that MbM palette, you would expect the quality to be there in ALL of the formulas. You are right that the colour story is very versatile and the shimmers are beautiful, but...I'm not buying it.
Oily-skin girl here - these eyeshadows work very well on my eyelids, maybe because I have oily skin? They weren't chalky or dusty on me and blended well. I used an eyeshadow primer, Milani's, and they were a dream. So sad that they weren't a dream for you too since, like me, this palette just speaks to my soul. I'm so glad I purchased it.
Same. I have been enjoying these. I also have oily eyelids as well as oily skin in general.
I also have oily eyelids and haven’t had any issues with it (with or without primer)!
It's the worst when you have mice in creeping about leaving their miniature poo everywhere 😕 We have the electronic traps, they're pricey but get them overnight. Keep em on for a while though because if there's one there's prob actually 5 or more! Great review as always ♥️

I watched someone search this pallet agisnt the Tarte in bloom or blooming pallet and it was almost exact same color story. my mom asked for the in bloom pallet for Xmas which she already owns so I was considering getting this Mario pallet for her instead but idk now bc the price diff and if the matte isn't more flattering on mature skin might not be worth it. I'm torn.
Am not buying a lot of makeup right now. But I still wouldn't for $68, not from any brand. It does look beautiful tho. 😍 Thanks for the review.
Amanda, I found new L.A. Colors eyeshadow sticks that are 1.25$ (have pretty good ingredients), have light pigmentation but a lot of Shimmer which looks beautiful on the eyelids. I really like them. I bought the peach colored one and the dark brown one (I don't like that colour--I thought it was pewter colored in store). They have a bluish-green one as well which I might get. I thought about you when I put them on, because, you like Shimmer and glitter like me. So, I thought that I would share this info with you and with your viewers as prices of EVERYTHING including make-up, keep going up. Their lip crayons are beautiful as well and smell like Vanilla. The one named "So Snatched" matches my lip colour. 🙂

I opted out on this palette because I have pearl by Wayne Goss. I felt it was a more curated version of the Mario palette. I’m glad I did, saves me a returning trip to the mall.
Are there other neutral matte eyeshadow pallettes that you would recommend? I was looking into the makeup by Mario’s master matte palette but now I am unsure.

I can’t wait to return mine. The price doesn’t equate to the quality I expected as far as the mattes go. I have oily skin and I felt that it would not blend properly. I have tons of PMG and ND palettes and expected it to be more in line with their blendability. As gorgeous as the shimmers are, it’s not worth the extensive collection I already have just for these. So sad.
