So you're telling me that you were able to get this woman (who was obviously going through one of the worst days, and likely years, of her life) a wii for her terminal kid, got top sales for black friday, AND got to absolutely shit on what was probably a giant d-bag of a manager? Way to fuckin' go pumpkin, way to go

Good on you Pumpkin!!! Thank you for the story!
My mom had an encounter with some retail staff who pretended to be out of stock so they could purchase the items themselves. I'm inclined to think it's common.
Having worked retail, it is a common practice for people to find stuff they might want and set it aside, usually with Management not making a fuss so long as we bought the stuff after our next paycheck, but it would never fly for hot ticket holiday items. Atleast at the places I worked. Management will do whatever if they get a kick out of their authority though.
The thing is you should only be able to set it aside if it is being purchased THAT DAY or on next break. Otherwise that's an SOL situation. @@tonnentonie2767
That ish was crazy, everyone wanted a Wii but no one could get it. I sold mine for 200 bucks above market rate after 2 months (cause it was boring after that time).
Gotta realize too that this happen right around the ending of November, so close to that last possible holiday and that poor lady just wanted her son to be happy.
Okay, I'm putting this out here. That manager was trying to save a Wii for themselves and knew that if he didn't ride his employee's asses, they would give away what he perceives as his. He put that Mario edition Wii in a hiding spot so that he could buy it later which is usually very against any retail company policy for high in-demand product. He told his employees not to go looking for any more Wii units because he knew they'd find it if they were looking. He backed off of her only because he knew he didn't have a case and if he had pursued action, an HR investigation would likely happen internally and he'd lose his job. ((PS: Reserving yourself a high-demand item is one thing. Reserving yourself a Black Friday item is taboo.))
Friend of a gamestop employee: it is (and has been) 100 million billion percent against policy for them to hide anything for themselves that they can’t purchase day of (doubly so for consoles)
I was alive when Wii released, and i was trying to get one. We drove to 6 towns, 4 hours of drviing before we found one. there's no way in heck anyone workoing there was allowed to put any systems aside, nvm black friday
@@wonderland9601 No really one. Just a general experience. I was a manager at Game Stop. I was always honest with my customers. However, I can tell you how many managers hordered and held on to wIIs. You can look up another store's inventory anytime to see what they had in stock, and you would call, and they would like. I was like man says you have 6. They would say nope, then wait till end of day, buy them all themself, and sell them online for double the price. People wouldn't check things in or say the shipment was late just to hord these things. I use to give people numbers. Hey, we only have 12, they are in boxs of 3, so you all get one. first 12 people thats it. That being said there was one lady, Tressa, I would do anything for. She was like my second mom [my first mom being my friends mom, and my mom being just a birthing pod]. She would just bring us stuff in general, food, pizzas be nice to us, treat us like humans. So we did anything for her. Held Wiis, swapped games, discounts, free shit. she never wanted for nothing. So sometimes there really is nothing left, and sometimes the manager is a selfish liar. Especially with limited edition stuff like that. Thats why If I wanted something i would buy it on the spot, and walk it to my car. none of this hiding and holding. Aww, its been like 15 years I miss Tressa...
That's a beautiful story. The words "this'll be my sons last Christmas" is the saddest thing I've ever heard. I hope that woman is doing good and I hope that there was some miracle that made that little boy fully recover
As someone who once got officially reprimanded by a manager for "Helping customers too well" and "Making too many sales, thus making other employees look bad", this story resonates with me. As a fellow survivor of working retail on black friday, during the launch of the Wii no less, I salute you.
Wow, im sorry that my success highlights your inferiority complexes? Yikes. Maybe if more people followed your example they'd find more progress holy moly.
"ok cool, so will you pay me better if I do a worse job for you? I just want to help you out, whatever you need, man. You know what, I'll take a week of paid leave. Just imagine how great for the other employees' self-esteem that'll be."
It's more than possible that guy was hoarding the Wii so HE could play it, and he was probably threatening to fire you for "unsolicited sales", but you stood your ground, stuck to y our guns and told him what's what. I dunno if that's the ACTUAL reason, but it's the most plauisble one I could think of.
Despite not knowing the wii storm considering the ps5 and Xbox series X sells yeah he was definitely gonna try to keep that wii for himself if this was modern day he would’ve definitely been a buy then upsell to hell type person
Holy crap, a Rubberhose inspired Vtuber with a Halloween ascetic. It’s like all my favorite things in life just collided, Halloween, old-timey cartoons, a be kind or die trying attitude and a model smooth facial tracking. Thank you UA-cam recommended.
I like One (1) vtuber and it is this one 🖤 i am so used to people saying "my child has six different cancers and will die in a week" as a lie, an excuse to be selfish and entitled, but you can tell this woman was for once *actually going through it* and damn it she deserves that Wii. I hope her boy had a good christmas.
As a current GameStop employee, Pumpkin is exactly the type of people we love to work with and SHOULD be working with. People who love games, people who like to talk to others and create the fun, friendly community that gamers and families should have. My store is fantastic because we aren't just there for numbers, we all just like games. We create friendships with regulars and like helping people. The quality of service can vary a lot based on location. So much so, that it's strange to me to walk into an out-of-state GS and not get the same kind of welcome we give at my store. There is also a no-hold policy (occasionally we "work things out" and try to hold something small if the person is coming that day) but no one without a reserve is allowed to swipe up anything until the reserve period is over. Employees have to pre-order things like everyone else (which this manager should have been able to do, not sure why they didn't). My team lets each other know when cool stuff arrives or when they're on the hunt for something, but we know that if someone comes in or orders online we fulfill it. Plain and simple. Hope that selfish manager got what was coming to him.
The Gamestop in my town rejected me because I'm a woman, it was said vaguely but it was the main consensus as to why I was rejected, it's run by two elderly men who have no idea what they're doing when talking about video games and I feel bad for every female customer who went in there like me and got harassed and belittled, being told "women don't play video games".
@@AbadabaBoy lol yeah I'd never tell anyone it's the best job ever. But it can be a great part time place if your local ones are managed properly. I asked if they were hiring just because I wanted the employee discount! XD
@@BadBitchSarv That's disgusting of them.. regardless of the place, no one should be treated like that. It seriously grinds my gears that anyone with those type of views are still in the gaming community at all.. let alone running a store they aren't experienced with. My region is fairly lucky in this regard, with lots of women in key holder positions, as well as employees of various other genders. Nearby has been notorious for only hiring decent people with experience in gaming. I'm extremely sorry to hear your experience was so awful.. It's possible that if you know their names (if they're still working there) to send a complaint through customer service. They might get disciplined or penalized, especially since their crap behavior cuts out a big part of the demographic. Anyways, I hope you've found better game shops nearby and a good community to play with!
@@sunshinem.7741 I go to the pawnshops that sell video games instead of GameStop now, the GameStop is possibly closing down soon since they've been losing a lot of money with no customers, I just wish the people in charge would've hired more employees instead of being stuck up over women wanting to work there. The reason for no customers is the poor customer service with how long it takes the two guys to even ring up items, along with their blatant sexism and creepy comments towards women.
same here bro and if you don't mind me adding on, pumpkin even said it was one of the special Mario edition ones, so that also proves your point too, because (during that time) let's be real, *who wouldn't want a special edition Wii, let alone during black Friday?* (EDIT) just read the description and realized that this happened the year it came out, so I guess that also adds to my whole "Who wouldn't want the cool thing during black Friday?" point. (I think.)
As someone who's also worked retail, that was the sweetest and most satisfying outcome possible! Just imagining you drinking that hot coco with the words "Manager's Tears" written on the cup HAHA. Absolutely hope the best for that woman, where ever she may be now
I had a similar story working retail on one of the busier days of the year. I work at a department store where we were full of Christmas stuff and there was a huge line. So I’m checking out the customers when I get to this one older lady, we talk for a bit while I’m ringing her up and after she pays she gives me a little necklace of the Virgin Mary and a brochure for her church. I thought ‘oh wow! A gift for my mom, she might like this’ then 2 customers after her was this utterly distraught woman. Her eyes were crimson, she looked like she hadn’t gotten good sleep in a while. She had one of those angel statues you put out on your lawn in her cart. I asked her if everything was okay and she say “I’m so sorry, I’m a mess. It’s just I lost my daughter not even a few days ago and this angel statue just reminded me of her, like it was a sign from God that she’s okay now.” Now I’m not the most religious man, but this was one of those moments where it’s like ‘oh shit, am I one of those signs for this person?’ I say to the woman “I’m absolutely sorry for your loss ma’am, no one should lose their child, especially so close to the holidays. I don’t want to tell what you should or shouldn’t get, but I think you are supposed to have this.” And I give her the necklace. She utterly broke down, my manager came rushing down to see what’s going on and the woman said “your employee is a saint!” That’s one of my fonder memories working retail
Pumpkin is the pure embodiment of yin and yang with a sprinkle of fairy dust. No one should be afraid to help those in need regardless of what circumstance they're in, Even if it means going against your own superior to do so. We need more people like pumpkin! ♥️🤗
That, is the type of guy I want to be! As overly kind as I am, and despite not being the most confrontation heavy person, I do not want to hesitate to help people in need even if it means I get yelled at! (That being said, I don’t wanna go full on Jesus incarnate if I don’t have to. I already went through a point in my life where I struggled putting my own basic needs (physical, mental, and emotional) over others’, and even my parents had to tell me to chill out! I’ve gotten better at balancing both sides, and I’m currently working on maintaining my own happy medium, if that makes sense!😅) But yeah! I wanna be the nicest person I can be!!!
I know you won't see this, but THIS RIGHT HERE, is my DREAM interaction with a customer. As a GameStop employee, my favorite part of the job is being able to legitimately help people, whether it be a parent or whoever it is. These kinds of interactions are what make the job worth it to me. This story had me in tears and I pray for the time where I can make someone's day like this.
I suspect that Manager secretly wanted to buy that Wii at discount price. Hiding stock from the customers then going "oh, no one wanted to buy this, I guess I could take it off of your hands Gamestop-San
As an ex-retail worker, this is amazing. I have a simmilar story of my own, my customer was with her disabled father and her ex-husband was getting into her home via her son and it was scaring her and she didnt know what to do. So i told her about various locks my store sold, motion detectors, ring cameras, and showed her various numbers to call for other issues, and it seemed to help calm her down. She got locks, she called the numbers, and seems to be doing much better now. We both did good.
As a former retail worker (I had to work retail during covid, was not a good time to be a retail worker) my heart goes out to you for doing this nice thing for a lady going through so much.
actually insane to me that he wanted it and was still mad about it despite the lady getting it for her terminally ill child. absolutely ballistic. i can understand maybe wanting to keep something for yourself but if you see someone sobbing for it you march out there with that item and kiss it goodbye, with 0 resentment and attachment. he just sounds like a shithead manager
@@comfortme Oh, we have no idea if he hid it or not, I was just saying it'd be hilarious if he *did* hide it. He got mad because she left her station to look for more Wiis, she didn't follow orders from a higher up, despite, you know, doing her job.
@@Faxanadu_well, a lot of people in the comments seem to be on the same line, some that even worked in retail. So it’s very likely that he actually tried to pull that stunt
I feel so much for the mom 😭 Thank you so much for your kindness, that manager is an ass and a fool for not recognizing the tact you handled that situation with.
I have a very close friend at GameStop and showed him this video. He told me this is absolutely what you should do when you help a customer and the manager is a douchebag
Cynically speaking, if it’s going to be the kid’s last Christmas, $700 is cheap compared to what people normally spend on a kid’s basic needs over a year
standing up to corrupt management to do what you think is right. that deserves respect right there. I also like the cartoony theme you have going on and how much motion you actually have
I still remember the gamestop manager after I moved to a new city. Super nice, super help and always being chill. He got me the RDD complete edition for half off because he just wanted to make a sale and talk about things going on in gaming. I hope he's doing better at his new job. He deserves it.
Can I just say that you were FAR more composed during that manager pitching a fit than I would ever be? XD ESPECIALLY if I had an inkling that the manager was doing sketchy stuff with that Wii being hidden. You are a saint, and may your walk cycles always be fluid and forward!
Bet you dollars to donuts that the manager had stashed that Wii for himself. You not only made a little boys last Christmas extra special, but you also prevented a thief from snatching stock. Hope the mom is living her best life ❤️
god I don't miss working retail. not because of shitty customers. some of the best interactions were from grateful, kind customers that I was happy to help. Its bad management. A bad customer can ruin a couple hours or a shift. A bad manager ruins the entire job. Good on you for disobeying that shit manager.
So, this appeared on my feed out of nowhere, and I'm very glad it did. Because honestly, if there was ever a much needed sign that compassion and kindness are still very much alive in the world, this is it. Bless your sweet soul, you absolute queen.
That's such a sweet story. I'm so glad that you were able to help that mother and her family. Any manager being upset that you chose to help someone like that shouldn't be in their position. I hope that the Wii gave that boy a wonderful Christmas. I hope that the mother and the rest of her family are doing okay too.
I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate workers like you. I have never had a bad experience at a GameStop in my life because of people like you that work there. I hear so many bad experiences on the Internet about GameStop and it's employees that I think I live in some kind of Bermuda Triangle where all the GameStops around me are the best in the world. Thank you for everything you do.
Damn Pumpkin, you are a straight up Doll for helping that lady 😊❤ I understand making people's day because I work at Publix and just seeing if they need anything else with their order, or being patient with non-native speakers goes a long way.
You're a good woman pumpkin, I've heard horror stories of gamestop mainly about management from reddit but never have i heard of some manager getting pissy because you didn't do what he wanted you to do. Im glad to hear you stood up to him and didn't take any of his bullshit.
Best thing I EVER told management: "You are a supervisor. So supervise and get out of my way." My last manager lost their job after I quit, because they thought they were actually running the business, and everything went to shit.
That is so sweet! You made that lady’s year for sure! I’m sure she will remember you forever! Also that manager was clearly hiding that for himself! That’s so selfish
So glad my manager told us straight up “if you didn’t reserve on your own, you ain’t getting one. And if the higher ups deem it necessary you won’t be getting one until we have an abundance.” My manager was awesome because that mentality made the customers trust us. We even got threatened once I told a person in line “Do you think I want to sell this to you knowing I can’t play it until I can afford it!? I value having food a lot more”. The store was just in a bad area.
i am so ruined by customers by knowing that people would try and guilt trip you and manipulate you, so i wanted to later find out that i was right.. but it is soo tear jerking in the end.. the manager did not make a good call on making a big deal because it was morally right and that is better on customer service and employee moral
I hope that manager dude had a miserable Christmas and has never had a good once since. What an absolute Scrooge to act like that. I hope he looks back on that someday and admits he was wrong.
It’s crazy how so much more emotion is conveyed through her model on top of just hearing her voice. I was FULLY invested in this story, probably because I could see her face’s micro expressions (at least the model’s attempts). Amazing how technology can connect people
New to this channel, loved the story and i got tear eyed! You go girl. I freaking relate to having a major a-hole of a boss that dosn't have a heart. Lemme tell you a story. My previous workplace, a Restaurant in a suburban area on a Thursday or something in the spring last year. Buisness as usual, going between the register and the kitchen doing some minor tasks. Then a customer, an elderly woman who went in with an elderly man (who had purchased food and were sitting down) soon rushed to the counter with her phone in her hand. She gave it to me, turns out it was the paramedics who needed to speak to somone who knew first aid, as it turns out without us knowing the elderly man had collapsed during his dinner. I yeeted myself out to the corner of the restaurant and stabilized him. He was 'only' unconcious and seemed fine otherwise. So I further stabilized him as he woke up, calmed him and told him everything was gonna be fine and what just had happened to him. Really fun personality on that old geezer. In his 70s and was fit like Chuck Norris. And as the paramedics show up, I hear my bastard of a boss screaming from the kitchen in the restaurant towards me: "DO YOUR ING JOB DON'T STAND THERE". I speak to the paramedics and give them the rundown of what happened and what I did before I went back to the kitchen. Thereafter I confronted my boss, who was making his own freaking food rather than answering the register's phone himself. Told him that he should be ashamed and that you should prioritize the life of an actual living person (let alone a customer in your establishment) and not disregard his medical attention because someone wants to order food (something he could have managed himself). He screams crap at me, stuff about how I "always disobey him" and alot of other total bull. I told him to shove it, simple as. I was already going to quit anyway. So before they left, one of the paramedics gave me a big thumbs up and a silent thank you to be read on his lips from the other side of the establishment before they left. All in all, the lesson is to help people and tell your boss he's an a-hole 😅
As someone who was around 12 when the Wii came out I can confirm how LONG THE DAMN LINES WERE. It took TEN STORES ACROSS THREE STATES for a SINGLE one and we were like $100 short
I've never worked register or had something as crazy as that happen, but I worked 6 years part and full time in a retail grocery store company. Didnt take me till my full-timing in Produce to realize how much it sucked ass. That said, these types of customers and making their day is always a pleasure. You really are a wonderful lady. Bless you, pumpkin. Rock and stone.
this is the EXACT thing with the numbers at microcenter and it worked well. A lady was like...."why didn't you just let us rush in and get them" like no...... ur not gonna wreck our store
Reminds me of the time when I was working at McDonald's and I was supposed to be working drive for one of the two lanes. Yet a lot of things for the front counter and front drive were out and I was constantly running back to grab stuff since no one else was doing it. The floor manger was upset at me for leaving my post and doing the things that no one else was doing and still keeping up with the amount of costumers coming through drive. After a while in our busiest time she told me to stay in one place or she'll write me up and that's what I did. If I'm taking orders at the front and drinks are backed up I would hop around and start making the coffee, smoothies, frappes, ice cream, and that floor manager hated that too. So she threatened to write me up if I were to leave my post again. Later on in a busy moment and following her orders she started wondering why I wasn't helping out with the drinks. I figured that she didn't want me to do anything else because I would make her look bad (since she was just standing at one station not doing anything else). Then she yelled at me for not helping out with the drinks and then sent me to back drive. I decided to give her the bird before I went back there. I got sent home after that, and that was the last day I worked there. Years later I found out that one floor manger was the one stealing money from the safe in the office. How, you ask? Well she left the local MCD's and started to work at the one in the next city over, only to start stealing it from there. Not only was that the supervisors favorite, but I also flipped off the thief as well. Isn't irony cruel in the best kind of way sometimes? The long story short, sometimes it's better to still do your own thing even when the manger tells you not to, because it really is more for the costumer and not them. Having a costumer friendly approach (whether if it costs the company money or not) can be truly the best approach to things, and will benefit you in the long run!!
Man that reminds me of when I worked at a Gamestop and Disney Infinity had JUST released 2.0's huge Avengers box set with all the Avengers characters on a stand fighting an ice giant or something. Similar to your story a woman came in tears asking if we had one cause her kid was gonna be home for 3 weeks due to an injury and she didnt want them to get too bored or depressed thinking about it. I told her that if I couldnt find one, id personally call every store on the list to see who did and ask them to hold it. Manager got pissed cause we couldn't find the keys to get the door open to the back room, so i did what i promised and called everyone until luckily the one a few streets down had the item and she thanked me for almost ten minutes before leaving. I get written up by the manager for "losing a sale" but then right after he finishes the note....he found the backroom laniard of keys around his neck MIXED IN his laniard of id badge and keys he always carried. This same dude also told me to NOT help a couple who were just browsing, but because i walked up and talked them through their likes/dislikes and genuinely wanted to help them, i made the store $200 in used games.
Can't believe I only just discovered you, but in any case, way to go, Pumpkin! You made that poor woman's day, stood up against a bad manager, and got the best sales of that week!

The story, the retelling, your voice and pacing, your avatar as a great match with your casual sass, your personality for having done this for the customer and giving the manager the polite retail version of a flip-off, just... everything. This was the Tuesday night 'ugh I have work tomorrow' pick-me-up I needed at 11pm. I shall return to sip upon these videos some more >:3
I am speechless! I'm glad for you sticking up for your morals, glad you seem to have left GS if the manager was gonna chew you out for being a good person, hope the woman and her family is OK
I have a mild chocolate allergy, and I'm not big on hot drinks. But, no joke, I'd have downed it in front of her and pretended it was the best thing I'd ever put in my mouth, even if it burned the hell out of me. Hope she's doing alright, wherever she is.

That is 100% what happened, I have no doubt.
I think it should be company policy that everyone can set anything beside, as long as you buy it. If I work there I at least want access to the stuff.

Improved sales, stuck it to stupid management, and helped a family going through it find happiness. That's a pretty good day to hold on to.

I think it should be perfectly fine

exactly what i was going to say.
Yup. As a former GS manger. Thats how its done. You dont just forget a red mario wii like that
@@pugpug4430 you got a interesting experience to share with the class?

Considering how most of the comments here came to a similar conclusion to yours, I’d say it’s probably the most plausible answer.
Despite not knowing the wii storm considering the ps5 and Xbox series X sells yeah he was definitely gonna try to keep that wii for himself if this was modern day he would’ve definitely been a buy then upsell to hell type person

Ngl that starting sentence made me start think you were able to advertise working at one xd
The second I heard “hidden behind boxes” I knew right away the manager was hiding it for himself
same here bro
and if you don't mind me adding on, pumpkin even said it was one of the special Mario edition ones, so that also proves your point too, because (during that time) let's be real, *who wouldn't want a special edition Wii, let alone during black Friday?*
(EDIT) just read the description and realized that this happened the year it came out, so I guess that also adds to my whole "Who wouldn't want the cool thing during black Friday?" point. (I think.)
Limited edition, too. That's a whole different kind of low.
I applaud you.
I’ve gotten better at balancing both sides, and I’m currently working on maintaining my own happy medium, if that makes sense!😅)
But yeah!
You absoultely made that kid's Christmas.

Bro, I INSTANTLY thought that was the Managers Wii, it was deliberately hidden so he could take it.

I was kind of hoping the manager hid that Wii for himself, so you ended up selling the one he wanted, adding to the salt in the wound
That is absolutely what that guy was doing. The situation is too suspicious to not be that way.
actually insane to me that he wanted it and was still mad about it despite the lady getting it for her terminally ill child. absolutely ballistic. i can understand maybe wanting to keep something for yourself but if you see someone sobbing for it you march out there with that item and kiss it goodbye, with 0 resentment and attachment. he just sounds like a shithead manager
@@comfortme Oh, we have no idea if he hid it or not, I was just saying it'd be hilarious if he *did* hide it. He got mad because she left her station to look for more Wiis, she didn't follow orders from a higher up, despite, you know, doing her job.

Best thing I EVER told management:
"You are a supervisor. So supervise and get out of my way."
My last manager lost their job after I quit, because they thought they were actually running the business, and everything went to shit.
Faith in humanity restored.
"It was his final Christmas-"
Good lawd.
i am so ruined by customers by knowing that people would try and guilt trip you and manipulate you, so i wanted to later find out that i was right.. but it is soo tear jerking in the end.. the manager did not make a good call on making a big deal because it was morally right and that is better on customer service and employee moral
That was some Queen shit, Pumpkin!! Absolute. Queen!!
I hope that manager dude had a miserable Christmas and has never had a good once since. What an absolute Scrooge to act like that. I hope he looks back on that someday and admits he was wrong.
With these manager types it's never about running a store, it's about exerting control. That thing was probably put aside for him or his buddies.
This story made me cry man
The MOMENT she said that little boy was in THE HOSPITAL I understood EVERYTHING
Nice 👍
Oh goodness, gracious, what a story. Such warmth as to cut my very heart. You're a good person, big cat
As someone who was around 12 when the Wii came out
I can confirm how LONG THE DAMN LINES WERE.
It took TEN STORES ACROSS THREE STATES for a SINGLE one and we were like $100 short
she was crying, you were crying, and now I’m crying AAAAAUUUGGGHHHH
If this guy was my manager, I would have quit ASAP! You did the right thing giving that Wii to that lady!
Damn, this was one of the Best Stories i ever heard.
