See the new raised beds I use: growepic.co/49... Building a raised bed isn't as hard as it seems. I went on a mission to build the simplest and cheapest raised garden beds possible.
It took me about 15 minutes to build, and cost about $40 to make. Of course, you could save more if you used salvaged materials, but I wanted this to be applicable to people that don't have anything lying around the house.
Learning how to build a raised garden bed doesn't have to be difficult, and you don't have to buy expensive $200 kits or beds from a company if you don't want to...just follow this guide!
    Materials:
→ Planter wall blocks (found at Home Depot)
    → 6 cu ft. soil
    → (2) 2' 2x6' boards
    → (2) 6' 2x6' boards
    →Twine
    → 1" nails
    → Seeds!

@@smoothhead8804 Bruh, hahah what's ironic is that your username is "Supreme Gentleman" and your comments reflect everything but that. It seems that you missed the point of the video entirely. The purpose was to show the EASIEST way possible, even for an elder o a child to be able to build this thing without as many tools or hazards involved in the process. And although I agree that another acceptable method could be using deck screws to build a box and create the raised bet using only planks of wood nailed or screwed together, your comment about this "LEGO" method being "gay" just shows how you unconsciously project yourself over that matter and fail to accept that sometimes simpler is better... and that nailing things is not what makes a man be so, but RESPECT. So either behave like a Gentleman or change your username to "Supreme Critic".

That's funny. My squirrels were more interested in assisting with planting in my beds. Specifically planting the pecans from a neighbor's tree in them. I didn't know until I was weeding and pulling out all these sprouting pecans. The rascals would watch me pulling them out and bury new ones when I wasn't watching. It was a never ending war!

pick up Mel Bartholomew's (2nd edition) book at the library or where I got mine was at Goodwill store for $1.99... I use Heat treated Pallet wood now for my square foot gardens...I pay nothing for the wood and just screw it all together with corner supports and make it's depth 6 to 8" depending on the size of the pallet wood--- by the way, the easy way to get this wood is by looking around at shops in your area or on craigslist. I just take my Battery skill saw and cut the wood to size and throw it in the back of my car...makes it easy and inexpensive to say the least... May you have a blessed garden this year.

It's awesome that you knew Mel, I started gardening in the 90s using his book and watching him on public TV. I wouldn't have gardened otherwise.

Nice. I'm building my my moms new garden and this method was right on time. Although I may had some 6 inch 2x4 cleats along the side with a 2×4 screwed to the top of the rails along the sides so it'll give her a lil space to sit while in the garden. Thank you.

You forgot the tarp underneath to block the weeds from growing into the bed. 🤷 And what's the point in a raised bed if it isn't RAISED?

    • @bresgranny1545
      @bresgranny1545 4 роки тому +6

Heidi T. You don't really need weed barrier, though cardboard or even newspaper is worth using. It is raised. It's several inches above the base soil. A raised bed doesn't mean it's like waist high.

If you want a cheaper, but a bit more labor intensive method, you can use 6 ft long 5 1/2" wide cedar fence boards. They're usually around $2.50 each.

    • @concernedamericanpawn6215

jo jo most of the cheap soil is made from recycled human waste from waste water treatment plants mixed with wood chips so pretty much anything that goes down your toilet ends up in this “soil”. Good brand is “happy frog” cost about 20 bucks for 2 cubic feet can be reused many times over ...... plants love it good garden centers carry it.

This is amazing. How have I never heard of these before? We have a couple of raised beds but I need to redo them and this is so perfectly simple and easy. I only hate that I saw this too late for this spring. We already have plants down, but will definitely set this up for summer planting.
