Dear Dr. Asad El Malik and Adrienne,
I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude for the wonderful work that you do and for choosing South Africa as your home. It is truly remarkable that out of all the beautiful countries in the world and on this continent, you have chosen South Africa as your home.
Congratulations on your new home, and may it be a place of comfort, love, and happiness for you and your family. I would also like to extend my best wishes to Aiden(hope I got that right), and remind you that if he ever needs any support, we will always be here for him and your family.
Your decision to make South Africa your home is a testament to your love and commitment to this country. Your videos have been a source of inspiration and joy to many people, both in South Africa and around the world. Through your work, you have given us an inside look into your life and experiences, and we are grateful for the impact that you have made on our lives.
Thank you for the effort that you put into creating high-quality content that is both informative and inspiring. Your passion for your work is evident in every video, and we are always excited to see where your journey takes you next.
Once again, thank you for choosing South Africa as your home and for sharing your journey with us. Your videos have been a source of inspiration and joy to us all, and we cannot wait to see what you have in store for us in the future.
    Sincerely,
    Team TNGA

Good deal Asad and Adrianne for always unapologetically acknowledging your origin to West Africa (Nigeria and Ghana etc., even though the infrastructure and development over there is behind when compared to some other regions.
It is also refreshing to hear your honesty of why you chose SA as your new home. Furthermore, to see you guys hold your heads high and puff your chest out to rep New Orleans and San Antonio, where you were born and raised is admirable.
Keep up being good examples - filled with humility. 💪🏿💯👍🏿

Many African slaves originate in Gabon, Equitorial Guinea, Congo, Angola and northern Mozambique. These are Bantu populations, same linguistic and genetic heritage as Black South Africans albeit Nguni and Sotho/Tswana South Africans have KhoiSan heritage as well. The genetic pool of Black Americans is also Bantu at a sizeable margin.

It’s true more ppl was removed from Angola and congo than any other place (they were the one of the very first groups) but those groups were removed from any history book in USA because when they arrived , they were able to communicate with each other & be United and fight together . Many 🖐🖐 wte ppl were unalived. So they stopped enslaving Central Africans and then started getting ppl from diff places in west Africa , who can’t speak the same language

from a business perspective Doc it doesn't make sense to open 24/hours when customers don't be coming in late at night. Remember now you will have to pay salaries for the staff that will man the shops late in the night. And in South Africa you pay double for late hours shifts. So business wise you weigh in the money you make after hours against the salaries you have to pay after hours and it doesn't add up. hence most shops be closing at 21:00.

Reds and stacey can't even do proper documentation to be in Africa, only if they know the cost of getting proper documentation in America. People pay attorneys up to $25k for immigration services and they are busy embarrassing themselves and the culture they represent. That's how the disrespect begins over there with trying to cut corners, just like you said in this video people already see African Americans as "rich" so they should act it because your dollar is 18 times more for God's sake

@@FranxisKam why come to Asad’s channel to bash other people, who happen to be friends with Asad’s family though?
This is the type of negativity from non-South Africans commenting in our spaces (online, in Ubers etc.) that South Africans hate.
These families are guests to South Africans, not people to be exploited. We tip 10% to 15% here and it is not even compulsory to do so. A dollar is R18 give or take. That is a lot of money to a bottom of the rung low income earner, and the receiver would be grateful for much less.
Please resist the urge to be negative unprovoked, it is not how South Africans treat humans. Unless and until they do something that is bad for the country, they will be treated with ubuntu by South Africans.

Adrian it’s enjoyable to listen to someone who speaks logically. I always tell people going to university really opens your mind to think more broadly and in depth.
I had US military friend visit my home in Zim. He is what would be considered colored in SA or Zim kind of like you even though I know you don’t identify that way. Anyways he met a beautiful girl working at the airport who was and identified as colored. He was disappointed when he called black queen and she said she was colored. I laughed so hard and he asked me did I hear that nonsense. I told it was fine, that,s how it was. It did not mean because she was colored she was better than me or anything just racial identity used by the colonizers.
I have also seen online where some African Americans accuse some people from the DR of denying their black identity simply because they prefer to say they are Dominicans and not black. To them black means African Americans who have a different culture.
I have a US passport but I identify first as African then Zimbabwean and lastly black which is obvious from my complexion so not something I emphasize. What’s important is the mindset not so much what someone calls themselves.
And my thing is so what if someone does not acknowledge their blackness because they are mixed. I could care less.

Americans have an insane work ethic that's facts...I remember working on this start-up with some Americans a few years ago, they would knock off from a full workday in South African time and they would go to the hotel, take a nap and later join the American team for a full day that side. I was like damn, when do you guys sleep..😅😅 The Japanese also work long hours, but their output/productivity does not match American productivity. Europe, South Africa, Australia, etc have strict labour laws that favour workers, and given that working hours are mostly the same, it's hard to have more than one job. It's also a complicated legal process to officially fire someone in South Africa, Europe, Australia etc, Americans can hire and fire in a heartbeat. 😅😅 As always nice video family...

The grind for the average West African is much harder, so they will find it harder to relate to you. The fact that they know less about African American history compared to the average South African is a testament to their lacking education system more than indifference to African Americans, I'd say.
South Africans, apartheid aside, have generally had an easier run of it in terms of economics, availability of goods and services etc. compared to the rest of Africa.

True and that is the paradox of the African American. In the context of the USA we are poor (per capita). But it was once said that a "a rich man is one with knowledge, happiness, and health." If that is the ruler, than many of us are rich. However, is we look at strictly the money, we again see the paradox. We are poor in the US but wealthy on the continent (in relative terms).

Coloured people in SA are so proud of their European heritage. They are quick to tell you that their great grandparent is Irish or Scottish and all that. But its how the system was set up in SA. If you had that percentage of mix in you then you were not a full Negro and that came with benefits. That is why they are too quick to claim their European Heritage. Its a natural response.

South Africans do not stand people who behave like they know it all, it rubs them the wrong way. I think it comes from the fact that we had to put up with the annoying paternalistic attitude of the whites oppresors who treated blacks like children. I think that is why we have some problems with our continental brothers and sisters who shoot from the hip without taking into account the socio-political circumstances and the painful history of the host country. Great content, love the humor as well. One thing about SAns once they warm up to you be rest assured you have a friend and ally for life and when they dont feel you they show it straight away. There is no middle ground.

My theory is that places close early BC the majority of the South African population doesnt have reliable transport.. if we had adequate public transport (perhaps extend the areas Gautrain covers, extend metro bus/rea vaya routes and hours) that served most areas well then I think we could have later closing hours..
PS: hillbrow has some 24hr pharmacies if you're feeling up to it🤣🤣🤣
I might be reaching here, someone correct me if I am. However, I'm not sure what the correlation to drug addiction in the US is due to 'relative' easy access to certain substances but I think the way our pharmacies operate is just fine.. can be a little annoying sometimes but if they feel the need to control access then let em🤷🏾‍♀️

Dr Asad, you are a lecturerer ina South African university. One of the best in Africa. Actually the top 4 universities in Africa are all South African, and Wits is one of them. Yet the same universities are not in the top 100 best universities in the world. Timbuktu is rated as the oldest and best universities the world has ever seen. Alexandria (in Egypt, and an African civilization adopted by the Greeks) is the biggest and most famous library in the history of this planet. Doc, I'm a qualified medical doctor (GP for now) who studied in MEDUNSA (South Africa) and our prescribed and recommended textbooks are American. So since you are privileged to experience both worlds, can you tell us the secret that the West uses to maintain top academic achievement? Or is it a conspiracy? Afterall, we read the same American textbooks and publications.

The level of education in this channel is wow man, Keep it up family. Your analysis of lack of intimate relationship with racism and white supremacy from my fellow African brothers is the reason why SA is labelled xenophobic, we come far as a country fighting white supremacy and seeing other Africans submitting to white supremacy being exploited by same whites is painful to watch as a South African . I'm tired of explaining myself to other Africans, whatever you do please don't return this country to white supremacy. I feel like only African Americans understand this better than everyone.

Yep you couldn't have said it better other africans are desperate to help their families so they'll do just about anything which is noble in a way but it does interfere with what we have fought for as South Africans to be independent and build our own economy to make matters worse we as Africans barely agree on anything and our Nigerian brothers have the work ethic but lack the humility so they fail to see our views on anything but hey even families don't get along how do we expect people from different walks of life to see eye to eye maybe that's just a way of life reason why we have such conversations

African Americans also have experienced racism in the form of slavery, Jim Crow law and institutionalised racism. Thus, they’re always outspoken and intolerant of racism more than some Africans living on the continent. Also, Africans that have lived in North America, Europe and some North African countries are usually aware of race-hate as well. Racism is more prominent in South, Eastern & North Africa compared to West Africa which is hardly nonexistent. Racism IS AND WILL DIE GRADUALLY in Africa because this is a god given continent of people of AFRICAN DESCENT. Your RACE is a primary and natural determinant of where you came from irrespective of where you live in this world. Blessings.

    Your point at 16:15 refers:
On the farms following the seizure of Africans’ land post 1913 there was no consent Asad and Adrienne. Farm workers had very little power or recourse.
Also, for black Maids working for urban based white families, and often living in a room in their backyard , there was no consent when Baas (Afrikaans for boss) came to visit at night. Our numbers were of no help to us, them colonising folks were brutal from day one, and only kind of stopped post ‘94.
The apartheid government took the children away though, so families that had mixed babies had to hide the babies, but I understand from some who are celebrities that it was not always a happy existence for them, being the only mixed child amongst hundreds and thousands of dark skinned people.

It's true about racism in SA and the rest of Africa. The Europian master did their thing remote to west, east and central Africa. But as for us in SA it was our daily driver. For me being coloured were said Hotnot and for us to survive we used to make fun after we got insulted in any way. They forced us to work them rich and they are rich because our ideas. Cos we were never allowed to be someone who are recognised for being great. I like and agree what you are saying about American history, because you know best...😂😂😂

Oh on a note of the grocery stores and restaurants - most people in the service industry can't afford cars (because the minimum wage is so poor), so they rely on public transport which only runs until about 8pm, and some people travel from quite far to get to work everyday, and also, I have had friends that have told me, that need to be locked in their houses by 8pm, because it's not safe at night. So I think that's mostly the reason why they close early, aside from crime.

Aslm alkm! With regards to the meds, they are separated into different categories called schedules. Mostly, you can get light pain meds, cough syrup, vitamins, etc from a grocery shelf. But anti-biotics ( with script only), heavier pain meds and allergy meds need to be supplied by a pharmacist, and tge customer's name and details are taken down because they have components that can be extracted to make illegal drugs.
Cold meds used to be easier to get, but there are more regulations now because of drug abuse.

One thing I admire about the US, is that strong work ethic rooted in Protestanism aka Germans.
I saw that with my aunt, she left South Africa in the late 1960s after graduating at Wits,- on a scholarship to the US. She went for her second masters and PhD at Georgia State University. She worked herself up in academia until she became a full professor of psychology at the University of Delaware State University.
When she returned in the early 90s, she used to tell us, "you cannot survive in America while sleeping and slow". I learned a lot from that lady, my her soul rest in peace.
As for African Americans, the strong work ethic originate with slavery, the likes of Thomas Jerrferson, one of the US presidents who owned a large number of slaves, opined that slaves required "less sleep". A telling that slaves were overworked to build the United States.
