I worked as a transfer driver for tourists (Geneva airport to Chamonix/Megeve/Morzine/Aosta etc.) and treated myself to this at the end of my third season - it's €70, but worth every cent when you're there! The first stage is tame when you look at the cables...but the 2nd and steepest stage is terrifying 😱 Truly a world class feat of engineering!
Well, the construction of the original aerial tram/cable car system had begun in 1949, and was inaugurated in 1955; the current one (system) has existed since (was inaugurated in) 1991. There is a short documentary/video about that (how it was built), but it's in French.
@@jerrynix5206 you're welcome, Jerry! It's a short, ca. 12 minute-long film/video, called "Le fil de l'Aiguille"; it, literally, means "the thread of the needle" (kind of a pun 😃). I checked, and, unfortunately, MONT-BLANC Natural Resort, the user that posted the video, did not add captions/subtitles; I hope you'd enjoy it, though.
Been there on June 2016,amazing experience, this is really the "Top of Europe",so high altitude that my ears were plugged up during descent with the lift, not to be missed in any case if someone is in Chamonix..
Lovely Video! I hiked up the Mer de Glace some years ago to the Aiguille du Midi, and in the same trip hiked up the Grand Mulets Route to the Summit of Mont Blanc. Not too difficult with crampons & ice-axe but you need to be acclimatised with a good "head for heights" on the final arete to the Mt Blanc Summit. You also need navigation skills to avoid crevasses on the Mer de Glace & Boissons Glacier!
This is mindblowing feat of engineering.. both the lift and the structures on top of the peak. The lift has more than 30000 ft of continuous cable. Where did they make it? How did they lift it up? (I know, helicopter, but still..)
Starting in 1909, no helicopters to carry the cables, first with mules on the first section and then on the backs of men. It still holds the record as the highest vertical ascent cable car in the world, from 1,035 to 3,842 m (3,396 to 12,605 ft).
je l'ai fait en 2014 ; si vous avez l'occasion de le faire vous aussi , n'hésitez pas; par contre munissez vous de patience , vous serez 2, 3 à vouloir faire le pas dans le vide😁
you just paid a ticket and get to Aiguille du Midi 3842 m like other million of kids and that's it. Change the title. You didn't even step to Mont-Blanc
I don't like to see people building on those beautiful mountains. And especially for it to be so easy to get up there with a lift. It really takes a way a lot of the grandeur and general awe. :(
I think its okay as long as were not doing it on every mountain. The acces was still very limited, unless you had hiking shoes you could go down. But the view up there is a very special experience. Especially because you're above the clouds.
Amazing. Breathtaking. And I never use that fucking word. Please stop moving 2feet a day as I hear you are. Your a total babe. Nevermind what they say. Stay Black Princess. 😘❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Indeed was scary AF...
ahh.... remember skiing down from the top down to Chamonix here in 1990 with off-pist guides
I can't imagine how hard this was to build, it's amazing!

@@mariusmatei2946 wonder If it has subtitles? I'll watch it regardless though, thanks Marius!

@@mariusmatei2946 oh well I'm sure the film is awesome even if I can't understand a word they say ha-ha, thanks bud!
@@jerrynix5206 you're very welcome! it's, mostly, archival footage of the construction of the original aerial tram/cable car system.
Great video, this place is amazing. I have just been last week. Thanks for sharing
Wow Breathtaking Views , What a Natural Beauty 🤩
I've been there and it was awesome. It was 85 degrees in the valley and 20 degrees up on Mount Blanc.
I Was there some years ago.Have never seen a more beautiful place than Chamonix.

great view. I visited this place some years ago, great place
Stunning. Went when I was a kid. Didn’t dare go up there tho! In fact I think we only saw it through the clouds once!
Thanks for the upload

It's very beautiful place to visit.. I was there on 24th March 2019. Weather was very cold.
Do you feel any oxygen deprivation when you are up there?

Хороший прикол. Купил билет на подъемник, покатался на нем до высоты 3800 - и ты уже крутой альпинист 😂
Good job bro 👊😎
Amazing place.
Thanks 👍

Not sure I’d call something that big with high rises a ‘village’.

How much would a trip there cost?
Might help if we knew where from..
About 70 Euro, two weeks ago

Il sottofondo musicale abbastanza deprimente
why industrialize the mountains so? the next queue for maternhorn or mont blanc? if someone can't leave alone let them watch the pictures!
It's pretty but what is the point? To be on top of a mountain? Humans are always trying to master nature.
Mount Thor in Canada is more impressive . and Trollwall in Norway.
It’s awful
I'm trying to see if something bad happened here. The music is funereal so I don't know.
