It’s crazy to see how popular the sp scene has gotten in the last couple years! I’m definitely no stranger to using mfx 12, but this video is still great! Giving away gems fr
I never even tried that effect. It’s great . Roland needs to start sponsoring you . I love you dont name your videos effects every producer should know or something that gets your expectations up . You play it smart and humble and have super useful tips. SP vids for president in 2024. You can use my birth certificate.
man nice video, for the mixing i suggest u to create a 2 bars loop with pattern mode so while the beat is playing u can adjust the level of each pad while u already listen to the compressed volume🌵 I do like this somethimes, sometimes i add mfx 12 only to the melodies and the kick pad so it gives a sidechain fx with the kick! thx for your videos man keep going!
Peace. The attack of the compression can be raised to a higher value in order to preserve the drum transient. It took me awhile to get this and it’s not something one can fiddle around and try out with trial and error because while you may get something that sounds good you might be missing the point...and then you have to overcompensate with the sustain and make up gain...so in the context of SP land...the attack is basically how quickly does the compressor react once the threshold is passed. The compressor’s ratio then is what smushes the signal down and the sustain is how long before the compressor let’s go and returns to its threshold not triggering the compression. Thanks for your vidz
The best channel for sp content u helped me so much while learning this machine. Its my first piece of hardware and having so much fun because of ur vids❤
An awesome tip I’ve learned for keeping drum samples clean is to pull the start all the way back to 0 then bring up to 30 once and then your sample will be the correct length.
Nice videos mate. Can you record a pattern with that compressor effect on while playing the samples? and then mess around that pattern with another effect? I cannot seem to find if that's possible with the SP 404
You can’t record fx to a pattern you can only apply it to the pads. If you want to layer them you would have to resample all the pads with the fx on and then lay the other fx on top etc. Very tedious!
Great video! Is it normal to get hiss clicks noise etc at the end of a sample when using the compressor? I hit a a single kick pad there’s a noisy tail at the end which I can’t pin point the source of
I imagine it’s because your compressor is flattening the sound, Therefore any feedback or artefacts on the audio will get levelled up and be more prominent. That’s my guess without actually being able to see and hear so hope that helps. It’s difficult with the sp as you tend to get circuit noise and static when resampling! Thanks for watching
Hey man, great video! How do you approach recording compressed tracks using resample? Do you apply mfx12 to everything and build up layer by layer? Thanks bro!
Yeah you can do that man. Just resample and use a bit of mfx to give it a bit more pump. Like i mentioned here though use it sparingly for best results!
Really depends on the sample and the drum sounds. It’s personal preference too. I like quite quiet hats and a heavy kick and snare. You just gotta keep experimenting. Use your favourite beat makers as a guide too!
Hi, this means the bank is protected. The default card that comes with it is protected, read only. You can change it, have a look in the manual for the steps under 'about the protect function'.
The compressor on the SX is kind of ridiculously over the top in most cases. It's cool as a deliberate effect but for gentle, more transparent compression... it's just not for that.
interesting - not tried all the sounds quiet but I usually keep the samples a lot quieter than the drums - i find that tends to give a good sound. Will try this though thanks!
I’m restricted to whatever Shopify allows. I do have PayPal at the checkout though so you should be fine using that if you have it. I imagine you can pay in your own currency though?
Whats happening with Paypal? I accept payments through that all the time so not sure why that wouldn't work. Unless you can use a card as an alternative or get paypal to work there isn't much else I can do 😢
Yeah I use compression a lot less since making this video. Used to just slap it on everything but figured out its more important to get the levels right in the first place
the level has nothing to do with the “amount” of compression. it’s literally a volume dial. when you use the sp’s compressor there’s no way not to use “full compression”
If you turn the Effect Limit on by using Func 8, the attack button becomes a release button.
This is something a lot people don't know.
ah thank you so much
Yeah I only worked this out recently myself. Really useful, thanks!
THANK YOU

what attack button do you mean exactly my G?

haha much appreciated man, yeah I try to keep away from the clickbait as much as possible! Thanks a lot for the comment 🙏

Glad your back. Been watching your vids since way before I even got my sp404sx

Yo man thanks for the info. Appreciate it!
some real good knowledge in there man, well put together, samples are really dope too
Appreciate man, thanks for watching again! :)

I needed this today bro!! Thanks for uploading.

Nice man I’ll have to try that
Always love your tutorials bro, and it's very helpful for me trying to learn my SP-404A!🙏🏾✊🏾
Glad to hear that man appreciate it! Thanks for all the watches!
So glad your back!!!
appreciate that man! Thanks for watching
Your tutorials are precious. I'm trying to learn something more but I'm not sure to understand this machine. Thanks
Keep going man it will start to make sense the more you practice ✨
Love the plants bro
Very Nice vid . I am exploring this machine 👌
Nice one man, thanks for watching. Hope it was useful
welcome back g! missed you homie
Thanks man. Glad to be back! Thanks for watching
The 🐐 is back!
My guy! 🙏
Nice one, thank you!
No problem!
the level parameter (far right knob) adjusts the output volume of the compressor. it doesn't control the level of compression
Nice one man, appreciate the knowledge!

I just got an sx and when I try to record samples into it it says “prt” and does nothing. What does that mean??
Have you formatted the SD card?

Yeah best to just stick to the DAW if you have the option
i had deja vu around 5:40
Mfx12 works best when your sounds are at a low volume
